my stay was booked from august 16-20, so that means im still here. its 5:45am and i felt absolutely compelled to write this right now because i have been awake since about 4am due to beeping (like the sound of a truck reversing). im in the beachside tower facing volcano bay and this is now the second night that this has occurred. and it goes on for at least an hour. what are you doing at 4am that you can not let your guests sleep? surely i am not the only one that is being kept awake by this. otherwise, the resort isnt bad. two decent sized pools on either end which my son thoroughly enjoyed. we brought our own pool floats which i recommend (theyll inflate them free of charge). food isnt anything to write home about. we mostly dined at citywalk, however, one morning we had breakfast at the diner. there was no seasoning to anything, i mean anything. the plus here is the early access and quick transportation to the parks (definitely a plus) cant say id return. I went to universal to see the Harry Potter stuff because I was not able to get there when I was at Disney in June. I spent 4 days in And oitnof Harry Potter World (that is split between Slands of Adventure and Univeersal Studios). It is connected by the Hogwarts Express train, that runs unique rides in each direction. Here's the catch, to see Harry Potter world and to use the Hogwarts Express, you have to buy a multi pack ticket which can be very expensive. If you stay in a universal hotel, the park passes are MUCH MUCH cheaper. Beware of universal studios -- it is not Disney, and there is a marked lack of "magic" in the park even though must guests are in the Wizarding world of Harry Potter. This is a for profit company, and they are not afraid to show it. Take for example, the Harry Potter non-alcoholic drink called Butterbeer. IT is cream soda with whipped cream on it. And a frozen butterbeer is a slushy made with cream soda. For each 12 ounce glass, you will be laying out $8.00 with tax. There is almost nothing else to drink in Hardy Potter world, so over the course of 4 days, I laid out $120 for soft drinks of butterbeer. Additionally. Food in DIagon Alley side of Harry Potter world is better than the islands of adventure side, but beware because the temperature in the restaurants are so discomfortably cold, you may not be able to wait to get your food without walking out because it if too cold. (I did that twice during my stay and it annoyed the hell out of me.). Cabana Bay is one of the older Universal resorts. It is OK, and the food court is nothing compared to Disney -- how many hamburgers and pizzas can you possibly eat?!? There is a new property being built next door to cabana bay. The good thing about the resort is that it is very close to the City Walk entrance to the parks, and right next door to the new water park, Volcano Bay. It is a little tough to get around in the pool area To get around the parks, it is recommended to download the universal apps that have maps that show where you are on the map at any time. It is much easier than paper maps. Be prepared to go through the magnetometer each time you enter city walk. My plan was to spend the trip primarily in Harry Potter areas. Four days was ideal time to be able to see and do everything. Housekeeping can be a little slow in making up your room in busy times. Collapse

We booked a courtyard Family Suite Standard room at the Cabana bay beach resort. It wasn't a suite. It was a bed room with 2 double beds, a bathroom with sink, separate sink & vanity mirror & separate WC. There was also a room with a fridge, a breakfast bar & a sofa bed. It was adequate for 1 adult & 3 teenagers. Hotel Check in on arrival was slow, whilst I understand the need for customer service - a bit less chat would be better & would speed things up. Our towels were changed every day, our room was cleaned daily. Can't complain about the cleaning service. The hotel has several shops, a diner with a selection of food options, plus take out. There are also a couple of bars & bowling. The swimming pool area is large but always busy. My kids really enjoyed the lazy river, however you are expected to buy a rubber ring, you cannot hire them. The hotel rooms are in different buildings around the pools. In the evening they show films in the swimming pool. The hotel offers free bus transfers to the Universal parks which is great. The hotel is also within walking distance of the parks (15 mins). You can get early access to the parks from the hotel but at the Islands of adventure we arrived just after 8am & had to queue until 9am to get in. The reason why Ive given the hotel an poor rating, is that my teenage daughter was racially abused by a member of staff in the hotel Diner. She was very upset & complained to management, but she didn't get an apology only the offer of a free Starbucks. Disgraceful. In the UK, if a member of hotel staff racially abused a guest, the least they could expect would be a verbal warning, clearly in the Cabana bay it's acceptable to fob guests off with the offer of a $2 Starbucks. Racism obviously isn't an issue for them. Unacceptable. Collapse
Pretty great for the $

We knew we would be spending a lot of time at the theme parks but this place provided everything we needed. Arrived around 1. The check in person took our information and told us that if we waited just a little while longer we could receive a better pool view room. No problem. We were texted around 20 mins later telling us that our room was ready. We were in the continental building. Easy access to the "diner" and the pool near the lazy river. Also pretty close to where the transportation to park buses are. I would defiantly request this building again if we came again. The room was cute and colorful. My only complaint about the room was more about the windows on the outside were very dirty. I wish there was a little balcony also. Would be nice to sit outside. My son got very sick and I left the theme park so he could go rest. He slept for many hours in the middle of the day and I just wish I could have sat out to get air. Also, no HBO! Seriously sad to not be able to watch Game of Thrones this Sunday! It's a large resort. We like having accessibility to both pool areas. You have to go walking through the lobby to get over to the other area. Kind of annoying and takes a long time. Wish there was a way to get back and forth without going indoors. Building seemed a little worn down outside. Again... looking up at all the dirty windows from the pool area was a little bit of a let down. Pool area was fun. Lazy river was cute. Nothing fantastic. We brought floats with us that you can have filled with air down near the pool. Prices of the floats you can buy there are pretty fair. People hold chairs all day with towels and never come back. Same old story at most resorts. Food was average. Nothing great nothing terrible. Prices were average for hotel food. Everything is very self service. I wish there were more options to get waiter service. When I'm on vacation I like to relax and that's hard to do when you have to deal with ordering and picking up at the window for a family of four. Overall, the staff was very pleasant and I think this place is a bargain for location and amenities! Collapse
