The location is great for us - short walk from train/bus stations, and out of the way of all the tourist hoards. 5 mins walk to the San Basilio vaporetto stop which can get you anywhere easily (figured out the vapo time tables are integrated into the google maps app pretty nicely, so just input stop to stop for directions and it will show you options for vapo locations and times). Honestly even if you want to spend your time around San Marco or Rialto (why, though, they're so crowded), and don't want to buy the vapo pass the walking time is still sub-20 minutes. The hotel is great - 4th century house (seriously!) that has been re-done very nicely but not so much that it lost the charm of the original? everything worked and it was very clean! We had a top floor quad room (traveling with 2 early teen kids) which had a queen bed that was the best bed we slept on out of the 4 hotels we stayed in across Italy, and a fold-out sofa bed, which was made for us before we arrived, so it was just another bed for us, and there was still plenty of room around it, and in the space between the door and the bathroom which had an easy-chair and a side-table and a couple desks to put luggage atop. Wifi worked well. They ask you to leave your key at the desk when you leave for the day since it's staffed 24/7 and they open the door for you when you approach (they remembered our names, too!) I found it odd at first that we leave they key, but was nice not having to carry it around and no risk of losing it! Breakfast was 7-10 daily and pretty typical breads/croissants/muffins (we just don't eat that much bread so we were longing for scrambled eggs our whole trip), but they did have sliced ham and cheese so I could get some protein, as well as cereals and 3 juice options and milk. And they'll make you espresso based coffees as well as a small pitcher of cafe americana if you like, after I realized I needed more coffee than I was getting in just an espresso or cappuccino. Staff was very friendly and spoke english quite well, but were very gentle with us when we tried to use our Italian and goobered it up routinely :) Wished all our hotels this trip were this nice and this affordable! (PS: saw a review about the hard pillows, but we didn't have that issue. I'm confident they would swap out pillows for softer ones if asked, since I know they have softer ones.) Collapse

We only stayed here two nights on our 2 month European excursion, but what a wonderful impression in such a short time!! We loved the location, the Dorsoduro neighborhood. Close enough to the tourist zone to check it out easily, far enough away to escape it just as easily! So many local eateries nearby!! The hosts were perfectly warm and inviting, especially Claudia, who's charming personality reminded us of what being a true Venetian is all about. Wander the amazingly quiet streets early in the morning, or late in the evening for a little taste of what a beautiful and magical place Dorsoduro is. We stayed in an apartment across the canal from the main hotel building and it was perfect!! Oh, and the included continental breakfast is delizioso!! Plus it saves you about 10-15 Euros per person/per day. I can't recommend this quaint hotel/apartment enough and will return soon :) Collapse

The double room is larger that normal and had a tub. The front desk was very nice and helpful. The only thing to be aware of is that there's no elevator. It's a historic building and the staff advised us that their request to add one was denied. The hotel is not very tall and unless you have a disability, this shouldn't stop you from booking here. I'd stay here again. Collapse

What a gem, tucked away from the hectic craziness and busy canals that is Venice. It took us a while to find the hotel, but when we did, it was so worth the extra few minutes walk. The management gave us a map, along with directions to the closest Vaparetto station, as well as restaurant ideas. They were super helpful, and then helped us carry our luggage up to our quaint, gorgeous bedroom. It was beautiful: clean, spacious and had a high window opening onto a house behind, as is the Italian way. So quaint in every way. The spotlessly clean bathroom had a shower in the bath, for all requirements. After a good sleep, we enjoyed the very best of all our Italian breakfasts : juice, fruit salad, a variety of cold meats and cheeses, as well as pastries galore! Espresso unlimited too! We departed regretfully wishing we could have spent another few nights in the welcoming, friendly, quiet atmosphere. Collapse
