The room was spacious and bright thanks to the small balcony area. The bed was comfy although we wish there were extra pillows available in the room. I’m sure we could have asked for more but we were too lazy to bother. There was a TV available however, the remote didn’t have batteries. Again, I’m sure we could have asked for some. Everyday are room was cleaned which is great. Fresh towels and complimentary toiletries. The staff were lovely. Coming and going, the reception staff would always greet us. Central location. 5 minute walk to the metro and less for buses. Lots of eateries and shops in the surrounding areas. Collapse

This is my first time in Barcelona, so I don't know what is the different standards for hotels in this city. But, I do have a lot of relative comparison experience with other hotels in Europe and this hotel is on my personal short top list! Location: The hotel is near two metro stations (Urgell and Universitat) which gave me access to the L1 & L2 metro lines. Also, it is less than 20-25 minutes away from many attractions, so I didn't travel much on the metro. Room: The room was clean and had parquet floors. The bathroom had a two person shower and a Bidet (which made my wife happy). Room was cleaned and towels were changed every day. We had a room on the sixth floor facing away from the main street, so it was very quiet. There was a complimentary Nespresso machine with generic capsules (not too bad, by the way) and cream. There was, also, a minifridge, which was handy for keeping our drinks cold and tasty. Staff: Alway pleasant and attentive. Everything we asked for was addressed. Also helped with info on transportation and other info requests. Breakfast: The buffet breakfast had a huge amount of options (please refer to pictures). The food was tasty (although not as tasty as in a restaurant, but still better than most hotels). All dishes and cutlery were clean and the buffet was constantly checked for empty dishes to be replaced. Small issues to take into consideration: 1. The walls are very thin and you can hear every person walking the corridors or opening/closing a door. Also, some of the noises from the adjacent rooms were also heard in the room. It's not a big issue, but it is a bit annoying. 2. On the weekend the breakfast starts a little later than usual (at 8:00) and on a Saturday there was a different person in charge of it. Don't know if it was a one time issue, but all the hot dishes were missing or barely warm (eggs, sausages, bacon etc.). after about half an hour all the missing dishes were served, but for us it was too late because we had to finish our breakfast by 8:30 to get to Park Guell. 3. Because the room had parquet floors and the bad was resting on small wheels, it was always gliding slightly when you sitting or getting up. Again, not a big deal just a little annoying. 4. Not an issue, more like a tip: the rooms have a slot for a key card. Without the key card been inside the slot, nothing electrical is working. If you placed something in the mini fridge and you want it to be kept cold during the day, leave the key card in the slot when you leave the room and go about the city. Conclusion: Great hotel, not a bad location, very good breakfast, great bathroom and the room was of a decent size. Collapse

This hotel is well-located, quiet and spotless. Staff members are very cheerful and very helpful. A big thumb up to Irvin, the front desk clerk who made our check-in fast and smooth. We were assigned to a room with a great view on the Gran Via and the beautiful Barcelona University building and garden. Catalunya Square, the ramblas, the ciutat veilla, El Gothico and other attractions/locations are 5 to 10 min walk from the hotel. For 20 min, you can also walk to other attractions like Plaza de Espana and the Sagrada Familia. I strongly recommend Sunotel Central for everyone. I will definitely spend my next trip to Barcelona in this hotel. Collapse

I purchased this city break from Co Op Travel Kingswinford West Midlands. This is a company I have previously trusted. Not any longer. I paid £850+ for three nights in a four star hotel. This was clearly stated to the representative with whom I discussed my requirements. I would have thought that the sum of money I was planning to spend indicated my expectations. It’s not a small sum of money for three nights. We arrived to find a room that was not acceptable as four star. Co op Travel insist that I agreed to purchase a “basic” room. Why on earth would I pay £850 for three nights in the room pictures I include. The room lacked light during daytime and was extremely small. I did not request a room with a view but neither did I expect to find the only window to look onto a brick wall. The shower room had mould on the tiles and the door as shown was dirty. We asked to be moved but this was not accommodated. We were told to wait until the morning of the following day.... the second day of our three day break! We suffered the first night and tried to sleep despite the party going on in the room above us until the early hours. On discussion with reception early the following morning we were told that we had booked a “basic” room. What is CoOp travels interpretation of “basic” If it’s what I purchased then they need to be clear about this at the point of booking. This was never part of my discussion with the representative. I was given some black and white photocopies of two hotels. It was clearly stated that these were hotels Coop Travel use. This hotels rooms are available from less than £50 a night!? Look at its adverts on trip advisor on line. Co op travel I would imagine have pocketed the lions share of my money following flights. I have attempted to get some redress from this company however they no longer appear to value good customer service stating this hotel was my choice and I apparently “checked the hotel on line” following my booking with their representative. Why on earth would I need to do this? Do Co op Travel expect all their customers to verify their booking in this way just in case and to cover their backs? We eventually left this hotel and found an excellent four star hotel for the remainder of our stay. I did contact ABTA in regard to the issues I have reported, however the stress and anxiety fighting this issue has taken its tole in my health. I have as a result decided to deal with this by writing the cost of this city break off and put it down to experience. I have cancelled my ABTA complaint for this reason and ONLY this reason. I will obviously avoid this company in future and book on line. I am highlighting this to avoid others ending up in this particular room (103) in this particular hotel Sunotel Central Barcelona as its obviously a room allocated to customers of Co Op Travel.
