Stopped as part of a secret escapes deal. It is a wow hotel when you first see it. Lovely greeting from receptionist and great service from her too. Had a min afternoon tea which was lovely, freshly made fillings and the coronation chicken was the best I had ever had. Ate in restaurant at night, portion sizes were a bit small for the prices. Love led even smaller on very large plates. Great service again, all through our stay it was spot on. Breakfast was good but we were one of later arrivals and most of fresh fruit had gone and not replenished. Toast brought before cooked breakfast, which is a pet hate, but lovely breakfast cooked to order. Bit noisy on night, think it was due to us being near kitchen fans so that was a little disappointing. Would stay again but a different room Collapse
Ideal venue for that Xmas [or any other] mini break!

We stayed here on a Groupon one night with an Evening meal and breakfast deal. The food is excellent. We had a three course meal as part of the deal and it was terrific.I must mention the sea bass main course that was perfection. There was an excellent choice of quality starters and sweets. This was accompanied by a fine choice of wines or two draught beers. Breakfast was equally good. I had smoked haddock and poached egg which was perfectly prepared. There was plenty of cereal yoghurt ,fruit and toast too. Our bedroom was very well furnished and decorated with a huge sleigh bed,My only criticism of my whole stay was that there were some stains on the carpet,I would have had session with vanish carpet stain remover;it usually works! All the staff were friendly and I felt it was excellent value for money. I am happy to recommend this hotel to my friends and family. We will definitely visit again Collapse

A dull day and, on a whim, decide to drive over to Solberge and do lunch. Receptionist most obliging and introduced me to restaurant staff member who took me to my table. (I hadn't booked) the menu was good and varied. Restaurant well attended. I chose Parsnip soup with Parsnip chips, followed by Salmon with seasonal vegetables and served with a shellfish sauce. Now I'm afraid shellfish are not in my diet! I requested another sauce at the chef's discretion. Waitress came back and asked if Tarragon sauce would be ok! Absolutely fine. By this time, a young gentleman had asked if I'd like anything to drink. I found their Sauvignon crisp and delicious.....as was the soup...when I was served, after asking, with the 'chips' - which would have been better described as 'crisps' but delicious and provided texture and trim. Roll and fresh butter were stylishly served on a slate. I needed to request black pepper which I expected to be on each table but was served to me from one enormous mill by a young waitress. I asked her to relay this information to her managers and she, unexpectedly, replied that it 'would save the staff some work!' Several waiting staff looked after me today and most were excellent. I was provided with extra sauce, without asking. The salmon was served with a large bowl of fresh piping hot vegetables, enough for two at least! All cooked perfectly. Absolutely delicious. I'm afraid I couldn't resist a pudding! I chose an apple sponge bakewell type tart, served with salted caramel icecream! Oh my word! Light crisp pastry, crammed with apples and fluffy sponge topped with almonds. It was so good! So my compliments must go to the chef and his team. Everything I ate was fresh, flavourful and completely delicious! I simply couldn't fault it! A full flavoured cappuccino followed, served with a homemade crisp shortbread biscuit. Alas - I had to ask for sugar and, when it arrived in a covered pot, I found no sugar contained therein and had to ask again! Small points but staff training issues nonetheless. Another point I noticed in the dining room, looking around, the beautiful semi-circular window which I believe would have given wonderful views.....had it not been for three maintenance/delivery vehicles parked outside over the lunchtime period. All considered, the meal was most enjoyable and I would recommend the food there to anyone. Collapse

The hotel, which is a fine looking building, sits amidst open farmland with unbroken views of the surronding area. The scene is somewhat enhanced when viewed on a late Autumn afternoon with beautiful sunshine. The welcome was warm and check in prompt. The internals of the hotel are everything modern chain hotels are not. That means no lift. I stayed in one of the larger rooms which was very nice. High ceilings, almost full length windows and a four poster bed. The bathroom is modern, well fitted and warm. Breakfast was very nice, possibly a greater selection of fruits would be a nice plus. The cooked part was excellent. The whole area was looked after by Gaye who was great. There are a couple of snags. Firstly the room could do with a new pain job especially on the windows. The sofa needs new seat cushions. Lastly the wifi was awful. Not sure if this was just in this room or throughout the hotel. Collapse
