I asked for a view of New York New York. Was charged an extra $25 per night for that view. Arrived late at night and had a view of the side of MGM and a banner of David Copperfield. I addressed the issue the next morning. I had called 3x before arriving to make sure I had the room I wanted. Each time I was assured I did. I was told we could change rooms but it would be after 2pm before the new room would be clean. The person was very courteous and said that we could check out the room before we moved. Someone would call us as soon as it was clean. We waited all day. No one called. At about 5:30pm I went to the front desk. They did have a new room for us to look at. The view wasn't much better. I let them know that we would just stay where we were, but I wanted the $25 "view" charge removed. They said they would. I ended up talking to 4 different people about this. At one point I was told to talk to Ivory, which I did. I got online and made a reservation across the street at Excalibur. The view wasn't any better but the price sure was! When I checked out on the second morning from Tropicana, the lady at the desk asked if I would like to speak to the manager. I said I thought that was Ivory but she said no. I let her know that I had already made reservations at Excalibur. Everyone was very pleasant but they didn't take care of my issue. They just kept saying I shouldn't have been told I would have a view of NYNY. The next 3 nights at Excalibur was great and we wished we would have booked all 5 nights there. Collapse

The Tropicana is all about quantity then world class quality. But at an room price I paid 95 usd it was good for the cost. Being a diamond member doesn’t get u much. An extra 13 usd house credit. I do like the bungalows. They have their own balcony, so fresh air . The rooms are big and simple. The location is great. From inside the garden / pool area you can’t see or hear the strip. The savor breakfast on the deck is a real chill place. All in all. A good spot that does the basics very well . No issue cheap and cheerful. Collapse

We booked in here for 8 days for a soul music week / holiday and I would never go back . Room cleaning was missed on 3 of those days , we had to ask For clean towels and water ( water was provided 1 bottle each per day ) the smallest water bottle I have ever seen ! Cleaning throughout the hotel was not up to standard, there was a tissue next to the elevator that was there the whole time Our room smelt damp and was dull & tired looking ( we paid extra for a bungalow, it was not worth it ! When we where checking in they tried to say that we hadn't paid for our room , which we had and got receipts to prove it ! Not a nice experience at all . Will not go back . Collapse

When Tropicana refurbished several years ago, it had just the right focus, creating a hip Mad Men vibe, a '50s Rat Pack retreat. But, as you get from other reviews, there are serious problems. One is a major structural problem not easily addressed. Some of the ceilings are too low, giving the claustrophobic feel you get in Circus Circus and other dated hotels. The other problem is maintenance. The main Tropicana sign on the hotel is peeling badly. I don't care what kinda financial problems you're having. When the details that most affect brand perception look dog eared, you might as well cash it in and get out. Similarly, the giant poster ad for the Irvine Public House is peeling badly. (And, sadly, that lack of attention to detail also played out in the food at the Public House.) But here's the thing. I'm a critic. If you have a strong filter - the kind you need to enjoy Vegas - you can focus onto some nice reasons to stay here. The price is OK. The rooms are clean and the decor is fine, and even though the impressionist art from New Orleans (copied in every room) might not fit the Mad Man theme, it's attractive. The casino looks like just about every other casino. Fine. (But I did have exceptional service from the Texas Hold 'Em dealer, and I'm somebody who lost!) The check-in area, although lacking the showy wow of the Luxor, is stylish with a retro look, cool wavy textured wall treatments and clever lighting. The pool was good. Although I wish that the music weren't so loud, the waterfalls and lush landscaping are above average. I wish the entire pool complex was open, but early in the season they're trying to save money. The hot tub was just hot enough, with good jets. And one of the pools had a waterfall that provides a splendid water massage. Overall, I'd say that with the ceiling problem, it may be unlikely that the Tropicana will every live up to its full potential. And with the management's lackadaisical attitude about important branding signifiers, it's easy to get the impression that folks here just don't give a damn. Still, if you want solid rooms, a solid pool, a bit of style and gambling, you can do worse. Collapse
