This hotel was a huge disappointment! I am a seasoned traveller who always stays in four-star accommodations. That is what we thought we had booked. I would rate this hotel as a three star at the most. While there are some good features and services (helpful staff, breakfast, bar, live music, pool, games room), overall we found this hotel desperately in need of renovations. There were six of us travelling together. We winced as we got onto the elevator as the carpets were worn and stained. Hallways were tired; carpets was torn on the stairs. When we opened the doors to our rooms we sighed. ALL four of our rooms were old and dirty. -stained and scratched bathtub -filthy drapes -old thermostat hanging off wall -stained lampshade -narrow twin beds with lumpy pillows -no robes -small safe that required a key and cost..... €3 per day -internet access was rather archaic in its complexity The photos on their website in no way represent the hotel that we experienced! (I wonder if they are actually using photos from a different Tivoli hotel.) We are grateful that we had booked through travel specialists (Irene at Uniglobe Premier in Ottawa and Daniel at Skyway in Toronto); our agents were very helpful in resolving this issue- we were given a refund. The Tiv at Lagos is situated close to the marina and town centre. Whilst a resort, the town is typically Portuguese with a daily fish market and weekly vegetable market. Many nice shops and loads of excellent affordable restaurants(just choose b&b and eat out in the evenings). The hotel has indoor and outdoor pools and a great bonus, the beach club, boasting a pool, bar, snacks and changing facilities. One minutes walk away, is 6 k of uncrowded beach and free loungers for hotel guests. This facility is about a mile from the hotel, but a regular free bus service runs from the hotel. (Perfection, but check first as this is not available out of season) The breakfast buffet is excellent, catering for most preferences. Rooms and beds are comfortable, kept spotless with regular changes of laundry. Decent entertainment on several nights a week and the only down side, is it would not suit people with limited mobility. The hotel is built into a hillside and there are many levels plenty of steps and the lifts don't service every level. Otherwise, I rate it as very good. George Preston Collapse

I went to the Algarve on business. The weekend came and I really needed to relax. I decided to stay at the Lagos hotel for the first time. It was a very good weekend. It is a hotel with a touch of 70's that has returned to fashion. Romantic decor of very good taste. At 9 minutes from the beach, it is perfect for a morning walk. The SPA is very nice. The restaurant "Páteo Velho" serves Portuguese cuisine with very good quality. I recommend the fish soup to the Algarve way. The American breakfast is copious and has an offer for all tastes, for me who love fruit in the morning, it was great. The staff - Excellent professionals of a discreet kindness, always present and attentive to my smallest needs, but almost without notice them. I was there in September of 2015, I loved it and so I came back in May and in October 2017. I recommend anyone who wants to relax or even date .... Collapse
