The Talbot is full of old world charm yet provided bedroom accommodation which will suit all - my 82 year mother had an accessible room whilst my husband and I had a characterful one in the old part, After I had proved to the staff that we had paid in advance for 2 rooms they were apologetic about informing us that they only had one available and offered us complimentary drinks. Whilst the breakfast was disappointing (with the exception of the porridge) the evening meal was excellent. Collapse

When selecting our wedding venue from the 4 we had down selected, The Talbot ticked all the boxes for us. Russell and Krystyna are both very experienced and know the venue and what works best. In the planning phase they both suggested ideas that turned out to be spot on. The wedding day itself was amazing, and our guests made numerous comments ranging from "the best wedding breakfast food I have ever had' to "the venue and decoration was perfect". Nothing was too much trouble for Russell and his team and the manner in which the wedding ceremony, drinks reception, formal wedding breakfast and celebration party was managed was beyond our expectations. Many thanks Russell for all your effort and support, not to mention your performance as Master of Ceremonies. Anyone thinking of selecting the Talbot for a wedding venue, we will be happy to talk to. A big recommendation and thumbs up from the new Mr & Mrs Green Collapse

Checked in after 3pm on a Sunday after a stressful drive to be advised we were to late for food as restaurant closed until 6.30pm not even a snack available at bar, however other people, not staying, being served afternoon tea. Room and Bathroom clean but very tired not made up as twin as requested and booked at extra cost. Although staff polite did not feel they could be bothered. Bar also closed by 10.30pm even for residents-no night cap, the only acceptable element of our stay was breakfast. Collapse
Another happy visit.

First a big thank you to the girls who look after my room 203 who are generally the unseen and under appreciated backbone of any hotel to whom any request for more Tea bags, milk, extra towel etc are not only forthcoming but with a smile as well. I would also like to thank Russel and the restaurant and bar team for their general cheerful demeanour even under pressure. I stay at the Talbot a few times a year and all of the above is pretty consistent. Collapse

I booked this hotel for a treat for my Daughter and myself due to its location being central for Hampton court palace and Thorpe park. My 13 year old Daughter was excited to stay in a quaint hotel that is hundreds of years old. Upon arrival it looked really nice with its connected buildings and barns and we were looking forward to seeing our room with old beams and creaky floors. This is when the disappointment started. When we checked in we were given our key and was told to head to the building at the far end of the hotel next to the car park. The building was brand new and looked like a Travel Lodge. It wasn't even connected to the hotel :( We were devastated. Anyway after a long day at Hampton court palace we thought we'd make the best of it but the room was bland and uninspiring. The small window only opened about 2 inches and we couldn't see anything outside because there was an overgrown bush covering any views. Another treat I had promised my Daughter was something to eat by ordering room service but room service wasn't available at the hotel. I have to say though the bathroom was very nice. In the morning all we could hear outside our door was a very loud woman talking to other women. When I went outside my room to investigate it turned out to be the cleaners/room attendants. They were all sitting around talking and laughing loudly with their trolleys and vacuum cleaners with them. This went on for an hour and they were so loud it was annoying and I felt this was very unprofessional. There are other grievances throughout the stay but the above is enough to put anyone off..... I apologised to my Daughter and came home. Thanks Talbot Inn. Collapse

Overall we had a good stay but there were a few niggles. Our room in the new wing was very nice (apart from a small shower & TV that stopped working after the first night). But it was clean, modern, had a safe and the most comfortable bed of our trip. However I also saw another room in the older part of the building that was smaller, had a dirty carpet and was on the busy main road – if we had stayed there, this review would be getting a 3/5. Restaurant & pub area is attractive. Restaurant food was good. Breakfast had an excellent variety of cooked options the first morning, but then only 1 cooked option the second morning (full English). No idea why. The continental/cold breakfast options were good but more/fresher fruit would have been nice. For a wedding venue it was overall a nice, barn-chic kinda venue. The food was good and the outside courtyard with fairy lights is reserved for wedding guests which is a pleasant spot for drinks away from the dance floor. However I think that dirty carpets in the ceremony room, a toilet cubical with a missing lock and no steam cleaner to iron out any last minute wrinkles in the bride’s wedding dress seem like basics that shouldn’t be overlooked for a dedicated wedding venue.
