We just came back yesterday from a 7 days stay in this hotel. I must say that I always check on TripAdvisor the reviews before we go, and I only read good things about Solana. But this time the reviews did not help. We arrived at the hotel around 10 pm. We did not receive any cool drinks as I saw that others have mentioned. We booked full board, so we expected to receive some cold food at the arrival (for the missed dinner that evening),but we were told by the receptionist that the kitchen was closed at that time. After my husband insisted, the receptionist said we can go to the Tosca restaurant(a la carte) and order something there. The waiter said he "can offer" us pizza. We chose some pizza from the menu and that was it. We did not appreciate that we had to ask for something that we paid upfront. I suppose we were not the first or the last guests to come in late, and since the hotel has full board, they should have something planned. The room we received was awful. It was on the 1st floor by the street, which is very loud, even at night. We had air conditioning, but it smelled bad and we tried to sleep with the balcony door open.We barely slept that night. The next day I talked to Bernice at the front desk and asked for a different room.We received a better room, at another floor, just that this one could not accommodate 4 beds (they cal these rooms junior suits, but they are not) and we ended up sleeping in 3.But we accepted it, even if our children are teenagers, because the room was cleaner and it wasn't by the street. Bernice was the only one who tried to help us and I thank her for it. The air conditioning was above the beds in both rooms, even if it did not smell, one could not keep it on the entire night anyway. As said before we had full board.Breakfast and dinner were ok,with the mention that they had few fresh fruit and vegetables and that the coffee mugs were not completely cleaned and you would have to look for clean ones.Lunch was not ok. They would tell you each day were to eat- in the main restaurant or at the reception bar or at the rooftop bar, according to the number of people eating lunch that day. And since they weren't many, we ate a couple of times by the bar.The choice was very poor-only one soup,"soup of the day" and some burgers. If you wanted anything else than what was marked with knife and fork on the menu, you would have to pay extra. We didn't want to pay extra since we had already paid upfront,so we gave up lunch a couple of days because we could not stand the burgers anymore. Also, I have never seen before a 4 stars hotel without table cloths and napkins, they would just put the glasses on the table. Also, if you wanted to use the safe, you would have to pay a charge and a deposit. I can understand the charge, but why the deposit? Would anyone in this world try to check out from the hotel with a safe deposit box? Malta is a great destination, plenty to see and do,but this hotel is not what it advertises, all the little details count and make the experience as a whole. Collapse

A nice hotel and well located. There is a bus stop outside the hotel which will take you down to the beach and to the ferry port and then one just down a bit that takes you to Valetta and places in between. The hotel itself is fine, the buffet breakfast is nice. When you arrive they ask you if you want to pay more for an outside view but we didn't go for this as it was unlikely you'd see the sea. Our room didn't overlook much, but it was fine. The pools were good, the staff friendly and the whole place was clean. Collapse

This is a late review , arrived late June to early July (2 weeks ) . Arrived to be greeted with a cool drink . As we were celebrating our wedding anniversary we requested a possible upgrade . Shown a few rooms by Egon (who was very helpful the whole holiday ) . We had a nice room overlooking the road on the top floor . It also had two sun lounges on the balcony . Had to pay extra but very well worth it . Hotel outside pool was on the same level . Food at this hotel was superb can't fault it . And I am fussy !!!! Special mention must go to Ivan who was very cheerful the whole time ! Mind you ALL the staff from Reception , cleaners to waiters/ waitresses were first class . Just a few pointers Hotel is on a hill , so be prepared to walk up to the hotel at some stage . Few bars to look out for Seaveiw bar at the bottom of the hill ,round the back of the church lovely view of the bay and the Square bar outside the main church . I think it was called that only found it on our last few days . The square where that pub is can be got to by going up side street directly opposite the hotel go up two flights of steps and turn right and walk along . Well worth it ! For people like me who drink real ale in the UK try Hopleaf beer really nice . Cheapest for a bottle of Hopleaf and gin and tonic was €€3,30 not at those two pubs but look around . Once again Thanks Egon !!! Collapse

The hotel was absolutely wonderful! The staff were so helpful with our hundreds of questions. Always greeted with a smile! The kids enjoyed the pool and my husband and I enjoyed a couples massage at their sister hotel since they were booked. Their sister hotel was just a walk down the street. The bus stop was right in front of our hotel which was great to be able to visit the rest of Malta. Very clean and great breakfast!! Collapse
