We were celebrating an Anniversary. So not sightseeing. All the staff were very polite and helpful. The room was comfortable. Lovely beds. The one person lift wasn’t a problem as the hotel was not busy. The last night it was out of service which was a problem as my husband is. On 2 sticks and our room was on the 3rd floor. We didn’t have the evening meals we payed for but the only reason being that we had other plans. The breakfasts were good and plenty of it. On the whole all we needed for a good weekend. The bar area was comfortable there was happy hour 4pm -6pm which we found out by the lower price charged. Also the Indian restaurant along the corridor has 20% off food if you are staying at the hotel. Collapse

On arrival, I was greeted with a very warm welcome by the lovely receptionist who although didn't give me any information about check-out times or show me to my room, was nice and polite and served me with a smile - and I would hate to fault such a lovely receptionist as I would rather a warm welcome and lack of information as opposed to a rude receptionist who told me everything I need to know. After checking into my room, I noticed that there was rubbish on the floor from the previous guests, there were hairs in the bathroom and the glass shelf under the bathroom mirror was off its hinges - which I didn't want to touch in case it fell and I would have been blamed. As I have always got anxious about the thought of complaining, I just dealt with the mess. When I finally got in to bed to go to sleep (a time I assumed too late for the reception to be open), I noticed stains all over my sheets and covers and I noticed I had come up with a rash on my chest. By this point I was so tired, I just rolled over and went to go to sleep, thinking it could be just a heat rash. If that wasn't enough, as plugged my phone in to charge down the side of the bed, I found a used condom - absolutely horrendous. After getting some tissue to pick it up and put it in the bin, I FINALLY go to sleep. In the morning, I had to assume what time check-out was, as there was no information book or leaflet of some sort in the room - so I aimed to check out at 11am. As I got up out of bed, unclothed myself to get dressed, no knock may I add, a housekeeper just swipes her card into my room and barges in on me fully naked. Not the service I'd expect to have paid for. This left me crying, mortified on the bed. When I checked out, the lovely receptionist was back again and so I assured that she was lovely, however the housekeeping service I would like to complain about - so I told her about the lack of cleaning and the inconsiderate housekeeper. And how the housekeepers should check what rooms are empty or if they haven't checked with reception, to at least knock! Thankfully she agreed, apologising profusely and agreeing this was disgusting behaviour. I was told I would get a full refund, and they'd give me a call - however I never got a call. Disappointed and mortified. Collapse

On arrival the front of the hotel looked nice, there was free parking and the lady who checked us in was friendly but that's it. I ask for two things in a room a clean bed which I and my friends have and a hot shower, well the shower in my room was a trickle, in my friends room he had to take the shower head off to try and get some hot water. This is a joke in these days of standards being expected. The breakfast room was full of plates from guests that had not been cleaned away from previous guests and the food was not that appetizing. The lift was old an and unstable. Signage to rooms were poor and when I came back from my night out i could just wonder in without having to use a key to the front door or passing anyone or reception, very poor security. Avoid this hotel, even with the price being reasonable there are many better hotels in Eastbourne. Collapse

We booked this hotel not expecting five star, but just wanting a good value stay in Eastbourne and that is exactly what we got. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were basic, no hairdryer and a very small television but adequate for an overnight stay. The view from our seafront room was fantastic, the weather was very cold and windy and this made the rooms draughty due to the sash windows, but this is part of the style of the building. We had an evening meal which was very good for the price we paid but again the dining room( in the basement) was cold so they provided us with a heater next to the table. The bar was very nice and warm so we suggested through the winter eating in this room would have been much better as it appeared under used. We were looked after by a young Italian waitress and a French waitress who were both very hardworking and did their best with their limited English. They were polite and keen to help. I really feel for the owners as it's such an old building to maintain and they are working to such a keen price I would think they are making very little money out of the business. I would say to people go with an open mind that you are staying in a hotel that was very grand in its earlier years and the owners are doing a good job of keeping it open and providing a place to stay at a very good prices. They do however need to monitor people smoking in the rooms as we did detect a strong smell in the first floor corridor. Having the dining room upstairs would have been much more pleasant and forget using the basement except for perhaps a games room or party room hire. If the owners carry on working hard and keep up with the service I think they will be able to build up a good value place to stay in a fantastic position right on the seafront. Collapse
