I stayed with my family on Saturday and Sunday. We had a very good stay. The staff were very friendly and ready to serve you at all times. Jimit, the manager, went out of the way to make sure we had a good experience and a memorable stay at the Strand Hotel. It's great location near the sea and close to everything we needed to go for our visit. We are looking forward to go back in this hotel Lim Collapse

We were looking forward to this break but...... lift only held one person at a time and we were on third floor. The lift was not very clean, chewing gum in corner! Kettle lid broken and bedside light didn't work as no bulb in it. Decided to have dinner one evening, what a mistake....a hour and a half it took for our main meal to come, very small amount of frozen veg which was cooked to death. My husbands dessert arrived but I had to ask for mine and then wasn't what was on menu. Staff didn't speak unless we spoke first and that was if we were lucky. Some bar staff don't seem to know their job....how to pour a pint! My husband had to ask for a class for my drink. Also bar person continually left bar unattended although several guests in the bar. The list could continue! Won't be returning to The Strand. Collapse

Awful hotel and I can see that so many others have experienced nothing but awfulness as well! When we checked in my husband and I owed £65 for our room and were a little annoyed that we had to give a further £20 as a deposit when you pay cash. Whilst I understand that they have their reasons for this there was no warning of this anywhere and I have triple checked this which I feel is rather awful as we were on a very tight budget and did not budget in for that at all. When we got into our room it was a little astonishing to see a very un-hovered and un-kept carpet with bottle caps all over the floor and used cigarettes... Do you have a house-keeping team Strand? If not I would invest in one and if you do have one I would suggest a new one. And you should also take a good look at the floors because they creek like mad! Upon visiting my cousins room as soon as I stepped into the hallway she was in it wreaked of smoke and when I stepped into the room the smell of smoke was unbelievable! I called reception who had no sympathy or apology just a very solemn ''I'll send someone up'' and then hung up the phone. They did luckily get moved but the shower in the new room was so filthy and off putting to use. After coming back and deciding to have a few drinks in the bar after our evening meal we found the barman extremely rude. My cousin asked for a rum with diet coke in which he told us that they didn't do diet coke... that's fine if you don't stock it then you don't stock it... but the issue came when my cousin explained that she was a diabetic and asked if there are any other dietary drinks she could have and the barman shrugged and said ''it's my second day, I don't care,'' in which my cousin said ''well that attitude doesn't make a good Trip Advisor review,'' and he again just told us he didn't care. So after that we left and went to the hotel next door, Langhams, who were so lovely and appalled to hear of the service and are the only reason we haven't been put off coming back to Eastbourne as it's a lovely place the only thing that ruined it was the hotel! We then went back to The Strand hotel to go to bed all feeling pretty peeved which was a shame as this was all for my cousins birthday! When we got to the room we found a few bugs on the bed and felt extremely itchy and have both come back with a few bite marks and upon looking at Trip Advisor on our return saw other complaints about bed bugs which is really disgusting! Then on leaving the hotel and telling the receptionist all of this she wrote a few notes and apologised with a big smile on her face - and when my cousin checked out to complain all she did was offer a free drink in the same bar that had treated her awfully. Never have we ever felt so glad to leave a place! We understand there are different star ratings on hotels and The Strands was a slightly lower one but surely they would do their best no matter their budget or star rating to give good service for a supposed ''budget hotel'' when they have so much competition around them! Believe me the four of us that went are actually not precious at all - but the rudeness, the smell of smoke and dreadful housekeeping was just something else all together. My husband and I paid £65 and my cousin and her partner paid £75. These prices are totally wrong... your service and rooms are not worth that in the slightest! If you're looking for a budget hotel look for one with better reviews.. don't let your stay in lovely Eastbourne be ruined by this lot! Collapse
