We got a great rate for a three night stay. The location is prime. However, this is an old property and it shows. The rooms are spacious but worn down. There are only a few choices for food and most are expensive. They have a small food court which is ok but service is very slow. Speaking of slow, we tried to get lunch at the Beach Restaurant, we were seated and then waited at least 10 minutes for our drink order to be taken and then we had to ask two different people to get our waisted who still didn't show up. So after waiting a good 25 minutes we left. Terrible service!! The pool was big enough and seats were available however there were too many seats reserved for a fee. They don't even open up the entire pool for some days - disappointing for sure. We will not stay here again - old is not charming. The cons out weigh the pros for sure!! Collapse
An old-timer that still retains much of its old-world charm

The Tropicana is one of the few remaining old-time hotel/casinos, dating back to the 50s; this is precisely why we chose it one our one-night stay in Vegas. By and large, it lived up to expectations: a little grand here, a little daggy there, and actually provided good value: we had booked a suite and the room - I should say rooms - were enormous, well equipped, stylishly decorated, and immaculately clean. Sleep quality was excellent. Other pluses include the fact that the Tropicana's location makes it relatively easy to get to from the airport, and it provides free undercover parking which is handy if you, like us, picked by a rental car from McCarren. The few cons were nothing to get too excited about. The Tropicana does make its pool area accessible not just to guests but also to locals; I presume to encourage patronage, especially of the casino. This might explain a few of the slightly unsavory characters that we saw there, or they could simply have been guests, or we may have simply been unlucky... Walking through hotel reception means skirting the gaming floor, and there's the ever-present odour from smokers; not that the Tropicana is alone here and I'm guessing all of the LV casinos allow smoking so as to avoid alienating this sort of clientele. The buildings do look a little dated now, compared to the latest glass and aluminum structures, but the Tropicana does retain a good measure of old-world charm. From what I saw, they seem to be keeping up with maintenance, and certainly, our room (and the floor) looked in first-class condition. It may now longer be the most fashionable location, and being across from the Excalibur is hardly a recommendation, but unless you're a serious high-roller I'm not sure that sort of issue matters a lot. The delights of Vegas - such as they are - are all just a cab ride away. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants so cannot really comment on those, but I'm guessing that they would probably be better than acceptable. The free Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. The acid test (that is, would I return): possibly. Certainly, the room was excellent and all the staff that we interacted with were extremely courteous, professional, and helpful. The location is handy. This is probably closer to a 4.5/5 than 4.0 experience. Collapse

While my last review on excellent customer service in 2016 still stands, we visited in February and the pool was not open. We now went in June and the pool was open. First of all the pool is only open from 10-7. By 10am it was almost 100 degrees already. In the evening it was 110 and swimming at 9pm would have been nice. My advice would be open 8-10. The doors to the pool are locked. You feel like the poor people on the Titanic. The young people running the pool area then let you in, check your purses and bags, check your room key before giving you a towel, then will allow you to pick a chair. You cannot under any circumstances move the chair to a shadier spot or you will be reprimanded and called out of the pool by the life guard to move your chair back to its original spot. Humiliating. When I moved my chair to the grassy area they put the sprinklers on and all of my belongings got wet including my tablet. The young kids laughed and laughed. To avoid further humiliation I left the pool area. I guess that's the idea to get the people back to the casino. I was very disappointed with this pool experience, but everything else was fine. I stayed at this hotel for the first time due to a promotional offer. I stayed here for three nights complimentary. We had two complimentary breakfast buffets, which was pretty good. It had a rather okay selection of foods, but compared to others I've experienced there has been a better selection of foods. The hotel is situated on the far end of the strip right across from MGM and directly next door to Excalibur and New York, New York hotels. They do offer a sky tram between New York, New York, Excalibur, The Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. It was free and really came in handy if you didn't want to walk in the hot sun or take a Lyft or Uber. The Tropicana only offered a comedy show, there are about three towers, a total of three restaurants, gift shops and tons of slot machines to play on. The swimming pool closes at 10pm, which in my opinion was way too early! The rooms slept pretty comfortable with a fridge, but no microwave. The front desk staff was nice except for one lady with an accent who I thought was kind of rude when I attempted to ask questions about my stay. Overall, the hotel was renovated a couple of years ago, but if I'm ever back in Vegas I probably will stay somewhere else. Collapse
