They are in the process of renovating the hotel, but it takes more then just a lick of paint to get it up to 4 stars level again. The location is great, close to Playa del Jardin, close to the center, nice sea views. What was great about the room is that it was freshly painted, big soft towels and the view was great. At the same time there was no fridge and the tv, hairdryer, safe, air conditioning and windows seem to belong in the previous century. These things are not 4 stars. I liked the breakfast. It is a pity that you are dining in the basement, but on the other hand it is cool there. The diner buffet was great. You have the usual buffet, but every evening there was another choice of fish and meat being prepared by show cooking. The sea view balconies have a good view, but there is no privacy there; Swimming pool area is not very big but it is nice and since you are very close to the sea, there are always free chairs available. Internet connection was not as fast as home, but more then adequate. Collapse

The entrance is very nice & welcome, also the pool is nice but much more smaller than it looks in the pictures. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is not the best, always it was too dry (fries, tortilla, bacon). I don't recommend the beef stew. So, I had the standard room, clean enough & tidy but very outdated (see pictures). To be honest with you there are not 4 stars, maybe 3 stars, but definely not 4. If you want safe deposit box you have to pay 3€/day extra. The location is great, Playa Jardin is the closest beach (4 min walk) and is very nice with black sand. Also Loro Park is at 15 min walk from hotel, oposite direction is the Lago Martianez and the old city, same 15 min walk. Collapse

Wow my legs hurt more walking round puerto de la cruize than they did on leg day, everything is downhill which is great but then you have to walk back up, I'd really say it wasnt good for people that aren't too good at long walking Not much night life didn't find any nightclubs and most bars shut at midnight so don't go to party No beach it's all cobbles Ideal place if your looking just to chill out and unwind Up in the mountains so not very hot weather Average price for beer and food, £2-70 a pint. £5 - 7 a meal, tobacco and spirits cheap Collapse

The pool area is nice but much smaller than the scale you perceive from the hotel pictures. Pool rules are not reinforced despite a very bored lifeguard. For instance a hoard of Russian lads playing with a double inflatable camping bed (which stretched the width of the pool) on several occassions made it much harder for other guests to enjoy themselves. Food is average for this type of place but not good if you are pregnant or veggie. If you are a meat eater, the meat is very low grade. Staff are not rude but will make you feel very socially awkward if you don't buy their overpriced drinks with your dinners. They won't let you have tap water either (even if pregnant). It's buy or go thirsty here. €2 for a half can of pop and €1.70 for a small bottle of water. Restaurant is in a basement and so not a pleasant atmosphere. Clientele range from German, French, Russian, Spanish, English and most seem nice but there is the usual greed and oversized populace that push and shove their way around the buffet, drop food all over and are generally rude to the waiting staff. Rooms match the pictures but balcony is just not nice as the view (sea view) is very much spoilt by the derelict sports ground and buildings right before it where we have seen gangs of young Spanish lads fight and snap parked cars windscreen wipers for no particular reason. You'll get only your room number from the staff on reception who don't seem welcoming and don't tell you anything about the facilities or where they are located. I saw two reception staff being rude to a guest for challenging her bill. They did not seem to handle it well at all. I would not recommend the location as apart from Loro park (which is amazing) the beach is black and dirty and there is nothing to do in Puerto de la Cruz. Go to the south of Tenerife if Tenerife is your chosen destination. Collapse

As a very last minute booking (two days beforehand) we were not expecting much as we looked at other people's reviews. Yes, the hotel did have areas that were a bit tired (the carpet on the stairs leading up to floor four looked worn but we were on floor three and only saw this when waiting on the lift). The main hotel is lovely and we arrived very late at night. We were told to come back twenty minutes later and the chef would have some dinner for us. We were pleasantly surprised to have plates of cold meat, cheese, rolls, fruit and bottles of water. At that late time (after 11.00 p.m.) it was very welcome. My husband celebrated his 65th birthday and, again, we were pleasantly surprised when a waiter arrived with a bottle of wine on ice to help us celebrate. That was a lovely gesture. The hotel overlooks a school football ground and it was lovely to see the schoolchildren being presented with the cups they had won. We were in room 308, and as there is on-street parking in the streets below, it did get a bit noisy late at night but we still managed to sleep. It is in a lovely location, not far from the beach and in the older part of town. There is also a well-kept cemetery just behind the hotel to the left. We would be happy to go back there again, although we always went to a hotel in the newer part of town previously. Collapse
