Close to full score, but please read. It might still suit your needs. Stayed for two days, during a business meeting. Reception is open and well lit up. Pleasant and welcoming staff. Both stairs and elevator to your floor. Room is nice and open but should have had more light control for reading and other activities requiring better light. Bathroom had bathtub (which a lot of room have), but it had to much light, and with no possibility to reduce. So no romantic lights for you. You may turn of the light and leave the bathroom door open - I did so and had a wonderful time in the tub all by my self :D You can reduce temperature on the room, on the regulator on the wall. Very handy when opening window is not an option. It's possible to open the window, but there might be some noise. I didn't mind the noise until the morning. Breakfast area was busy. A lot of guest, but there was still enough seating. There are several stands with the same selection, meaning you don't have to care about waiting in line. There will of course be a lot of people, but it's quite ok. The buffet has mostly everything you need. Different varieties of eggs, bacon, juice, bread, yoghurt, salat, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and some more. Conference area is big, with servings. Snack, tea, water and coffee. Hotel had a fitness area on the 5th floor. But I wasn't there, so I can't tell you anything about it. Hotel is close to train station, so that's a huge advantage! Recommended for conference, not so much for private stay. But it depends on you agenda. Why not full score. Well, I'm being picky. Breakfast area is very busy. And you might not always find a seat for your self. Pillows in the bed is not so good. Collapse

If you are a business traveller flying into Oslo for meetings with the main banks or accounting firms on Eufemias, the Thon Hotel Opera is probably the most convenient option around. While I normally stay in premium chains like Starwood or Peninsula, this hotel is perfectly serviceable for s single traveller wishing to cut down on commuting time. There is a side entrance to the hotel literally across the street from Oslo Sentral station which is a non stop direct train to Oslo airport on Flytoget trains or the slower standard train. Five minutes after disembarking from the train I was in the lobby of the hotel checking in. And the entire way is covered from rain or snow. There are also many restaurants and easy food locations nearby due to the station and nearby business buildings. The hotel itself is serviceable. Staff all speak fluent English and are courteous and friendly. Everything is run efficiently and even large parties can check in quickly. I had a few emergency needs such as a power plug adapter and a sewing kit and they brought them to me quickly. Very helpful and a key selling point of the hotel. There is not much to say about the rooms. They are small after taking into account a desk, two small chairs, a small drinks table, double bed, and luggage stand. The ironing board is a bit clumsily designed requiring a lot of careful work to avoid getting burned but it all worked. Sound protection was ok although I could clearly hear my next door neighbor entering his room and closing doors internally. Also note that some rooms do not have a safe in them. Also the room itself is not that warm. I tried turning up the heat but it was cool throughout the night, which combined with their use of the Norwegian “mini blankets” concept meant that even with both small blankets on me, every little movement meant some part of me ended up exposed to the evening air. Woke up several times as a result. But at least it was quiet. The bathroom was good with the tub a very generous size for a hotel. Probably the first tubI have seen large enough to actually bathe in where most others use a small or narrow tub or just a shower. Note that the water can get absolutely scalding quickly! Underfloor heating as expected. This is a budget hotel so there is only a wall mounted soap dispenser for the shower and sink and there are no toothbrush kits provided. The main restaurant, Scala, is fine. The menu for dinner had some interesting choices. I had the “creamy fish soup” which was a delicious cross between New England Clam Chowder and Greek Avgolemono. Portion was small and soup cooled quickly though. Bread served alongside was four tiny stale dough balls but the butter was creamy. The main was wild boar which was, frankly, small and dry beyond belief. I don’t know if it was just overcooked but I almost sent it back except that I was too tired. They had a few decent European wines including a Riesling that I enjoyed. Dinner was NOK 600. Norwegian prices I suppose. The breakfast buffet was also in Scala and gets very busy! Had to circle round twice at 7:30am to find a seat for myself. It is a bit packed with all of the offerings in the central area and feels a bit like a cantina in a busy ski lodge. The food was good with the standard scrambled eggs more flavourful than I expected. There was a limited selection of fresh fruit, just melons and some pineapple chunks plus actual apples etc but they were fresh and tasty. Plenty of cereals, breads, and other carbs. Bacon, some cheeses, and small omelettes also available. Juices from concentrate. Saw a juicer being rolled out as I was leaving but didn’t try it. Will be staying there on my next business trip to Oslo probably. Collapse

We loved the location (just outside of central station) and the breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we had during our 8 day trip to Norway. The staff is very helpful and even let us check in early because our room was ready. The room was comfortable and had a very nice tub that I highly recommend using to warm up after a long day of walking around town in the freezing cold. The beds were typical but my husband who is 6'5" did not have a problem because they were actually long enough! Another added bonus was the breakfast. The breakfast was delicious! Not only was there a wide variety of foods, everything I had was fresh and delicious. Unfortunately, this set the standard for the rest of our trip and nothing else we had at our other hotel compared. Collapse
