Returned again to Son Caliu and greeted by Miguel and other reception staff as an old friend. The hotel, having undergone some excellent refurbishment since our last visit, is as special as ever and we were very pleased to be given one of the new rooms with a full on sea view. The room was excellent and access to the Portals Lounge with its own bar a pool a real plus. We just have to mention another outstanding member of staff here - Jennifer in the lounge just couldn't do enough - she was friendly and looked after us each day to the best. It was my partners birthday while we were there and somehow the hotel had tracked that and on her actual day a bottle of Cava (a good one) appeared in the room with the compliments of the management - brilliant touch! We do have to mention a couple of things about the room - very minor but something to think about. No headboard to the bed makes it look very sexy with the new lighting etc. but the wall is very hard and we both banged our heads (while completely sober) a couple of times. The other issue is the slight lack of privacy when looking down on the new rooms with their own pools - bit embarrassing for us looking down on a young couple clearly enjoying their holiday and it must have been awkward for them too - something else to think about. We did have one disappointing incident with pool towels being refused to us by the Spa as we had received some already that day but were wet and we did ask if we could replace them - one member of staff said we could but then an older lady just gave us our towel cards back and refused us fresh pool towels. We understand when busy, it is a real problem of towels fro the hotel, but had we had a friendly explanation, we would have happily kept our previous towels. We were on our way to the beach, where of course room towels should not be taken, and on explaining to the reception as we passed, all was sorted out and fresh towels provided. We shouldn't have had to do that but the reception at this hotel is first class and always supports the customer. The buffet breakfast, as expansive as ever and excellent, and waiting staff friendly and efficient every morning, even when the restaurant is full - if you wait until after 9 to go in - 8 to 8.30 perfect each day. So overall the hotel is as good as ever, save two minor issues, the refurbished wing is brilliant - feels like a cruise ship - and we can certainly say we will be back again and again when in Majorca. Thank you all again. Collapse

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Son Caliu for a week. It was a nice stay and the hotel was lovely, but there were some issues. First, the hotel lost power on three days. The first instance was for a few hours if not most of the day. The other instances were generally for 15-20 minutes at a time. Nothing terrible, but still, a bit unprofessional. Second, the air conditioning throughout the hotel, and especially in our room, was insufficient. The lowest temperature our room ever got was 24C. Sure, it's cooler than the 31C it was outside, but still, it was very uncomfortable trying to sleep at night since there was no fan. We contacted reception about this, and they sent someone up, but he just looked at the thermostat and told us that there was nothing wrong. Well, that's not exactly true; he told us that where the fan for the A/C was located (in the entryway to the room) meant that it wouldn't really cool the room that well. Not sure if that was just our room, or if they all were designed like that. On the more positive side, I was surprised that we never had issues getting chairs for the pool. There didn't seem to be the culture of reserving seats at the crack of dawn, and despite the hotel seeming full, there was always space. And finally, the Spa is a hidden gem. I wish we had discovered it sooner. Hotel guests have free access to the pool and the thermal area, and there is a sunning area as well. This was all indeed quite the 'oasis' from the usual part of the hotel. Unortunately, children under 12 can use the pool until 14:00, so it was slightly annoying whenever kids would be shouting and running around. But in all, the spa was certainly worth it. Plus, if you have a late flight on your checkout day, you can use the spa, shower, and change before catching a taxi to the airport. Definitely worth it. Collapse

Lovely hotel to relax, with a lovely spa. Hotel staff very helpful, has recently been upgraded, great breakfast and dinning. Is approx 20 minute walk from Palma Nova, if you wish a little more night life, but not my cup of tea, but lovely beach.
