I stayed at the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre hotel this past week. The hotel was okay in terms of quality. I found it very price for the type of property it is. The event I was attending was right at this hotel, so it made sense to stay at this hotel. With that being said though, if I was looking for a nice place downtown Toronto, you don't have to spend more or go very far to get a good hotel. There are a lot of hotels downtown Toronto in the $600-800 range and they are nicer then this place. A couple of things to note: 1) I had asked for a hotel room up high, but the lady checking me in said that was not possible. It wasn't possible because she didn't want me to get what I wanted. I say this because once I got to my room on a lower floor, there was maintenance issue, so they had to put me in a different room. They put me on the top floor or second from the top. The second front desk agent had no problem meeting my request. 2) Don't think you are going to get a room with any sort of a view. The front desk agents have it right when they say "the hotel is old and everyone has built up all around it. All the buildings around it are tall and you can't see anything." So don't stay at this hotel if you want a nice view of downtown Toronto. 3) Food is expensive. I got charged $12.43 for a scoop and a half of ice cream. No exaggeration. I did have access to the Executive's Lounge which was a help because any of the food or drinks in there were free. I took full use of that. There was alcoholic drinks in there as well - although I didn't drink it. It was nice to be able to go down and get a bottle or can of whatever you wanted to drink - it was well stocked. 4) The breakfast in the morning (included with my room) was great. I'm serious - the breakfast bar had a lot of hot, quality food. I'm being completely honest when I say I ate the BEST scrambled eggs I've ever had in my life (not exaggerating). Breakfast was amazing and the guy working there said he would have one of the lady's make me omelet if I wanted one - he said "she makes the best omelet in Toronto." I didn't take him up on that offer, but I have no doubt he would be right. 5) My room was very clean - and I always check things out with a fine-tooth comb when I check in. Bed, sheets, carpet, bathroom, sinks, desk, TV area - everything EXTREMELY CLEAN. 6) I had no issues with my second room. The first room has some issues, but that was easily solved when they moved me. 7) They don't have enough front desk people working at any part of the day. I easily waited 5x minutes to check-in and probably 10x+ minutes to check-out. 8) They wouldn't allow me to park my own car. They claimed they have renovations going on, however I learn the elevator wasn't working (real issue). So they forced everyone to have their car valet parked. I don't like that because it costs more and I don't like other people driving my car - just don't. They did offer a $14 discount down from $50 to valet park my car. So $36. They fight for that and don't want to give it to you for that, but event I was with was able to manage a discount. Even with the discount card, they found it hard to give me that discount (didn't know how to apply it). Kinda frustrating. Just give the discount away and be done with it! 9) Staff was pretty friendly overall. Front desk staff not bad. Couple be improved a bit in my mind. Restaurant staff was friend and helpful. 10) The lounge at night was *NOT* well stocked with food. There was really nothing to eat to be honest beside some room-temp cheese cake win which only two slices were taken. Didn't look great. They really dropped the ball on this one. They were well stocked with drinks though. Due to the lack of food - it would not be worth the paid upgrade. If it's free, okay, but I wouldn't have paid for that. If they had charged me extra for Executive Lounge access, I would have been asking for a refund - no joke. 11) Speaking of Executive Lounge access... The morning breakfast was great as I said. I do like how they have multiple TVs in different areas of the lounge. This means you have CNN on, on one TV, CBC on another, BBC on another and NBC on another. This is great because everyone can watch (and hear) what they want to watch. People basically took their food and sat at the TV they wanted to watch. Makes complete sense and I thought it was great. Often in hotels like this they turn all of the TVs onto the same channel. It was nice to have some variety. Anyways, to conclude this business hotel wasn't bad. If you are staying downtown and can stay at a fancier place - I would - since you are paying the same amount. This property wasn't bad. Nothing to really complain about, but as I said, for the value, there is nicer places. They have definitely kept this hotel up over the years, but I think it's time they built a new hotel in it's place - taller and bigger - just my two cents. Collapse

Central location to the downtown area, 10 minute walk from the financial district and 15 minute walk to the convention centre. Good service here, exec lounge is functional but not the nicest I've seen in a Marriott as it would be better on the top floor with a view. Rooms are well equipped and the wifi was good throughout. Very Good rating as opposed to anything higher driven by nothing bad but nothing unremarkable. Collapse

Just had an overnight at this Marriott. Very easy to drive to and fast and efficient valet parking. Quick check in and pleasant staff. Our room was clean, comfortable and had a great bed. Also had a mini fridge in our room which was handy. We found all facilities including the fitness centre, swimming pool, and lobby very nice to use. This hotel is close to everything so we walked everywhere. Unlike other hotels we could leave our car in the parking lot while we went out to explore shops and eat lunch, even after checkout. This has become our new choice for a downtown hotel when in Toronto. Collapse
