After spending hours online reading reviews of hotels in NYC, we finally decided to choose the TRYP and we could not be more pleased with our experience. We arrived very early and staff graciously accommodated our request for two rooms close together and also offered to store our suitcases until check-in time. The lobby itself is rather small and cozy, but very welcoming and inviting. Our family style room was absolutely perfect for our family of five. It had two queen size beds in one half and bunk beds/dressers (12 drawers, I believe)/desk/couch in the other half. We read many reviews that said this property was noisy. However, we heard hardly any noise from outside the building (A/C fan does turn off to be really quiet too) and I am a very light sleeper. The only occasional noise we heard were other doors on our floor being closed and the housekeeper's rather noisy cart. The location of this hotel is optimal. The Metro is located a half block down the street and a police station is right next door. We have stayed in the middle of Times Square before and we much preferred the TRYP's location a few blocks away from all of the commotion. There are several chain restaurants (Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Chipotle, Five Guys, McDonald's) and local establishments within a block. You really couldn't ask for more from a hotel in the city. We would ABSOLUTELY stay here again! Collapse

My family recently stayed at Tryp New York by Wyndam. We arrived 4 hours before check-in and had been told previously that we could check-in, if the room was ready. The gentleman we encountered initially was very nice. He checked to see if the room was ready and said it was. However, he then indicated that he made a mistake and room was not ready. Therefore, he offered to store our luggage and told us to check back around 1 pm. So, we headed to do some sightseeing. We called to check the status of the room around 2:30 pm. At that time, we were again told the room was ready. So, booked "Lyft" to take us back as my 70 year old mother was tired. A few minutes later, we received a call saying that a mistake had been made again and the room wouldn't be ready until 3 pm. Well, regular check-in is at 3. So, I would expect the room to be ready at 3. We got back to the hotel around 3:30 pm. I walked up to the lady at the counter and informed her we were checking in. I stood at the counter for at least another 20 minutes while she fiddled around. She never provided any update as to what was taking so long. Finally, she left the counter and came back. She informed me that the room was not showing as released so she had to go check the room herself. She told me that she checked the room and it was perfect. So, after about 30 minutes of standing there, we finally got checked in. We went into the room and found the shower curtain was missing, additional towels were needed, there was no hand soap, towels were still hanging in the closet from previous guest, cups with no plastic were on sink, we couldn't find pillows for the bunk, etc...So, we notified the front desk. A guy came to room to bring us the items needed. He had to make several trips to bring all the items. He stated that the room should not have been released yet as housekeeping was still working on it. So, the room wasn't PERFECT as had been previously indicated. The next day we left the room early and was gone for 10 hours. We came back, only to find our room had not even been serviced that day. The lady at the desk told us that housekeeping indicated we had a "Do not disturb" sign on our door. This was a lie as we did not place a sign on the door. In addition, we left three notes in the room for them to change the sheets on the beds. The person at the desk, who indicated she was the manager, was very unapologetic and displayed a non-shulant attitude. She told us told housekeeping was gone for the day. So, we couldn't get service. We were brought towels and sheets. However, we had to change the sheets ourselves. Then, we realized the trash was overflowing, plus we wanted the dirty towels to be removed. The guy who brought the towels and sheets told us to place the trash and towels outside the door. He picked up those items, but didn't bring any trash liners. We also didn't have a shower mat and everyone wanted to shower. So, I went to the front and spoke to the manager again about these items. She claimed someone would bring the items, but after over 30 minutes, nobody came. So, we had to call back again to get these items. Finally, someone brought them. We ended up running out of tissue as well. Luckily, it was the next morning and housekeeping was in the hall. Also, the next night, we overheard another customer complaining that her room had not been serviced as well. So, this appears to be a pattern. We have never received such poor service before. The hotel has potential, but the service needs to improved greatly. If this is the type of service Wyndam provides, I will definitely continue to stay at Hilton and Hyatt in the future. Collapse
