This was our third stay since August 2015 when we stayed for twenty nights while making a relocation from the USA to Gozo. On this most recent stay it was good to be recognized by, and also good to recognize, staff from that first visit. This remains a really nice hotel and, being of older construction, the rooms are very quiet. Breakfast is excellent and there is a option for buffet diner, The rooftop pool and deck provides an opportunity to relax and enjoy extensive views. Collapse
Another lovely hoilday

We first visited the Sunflower in August 2011 the year after we met and had a wonderful time ( see 2011 review ). We married last year but didnt have a big honeymoon so decided to celebrate our 1st anniversary with a return holiday to Malta and because of our last expirience decided to revisit the Sunflower for our 2 week stay. The hotel is still a little tired and frayed at the edges but that aside its lovely and all the staff are friendly and welcoming. Our room was simple but clean and housekeeping were in every day making up the beds and cleaning, fresh towels were also supplied everyday if required. We stayed halfboard, there was plenty of choice at both breakfast and dinner, for breakfast there was, 3 different cereals, toast, yogurts, fruit, meats, cheeses or a hot choice of fried eggs, bacon, grilled tomato and beans alternating dailey with scrambled egg, sausage, grilled tomato and beans. For the evening meals there was soup, salad bar, 2 choices of a hot pasta dish, a couple of meat dishes ( beef curry, roast lamb, rabbit, chilli con carne etc ) and fish plus plenty of veg, then if you still had room there was a choice of 2 types of cake or cheesecake and 3 types of ice cream or cheese and biscuits. The food was good quality and plentyful, We ate in every night apart from two night as we didnt fancy what was on offer on those nights. We noticed from a couple of reviews that the pool was busy and hard to get a sunbed, in the 2 weeks we spent here not one day did we not get a sunbed and it never got that busy at all even though there was a mini heatwave and tempratures were high 30's low 40's somedays. The pool bar served food and do lovely toasted ham and cheese baguettes. The reception staff were always helpful with information and directions to places of interest and also to arrange a free lift to the bus station. I cant remember the young ladys name behind the bar but she always met us will a smile and makes a mean cocktail too All in all we had a super holiday. A big thanks to all the staff we met. Collapse

Me and my colleague stayed here for a study tour with 40+ teenagers for 14 days. We were just amazed by how tolerant, friendly and accomodating the staff was; which, frankly, couldn't have been easy with a bunch of rowdy and loud Italian high school students. The food was great, and there was a wide choice even for the picky ones. The rooms were cleaned everyday, and left spic and span. They were attentive to every one of our requests and gave us great information about the best places not only in Buggiba but also in Malta. Special thanks to Dennis - the manager on night duty, Chris and Gloria. Collapse

Following the great experience we had on previous stays at this hotel we decided to return to and stay at the sunflower yet again. Everything you could possibly expect from a hotel was there:- Very clean, Lovely fresh breakfast with a great variety every morning, Nice bright air-conditioned rooms with all amenities you could possibly think of, Reasonably priced and the best asset the hotel has is all the staff running the place, I feel that every one of them went the extra mile to provide a great service and ensure their guests got nothing but the best - well done !. There are only 2 minor suggestions I would make:- First one being about the free wi-fi service, Yes it is 100% free but this could do with being faster and have more bandwidth available especially with the hotel being so popular and is nearly full up to capacity most of the time as a result there internet can be very slow almost to the point where pages don't load and this day and age having internet connectivity is essential for most people. The 2nd suggestion I would make is for the hotel to have more of a variety of TV channels in the bedrooms, There seems to be a lot of German and Italian channels but only 1 English channel which is sky news so maybe the TV channel availability should be reviewed and a better choice made available for guests who come from the U.K. If you're looking for somewhere that's reasonably priced and ticks all the boxes then this is the hotel to stay at, Very satisfied and would Highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We will definitely return in the near future. Collapse

Me and my husband have stayed in this hotel for one week. We have booked holiday in it through local travel agency, but I can say we could have made a better choice about the hotel. The location is not the best (bit of a walk from Bugibba centre, beach or bus station) but this was not the biggest issue. Hotel is quite shabby and seems older than it really is. We had constant problems in the room - our toilet was shaking and toilet seat broke down three times (during one week!). Even when we arrived (to supposedly clean room), we found there long black hairs (definitely not mine), cushion on the chair was dirty and unwashed, and the curtains were very dirty as well. The bathroom is really small and the water leaks every time when you have shower - it is o the floor and can even spread to the room. Rooms do not have a fridge - in such hot weather this is a necessity. The food was ok. Breakfast was fine, nothing special, but fine. What we liked were dinners, big selection (buffet) for a very reasonable price. Drinks were extra. A surprise was that breakfast started just at 7.30 (which is a bit hard when you need to leave the hotel already at that time) - this was the latest I have ever seen in a hotel. Nice feature was the hotel pool on the roof, there was a good view. But again, the sun beds were somewhat broken. Wifi worked surprisingly well, we had no issues with it. The hotel staff was helpful and nice, this is true, however, this could not make up for constant problems we had. We also did not feel like complaining, we just wanted to enjoy our holiday, but it was not possible. Even on the last day we had an issue, we found out our taxi to airport was not ordered, even though I was assured the day before it was ok and the taxi will come as we needed. No harm done as it in the end came (just a bit later) but it still does not add up to a relaxing holiday. All in all, not the worst hotel ever but quite a disappointing one, and you could definitely get a better one in the area. I would not go back to this hotel. Collapse
