When I checked in, I highlighted to reception that my room had a strong cigarette smoke smell (I always book a non-smoking room because my daughter and I both have nose allergies). They promised to send someone to clean the air in the room, and I brought my family out for lunch so that housekeeping could do their work. When I returned 2 hours later, the problem was not solved. It did not even smell like somebody had tried to so something at all. No fragrance, no improvement in air quality, no sight of an air purifier etc. I brought the matter up again, and was promised housekeeping would be sent again to try to do something. I brought the family for a swim so the room could be vacated yet again for housekeeping to do their work. After the swim, the problem persisted. I was very suspicious by this time that nobody had tried to do something at all. Again I smelled no difference at all - the air quality in the room was still as terrible. I rang guest services and was given the same response. I had to vacate the room for the third time, dragging two cranky kids who had missed their afternoon naps out for a walk and dinner. On this third time, I left a ball of paper behind the door such that if housekeeping had entered the room to attempt to do something about the problem, the paper ball would have been swept aside by the opening door. True to my suspicion, when I returned after dinner, the object was still found in its original position, proving that no attempt had been made to clean up the air in the room despite repeated promises to do so. I went down to reception again to make the same complaint for the fourth time. It was already late. My 3-year-old toddler and 6-month-old infant had both missed their afternoon naps because of the problem, and they were both totally cranky because they were obviously tired, it was their bedtime, and they did not have a proper place to sleep in. Anybody who is a parent would understand why my wife and I were ready to pack up and go home by this time. Finally, we were offered a new room. We had to pack up, wait for assistance with our luggage, wait for the baby cot to be set up in the new room, wait for towels to be sent so the kids could take their shower, and by the time they were ready for bed, it was more than an hour past the children's bedtime and they were inconsolable and unable to go to sleep. We had to deal with 2 kids who had totally lost their wits and who finally settled into fitful sleep only at midnight. Definitely not our idea of a relaxing and restful staycation when my wife and I were both fatigued, frustrated, and yet to have a chance to shower past midnight on Saturday - after an exhausting week at the office. We paid good money for a room in the hotel to spend our weekend in, and ended up being forced to spend more time in the adjacent mall than in our room. Did I also mention the toilet bowl was soiled when we first entered the room? But that was a small problem in the bigger scheme of things. Worth a bigger mention in other hotels, but maybe not in this one. Being incompetent is one thing. Incompetence at least implies people have attempted to do something, but they failed. But when somebody in reception/call centre/housekeeping is obviously lacking in integrity by repeatedly lying to us about trying to solve a problem that could have serious implications on my family's health and safety, I think this is abhorrent. Having been a Shangri-la member for several years, I have come to expect that when I stay in any property that belongs to the Group, my family's health, safety, and security would be taken care of. On this occasion, I have learned that my assumption might have to be re-examined. If there was any positive from this episode, it was that when there was an error on my bill at check-out, I took things well within my stride, and did not feel any tinge of disappointment. Just get it out of the way, and leave the place. Home never felt sweeter. Collapse

We stayed at Hotel Jen Tanglin for one night and couldn't fault our stay. We arrived early morning and as expected too early to check in to our room, however the staff happily stored our bags whilst we took ourselves off to explore the Botanic Gardens nearby (check these out if you're staying they were spectacular!). The staff were perfectly polite and friendly but not quite as exceptional as others we encountered on out trip. The hotel is playfully designed and styled but still manages to feel like a much more expensive establishment. Our room was well sized and decorated, the bathroom could have done with a few of the seals replacing in a couple of places but on the whole I was pleased with the cleanliness and the bed was so comfy I didn't want to get out of it! Breakfast was very reasonably priced for Singapore and offered a great selection both in size and quality. Collapse

The hotel is lovely at the quiet close area 10 min walk from Orchard Road. Really nice pool area. Comfy beds, not too soft, decent gym. There is a shopping are in the hotel building, and a supermarket at the basement. Most staff are very friendly. However I had a little problem at reception and found the receptionist unwilling to help. Maybe she was at the end of her shift. The hotel is quiet and relaxing. Collapse

A long overdue review. Both my hub n me stayed there with our 2 kids in the Executive Suite. Room is spacious n clean. Our kids enjoyed chilling at the sofabed n the close proximity to Botanical Gardens. Since it was post Xmas period, we could walk from one end of orchard to the other admiring the xmas lighting along the way. Breskfast spread was good. Do try the Ah Hoi's Kitchen for the dinner. Serves pretty good food. We will be back in may to celebrate my dad's birthday. Hopefully it will b an awesome stay. Collapse
