The Talbot is full of old world charm yet provided bedroom accommodation which will suit all - my 82 year mother had an accessible room whilst my husband and I had a characterful one in the old part, After I had proved to the staff that we had paid in advance for 2 rooms they were apologetic about informing us that they only had one available and offered us complimentary drinks. Whilst the breakfast was disappointing (with the exception of the porridge) the evening meal was excellent. Collapse

I'm all for something different to the norm and I find this little cracker. It steps away from the 'usual' hotels offering a traditional feel with just the right amount of modern intervention supported with a home from home feel. Staffing is discreet when needed, but a little professional banter from the team is a major plus, especially when you stay away on a regular basis. I was in what they describe as the Ripley wing, which has great access from the car park through a keycard accessed lobby. Rooms have recently been upgraded and very well presented, warm, quiet and fabulously comfortable bedding, what more do you need! The room menu certainly started the belly rumbling, so off to the restaurant I went. I like it when I find it hard to decide what to choose, that says that the menus have been created to what the guest wants not what chef wants! I had the Scotch Egg with black pudding and the Cauliflower Cheese is fabulous, the blade of beef just melted. Team were busy, but my waiter Russell could not do enough and even twisted my arm to have a dessert! My fav, sticky toffee pud! Excellent, will be back, one small gripe, no fried bread for breakfast?? Certainly not a deal breaker and looked after my waistline a little after the amazing dinner the night prior, happy days and thanks! Collapse

From the web site the place looks old ,and the main building is. We booked two rooms for a saturday night, meeting relatives. Reception in main old coach house very characterful. We were given a very comprehensive description of all bar & restaurant meal times..very professional and polite, in fact all staff we encountered were very nice. The rooms were available a couple of hours early which was great, so we ordered some drinks in the cosy aged and comfortable bar...Good selection of lagers on tap ,two hand pulls, bombardier only on, well kept expensive but I suppose its a hotel so to be expected. Rooms we had been given were part of wings of a very modern build, at the back of the main building along with the car park for a lot of cars...No olde worlde character here, corridor ground floor small and smartish with second hand furniture to tone down the newness..I would have prefered new furniture and fittings to fit in with the shower room toilet fully tiled suite. All very clean. No fridge or bottled water. Was a comp tray with kettle, iron and board in wardrobe, along with blanket and extra towels... soft double bed. Roller blind window next to the annexes entrance, wife felt you could be seen from the edge gap.. As they have a function room, bar must have closed about 1 am woke me heard a few comming in, as usual no soundproofing from the corridor and people with party in them. Food, did not try saw £6 for a sandwich on the bar menu .. so drank in two of the pubs in the high street the ship pub good selection of ale , and used the Indian restaurant close by good food. After looking again at the web site the rooms we were given were nothing like the picture displayed. I was expecting a character room in an old building, we had less than a weatherspoons room for wetherspoons money.Accommodation clean and tidy nothing special, just a near to Guildford a place to sleep for the night . I did not kick as we were with relations and they had booked, and I wanted no fuss on the day. Collapse
Very good stay

Only stayed for one night but everything was very good. The staff were very polite and the room was excellent. The only slight problem we had was the temperature control. The radiators were either really hot or cold.
