Booked into this hotel and on initial appearances all looked fine - but went down hill very fast - took 15 minutes to locate my room as staff didn't give clear instructions - it appeared that my room was only 1 of 3 on one side of the hotel and you needed to use a dedicated lift to access this! Room was decorated to a high standard however, 2 out of 2 lamps didn't work and couldn't be replaced! Air conditioning/heating unit had to be turned off in the night as this made the most horrendous loud squealing noises - and it was below freezing outside - couldn't make a cup of tea as the tea tray didn't slide out of the unit it was squashed into! Never got the requested newspaper in the morning either. However the MOST important thing to note about this hotel was the fact that all of the fire doors were propped open on all floors!!!! This was brought to the managements notice and they had the decency to look horrified. Because of the way the doors were propped open this is obviously a regular practice. Certainly not worthy of 5 stars and certainly will never stay here again for my own safety. Will be reporting this hotel to the chain Marriotts. PS Went down for breakfast as we had booked and paid for, we at least I thought I had, only to be chased out of the restaurant by one of the staff asking for a bill to be paid! I did explain that I thought that this was already added to my booking but obviously and partially my fault that I didn't double check the booking confirmation received by email - I certainly do not recommend this hotel. Being totally honest, we were invited back to stay at what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. The room itself was fresh and airy. The complimentary bottle of wine was acidic and cheap. The room service was a shock, a very rude gentleman named Felix, who was apparently the porter answered, took the order, no p's and q's and slammed the phone down on me, without a thank you, goodbye, how long the order would take etc etc. I was gobsmacked!!! We went to bed late, I fell asleep quickly and unbeknown to me my wife was only covered by half of a duvet, the cover had 3 foot with nothing in it! I was told this and witnessed it in the morning. My wife complained on check out and we were invited back for afternoon tea, which was extremely nice. Throughout the follow up e.mails and phone call from the "guest relations manager', (obviously found the need for this appointment since our last visit), the excuse was that Felix did not mean to put the phone down on me and act in the manner he acted! He gets some good feedback! Incomprehensible! No mention was made initially, regarding the duvet. Following on from this, no apology was made as an acknowledgement of my wife's uncomfortable night. This was avoided by saying "I have double checked with housekeeping and all beds are made and contain the same bedding'. No-one in authority actually checked the bed/duvet! no apology was forthcoming, when as i previously informed them, that a simple apology would have sufficed. It implied to us that we were liars, to which we are deeply offended! Mr Baptiste Brun, kept mentioning the complimentary tea, support the staff and blow the guests, was my impression of him. He was informed that this whole affair would be reported on trip advisor, to which he said that he would assist me in future by recommending other hotels in the area and basically ok, carry on!!! What a way to run a Hotel, Basil Fawlty springs to mind! Collapse

This hotel stacks up to the Autograph collection brand. We first checked in as Marriott Platinum members and we were offered an upgrade for 50 pounds. We mis-heard the offer and thought it was 15 pounds so we took the upgrade and found ourselves in suite on the 5th level. After discussion we checked with the front desk to confirm the price and when we realized it was 50 pounds per night we opted out of the upgrade for the second night. We relocated rooms to a room on the 4th floor, which honestly we found to be a much better room. Higher ceilings made it feel much more roomy and we traded up to a king bed (from the queen in the 5th floor room). We really liked the breakfast at the hotel. For Marriott platinum members there are two options. There was the "power breakfast" which included sausage, a breakfast potato, two eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, British bacon (more like ham), juice, coffee, and either pastries or toasts. The "continental breakfast" included juice and coffee, fruit, yougart, cereal and either toasts or pastries. Both were very good and we really enjoyed the service at the restaurant. The room contained a hairdryer, coffee maker, an ironing board, nice shampoo and conditioner, a towel warming rack, a comfortable Marriott bed that they are known for, and two chairs and a table. Really comfortable rooms with all the necessities. The rooms on the fifth floor had a terrace. The terrace had chairs and a table to enjoy during the summer months. I would definitely come back to this hotel. Was in walking distance to many attractions and we walked all around London. Great area that felt really safe, even at night. Collapse
