We have recently returned from a week long stay at Gran Hotel Sol y Mar. We have been to Calpe a few times but have never stayed here. We decided to choose a Suite as we have a 16 year old son and thought that having more room would good. We were not disappointed. The Suite had a large sleeping area with a double sofa bed, wardrobes and a large shower room. The main area had a huge bed, but still very spacious, a very big bathroom with a fabulous jacuzzi, wardrobes and two sets of sliding doors onto the balcony which again, was enormous. The view was fantastic. We enjoyed the sun there whilst having a coffee in the morning and the shade in the evening with a glass of fizz - perfect! The food in the restaurant was always lovely with plenty of choice (we have to say that the freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast was the best ever)! The staff were very friendly and always happy to help. If we visit Calpe again, we would definitely stay at Gran Hotel Sol y Mar. Collapse

Arrived to a small glass of cava whilst waiting to check in which set the scene for a perfect holiday.. We received an upgrade to a junior suite which was fantastic however just as well I was with my sister as we had to share a double bed (suites don't do twins which is a shame) however it was massive so didn't cause us any problem and well worth it for the bigger room. Two bathrooms so no argument of who goes first! Amazing views from the room too, sea view well worth the extra money. Spotless hotel with fantastic breakfasts. You could eat in the dining room or lower area which had tables set up outside. We always chose outside, it had everything we wanted for our breakfast so had no need to try the dining room option. My sister is coeliac and they even had a separate area for GF products! The pool area was lovely and being adults only meant it was peaceful and the pool was never crowded. A few 'freebies' made it.. sun cream, fresh fruit was brought round, as was a cold water spray to cool you down and a frozen smoothie... I must give a mention to the 'turn down girls' although not sure if they thought us a couple as we are very different but always smiling and friendly. We were always in the middle of dressing for dinner when they arrived! Great bar by the pool in the evening although we didn't make Le Chaps above it.. we will on our next visit. We had a late pick up but after checking out of our room were furnished with cards to allow us access to the pool and the spa where we could shower and get changed which was great. Will definitely return sooner rather than later even to a lowly twin room as I am sure they are just as lovely. Handy having the Supermarket underneath the hotel too. Thank you for a fantastic visit. Hi We had a weeks holiday in the Sol y Mar Hotel in Calpe in June. From reading the reviews I was confident we would not be disappointed and I was right. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. It really is 4* and more. We didn't book a sea view room but this didn't matter in the end. The room was lovely. It was cleaned everyday. I loved the fact they left toiletries and water for you and the towels were big fluffy towels, excellent quality. The hotel was right on the beach. We choose a room with B&B. The breakfast was fantastic. It was really lovely to come down every morning and sit by the window looking out at the beach in front. The pool area was amazing. You could get a sun lounger most days no problem. We loved Calpe itself as well. Although it was quiet with regards to pubs and nightlife, we were happy to go for meals in the night and come back to the hotel to listen to the music in the hotel. I didn't see any other bars except from the bar across the road which didn't appear to have music so I would say to anyone looking for that kind of holiday they might be disappointed. I normally like a bit of entertainment but even though it was just myself and my partner, we felt happy just going for meals at night. We found the holiday really relaxing. Away from all the crowds and the usual cheap shops you find in other resorts. I would give this hotel and resort 10/10. Collapse

My husband and I last visited this fabulous hotel in September 2016 and were blown away by the whole experience. I never usually visit the same hotel twice, in case it disappoints, however the Sol y mar so exceeded our expectations we did not hesitate to rebook. On checking in it was chaotic, there was no calm or conversation with the receptionist, I asked if everything was okay and was told it was chaos! Body language confirmed that point. From there on in I had a feeling this was not going to be the same as the previous year. Our room which was sea view was missing the WoW factor, previously we had been left little gifts at night chocs, pillow mist, foot cream. this time we had a bottle of Cava, and replaced daily Coke and Water, but no little gifts. Such a shame. The dining was exceptional one area that certainly did not disappoint, food a plenty, lots of variety and attentive service. But and it is a big but, why let restaurant staff smoke at the front of the hotel? Surely there is a designated smoking area? I found that really off putting, the staff however not so even saying hello whilst having a ciggie! I visited the Spa on a few occasions to do the circuit, however the female changing rooms need attention the ceiling had a water leak and it was rather large, hopefully this is going to be fixed. In the large pool there were some plasters floating in the water - yuk! After chatting to some staff it transpired that the sister hotel The Suitopia, had been delayed by a week in opening, which meant that there was a huge up hevel to events at the Soly Mar. That affected our visit for sure, we ended up making the most of our stay, which was not up to the standards I know this hotel can produce. I spoke with one of the managers there ( Yolanda) and expressed my concerns. The Soly Mar is a fantastic hotel and I would like to think our stay was just a blip, but it has left me disappointed as I expected so much more. Collapse
