After booking a 'relax & revive' package, we didn't feel relaxed or revived after being unaware the pool was open to children as they failed to mention it. Its fair enough the members have children but felt it was unreasonable to sell 'relax and revive' spa days knowing it is open to children. Reception by the pool was terrible service, when i went up to ask for a drink they said 'go get it from the fridge' and when i explained i had already checked and there wasn't what i wanted, they then said 'oh' and disappeared, to then come and find me by the pool saying you'll have to come back and give us 2.75 and then we can go and get it. Now forgive me if i'm unfair here, but after paying over 200 to spend the day relaxing by a pool open to children to then be told they wont advance me 2.75 until we left seems ridiculous. So i then have to go back to the changing rooms, up to the counter, and then wait for the drink! However, the spa reception (separate from the pool) was fantastic, helpful, friendly and pleasant, shame this wasn't the front reception! Collapse

Just returned from Easter weekend stay with my family to celebrate my sons 9th Birthday on Saturday, I was quite surprised the hotel is inconsistent with other Marriott hotels I've stayed in around the world. When I booked the hotel I was aware pictures can be deceiving but this hotel really needs to be updated, the pool area looks really worn out, cladding pealing away, Jacuzzi has no water and was out of order, changing room was falling apart, some locker doors were hanging of the hinges, two very feeble private changing cubical with no door with a thin material on a rail, it really was not good. We decided on the a la carte menu on the first night, the fillet of beef was just about cooked to medium rare, the food was not too bad and the waiter Mauro was very attentive and tried really hard so that made it better, we also went to the Grill and Bar but this was a bit unorganised as it was more set up for drinking then a sit down meal with the family. The room was average, and a bit worn, the housekeeping needed to be called on the first day as we got in, as they had not cleaned the toilet as you would expect when you first arrive to a hotel with a small present left by a previous guest, then when I asked for the wifi I was told I needed to input our room number and name and then I was given a variety of options where I had to pay, in our case £25 for 3 days wifi - in this modern day and age I have rarely been to a hotel where there is no free wi fi, on top of that I found out at the front desk the next day if I signed up to a Marriott rewards card I would not need to pay the £25!! so in the end I signed up to the rewards and the Wifi charge was taken off by a helpful member of staff. The room was really dusty, there was layers upon layers of dust around the lamps, top of the bed board, the tables were not cleaned properly it was appalling, on the first morning we went out and when we came back the housekeeping had been in however the beds were made so badly my children could have made them better, it was like they just shoved the pillows back on top, I went outside and found a housekeeping staff and asked her to come in and tell me if this was acceptable, she shrugged her shoulders and said it must have been one of the 'younger' girls - how unprofessional.. The breakfast was good, however the poor kitchen staff were really stretched, today they had one man running the eggs, topping up the dishes with food getting asked for multiple requests all on his own, the waiting staff were great however there were more people waiting then helping with the food, given it was the usual breakfast buffet it could have been more organised, I waited nearly 10 minutes for a fried egg, my wife gave up and so should have I as when I got back they had nearly finished their breakfast. On a separate one, we ordered room service for one of my children last night as he did not eat much during the day, the kids meal was £12- fair enough but then they added a £4 tray service!! the boy only ordered a fish goujons and some hummus, more than 30% of the price was added for someone to deliver to our room, I understand this stops people taking the michael but surely make it a bit relative to the price, it must have been in such small print I never saw it or I would have gone and got it myself. Overall, the staff I spoke to were very polite and helpful, but unfortunately the product they represent/ed does not live up to standards especially for a large global hotel brand like Marriott. I am disappointed as like many I paid a lot of money to stay here for 3 nights and I left with a very sour taste in my mouth, I do not know what market they are appealing to but clearly I felt that the idea was better than the reality.... disappointed. The building and grounds are stunning and are ideal for a break from city life. The rooms were slightly above average and because of the pool the hallways were extremely hot & humid. It was difficult to maintain a constant temperature in the room due to this. The restaurant was amazing, fast service & reasonable prices. The sunday lunch was brilliant! To improve I'd definitely offer a shuttle service to the city centre, as the cost for a taxi to the city centre is £10+ each way! Overall fantastic hotel with room to improve. Collapse
