I've always loved Threadneedles and it's such a pity that I don't get down to London more often. I had a superb lunch at Wheeler's on Tuesday. It really is a spectacular space, very grand, yet not in any way intimidating. The menu had changed since my last visit and I must say that my immediate urge was to attempt to eat my way methodically through everything on it. Classic starters such as Maxim's Quail eggs Maintenon, Oysters Rockefeller and the incredibly rich and inviting Mr White's French Onion soup as well as Escargots a La Bourgiuignonnne really did make choosing difficult. I went for the crisp Whitebait and a light salad of betroot and Goat's cheese, with candied walnuts. Being on a ridiculously timed diet, a belated attempt to work off the Christmas pork and lard meant no main course. It didn't stop me wishing I had tucked in though - it would have been the Dover sole, though, or perhaps the roasted red mullet. I would have had the fruit de mer (Oysters, langoustines, brown crab, lobster and Atlantic prawns), alas no one to share it with. The wine list is well balanced, with old world classic regions as well as exciting new world wines, recognised and more unusual grape varieties. Choosing wine is made easier as the wines are listed by style, with plenty available by the glass, which is perfect over lunch. Service was extremely friendly and warm. It was also great to meet up with the General Manager, Cedric and restaurant manager Jo, who were both very welcoming and good company. A brief visit, though I'll be back again as soon as I can fit back into the majority of my wardrobe. Collapse

This is a very special hotel seating in a beautiful building. Few minutes walking from Bank underground station and also a walking distance to Liverpool Street station ( we walked easily from there to the hotel with luggage ) and Tower Hill. Lots of excellents restaurants close by. Ducks & Waffle and Sushi Samba ( for a great views and nice food) are at your door steps. We tried also Harry `s Bar ( close to Bank ) and loved it. The area is great to visit the City, St Paul `s Cathedral, Tower of London, Tower Bridge and for lovely riverwalks. In fact we walked from Covent Garden to Tower Bridge, had an afternoon tea at The Brasserie at the Tower and returned on foot to the hotel. Our king room, on the top floor, was amazing. Comfortable, quiet, spotless clean with the usual fantastic Marriott `s bed... I booked a special rate for Marriott rewards members, on Marriott website, with breakfast included and it was a great value. And finally some words about the fantastic staff of the Threadneedles Hotel. From the moment we arrived we felt at home. We had a lovely welcomed card , from Cédric, delivered to our room with some chocolates and sparkling water. Mirela at the breakfast was also lovely ,serving a freshly cooked to order food, in the morning. Overall a fantastic weekend break in my favourite city of the world. I can `t recommend this hotel enough. Collapse

So lets say, usually I am black and white rating the places. And almost never I would give four stars. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of people working at this hotel. Very friendly and professional at the same time, and enjoying what they are doing. It is very rare to meet it, because I check in at the most fabulously designed hotels and face the most amazing indifference and lack of professionalism. And Threadneedles delivers more than expected when it comes to stuff. I would say as friendly as Four Seasons. As for the rooms, I have definitely expected more. Forgetting about the low price that I pay. Still, Threadneedles used to be among the first design hotels in London, it has set a certain benchmark, and you have expectations. The first room, which I was given was on the top floor, as I have requested. 5th floor. facing the backyard. Pluses: the windows do open. Double glazing, but of the old kind. So u basically you hear a lot from the constructions. I was in that room for 30 minutes, and I felt uncomfortable. The ceilings are really low. I was staying just for one night at the hotel, so normally changing rooms involves stress. And I hate it. That's why, knowing many hotel GMs I check-in with the phrase- Lets start with the third room. So I went downstairs, and asked for a different room. It was surprisingly very friendly, because usually the standard reply of the lazy stuff is We are fully booked, Sir. In the end we have found a better room on the third floor. With higher ceilings. But the windows wouldn't open. And a weird cut, but still much better for me than the 5th floor. And all the rooms were an upgrade already. I went to the restaurant. Quiet for a Friday night which I liked. Good food, reasonably price, but not inexpensive. Excellent service. So basically, the hotel is kind of Marriottish. But the quality of people are Four Seasons. I would basically like to mention Alexandra from Macedonia, who was super-friendly. Honestly, I don't know if I would return my next visit there, but it's good to know that it's a place I can rely on, and probably we will see us some time later this year. Collapse

We visited on a Sunday afternoon. I was surprised we were sat in the hotel foyer but that didn't matter. We were under a beautiful glass dome. We had champagne and a nice selection of sandwiches and cakes. Far too many for us along with unlimited tea or coffee. The staff were lovely. We sat for over two hours having a lovely time the only disappointment was we asked to take left over cakes home which was no problem but they should have been put in a box instead of wrapped in foil as when we got home they were squashed (still tasted good but wanted to share how nice they looked too) Collapse

Great hotel, the rooms are very comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was really good and had everything we wanted for a weekend away. It was very luxurious and the staff very helpful. The location was good in central near the financial side of the city so a little bit quieter over the weekend than Friday night. Will go back next time we are in London. Collapse
