What would have been an amazing hotel to which I would have given a 5/5 rating was sadly let down by the food and service of the hotel. Don't get me wrong, the hotel was absolutely beautiful, truly stunning with amazing facilities and a breath taking location. However, the food was very disappointing, I highly doubt that apart from the fruit any of the food was fresh, it was all slathered in oil and very few vegetables were offered, both my partner and I felt ill after eating numerous times. The service was very mixed there were a few staff which were absolutely lovely, however many were rude and it was made very evident that unless you were paying for an all inclusive package you weren't really important. A particular member of staff which I would like to complain about was Pablo, he was working on the reception the night before we were leaving, due to the time of year we stayed, much of the hotel was not running, and it was a hit or miss as to whether a machine you were using was working or not, my partner and I had put money in one of the machines near the beginning of the holiday and it didn't work, we went to the reception and they politely refunded us, we tried a different machine on the last night and it didn't work so again we went to the reception, Pablo told us that there was nothing he could do, confused we asked another member of staff (pedro) who was lovely and fixed the issue and instructed Pablo to give us the refund, once Pedro had left Pablo was rude and told us that we were not allowed to use any other machine in the hotel. I would also like to point out that even though we paid for half board, which includes running water in our room, you have to pay 2.30 for a glass of tap water with you meals (which we had also paid for). Over all a mixed experience Collapse

We came for a quiet half term break and we were not disappointed. We booked a 'budget all inclusive' package holiday and we got extremely good value for money. The choice of food was excellent for both of us (my partner doesn't eat meat), the staff in the bars, restaurants and reception could not have been more helpful. The rooms were comfortable, clean and well equipped. The choice of drinks for our deal was exhaustive and the bar areas inside and outside were spacious and comfortable. The entertainment was what you would expect, although the flamenco dance evening was outstanding and exceeded anything I expected. We used the indoor pool 3 times and I was slightly disappointed as I expected it to be a little larger and the shower areas were a little jaded. The outside pools looked amazing but it was not warm enough for us to use them. The hotel was situated at the quiet end of Torremolinos but close enough to the promenade to be able to walk into town. The train station is a 30' walk away but easily reachable by taxi for $5-6. We travelled to Fuengerula for $5.2 return. Trains every 20mins and very clean and safe. Malaga is about $2 return and most major destinations can be reached from there. The staff (rebeca) was very helpful in printing out our return boarding cards and the reception staff helped us book a trip to see Granada and the Alhambra Palace. Would we recommend the hotel and come again? Certainly yes. We intending to go back in October. Sol hotels have a good reputation and any hotel in the Melia group is normally very good. Collapse
Modern, clean hotel with above-average all-inclusive buffet

The hotel is situated directly on the beach, and has the nicest look when compared to other complexes on the boulevard. The lobby looks new and modern, with ample place to sit. The entertainment room/bar is nice as well, although somewhat small for high season. The bar-tenders were extremely hospitable (gracias Pedro!), and drinks were good. There is a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and cocktails that are included in the all-inclusive arrangement (including (but not limited to) mojitos, tequila sunrise, pina coladas, and cheaper brands of wine, beer, whiskey, cava, etc); other drinks can be bought. Each night there was live music and sometimes things like dances etc. The restaurant is okay - somewhat noisey when crowded. The food is above-average for an all-inclusive buffet, with quite a lot of variation, choices, and cooks that are preparing meat on the spot. You won't get tired/bored if you would eat there every day, but don't expect (for every dish) the finest quality. It is more than sufficient though. Largest down-side is that you cannot browse/select drinks yourself, but that there are waiters bringing you drinks. Since the drinks list is not clear on what is included in all-inclusive and what not, we only went for the save options (water and cola) while a bit of variation would be nicer. So clearer menu's would be appreciated. Since we went in winter the indoor swimming pool was opened. Quite small and only suitable for a quick dive, but better than nothing. The outdoor swimming pools looked marvelous; too bad we weren't allowed to swim there in winter even though the weather was good enough for northern-Europeans ;). This might have been communicated better. The room was not large, but definitely not cramped either. Very clean. Balcony had a nice view. Beds were very comfortable, only remark is that for our double room the beds were two single beds on wheels (without brakes), so they would be pushed apart when you would lay in the middle. Very nice TV (although we didn't use it). The bathroom was very spacious, with a shower/bath tub combination and a large mirror and sink. In winter (February) the hotel was still quite busy, but there was ample of space to sit wherever you wanted. In full-season, I wonder if there are enough places along the swimming pools and outside on the (beautiful) terrace. Still, highly recommended hotel, and would return here if we will visit Malaga again: train station is max 20 minute walk, but easy to find and only very slightly uphill. It runs every 20 minutes and brings you to the airport in 10 minutes, and Malaga in 20 mins. Most guests during winter were 50+, but there were several couples (some with kids). The hotel seems very accessible for wheelchairs, with special toilets, ramps everywhere and no height differences/thresholds. I don't know about the rooms, but I imagine them having special rooms. Just got back ! We have stayed At Sol Principe many many times. This hotel in a quiet location overlooking the beach. The staff were always very friendly UP TO NOW! Until a few staff spoilt our 7 day stay at the hotel. The room was clean, the food Basic but very tasty. Incident that happened. On Sunday 5th February 2017 1.45pm , we decided to have a late lunch. entering the dining room, I showed my Room card. There were only a few people left in the dining room. The waiter on the door stopped my colleague and said in a rude manner: “No you cannot come in” you have to change”. My colleague was wearing smart pants and a T shirt. My friend went back and put on a shirt. Isabel Burgos the Guest Relations Manager walked into the dining room with the Sub.Manager, I talked to her and said I was not happy that we were spoken to so rudely. I also mentioned that during the week stay, we could not get the table we wanted near the food servers. Each time when we entered the dining room 2 tables were pushed together and with 2 bottles of wine and 2 bottles water on the table. The waiter said the table/s were RESERVED? All week guests wanted to sit at those tables and were REFUSED by the waiters? I questioned why the table was reserved as every time in past visits at Sol Principe tables were never reserved! Ms. Burgos said “No were never reseved” That same evening,Sunday 5th February evening meal at 6.30 pm when the dining room opened, we were the first customers in the dining room. I made my way to the mentioned table/s. To our surprise the table was Reserved again with wine and water placed on it. At that exact moment Miss Burgos walked into the dining room. I said “ Sorry I prove my case. This afternoon you said the tables were never reserved”. “No it is” Miss Burgos replied “NO that table is reserved” Would you like to sit somewhere els? I replied “We would like to sit at that table” She WAS NOT HAPPY, but quickly removed the wine and water. The Head waiter came across to our table.. hurriedly and argued with Ms. Borgus about the situation. I/we always try to sit nearer to where the food is served. ( I have walking difficulty due to an foot/leg operation)The whole experience left me feel very very angry. I could hardly eat my food. This incident could have been avoided! It spoilt the restful week we had stayed at Sol Principe.Next Day 06/01/17 at 10am, I asked for a meeting with Director Jose Fermin Gomez Escalona. I discussed with him what happened. The Director agreed, that at No stage are tables ever reserved, especially when the hotel is full ! 06/01/17 afternoon,we left for Malaga Airport to return to the U.K. During 2016,I had already made future reservations for 2018 and 2019 with Sol Principe reservations department. We travel extensively during each year as frequent flyers. Our next Travel destinations: Amsterdam, Thessaloniki, Malaga, Madrid,Las Palmas and other countries..Hospitality industry cannot afford to upset their valued customers. Collapse

We have been staying at this hotel for 8 or 9 years last time in October 2016 and are booked to travel next month. The hotel over the last couple of years has been closed over the winter period for refurbishment which parts of the hotel were beginning to look dated and tired. The public areas has all been refreshed in lighter colours and new furniture. Not a fan of the new furniture but looked good. Our room however was one with the refurbishment was disappointing. New flat screen TV. The rest of the décor was a bodged job. Mirror hung higher to avoid the old holes no good to me as I'm not 7feet tall!. We're booked in for the beginning of March and are preparing to go and see what else might be on offer. We love the grounds, the swimming, position of the hotel on the promenade and easy access if you want to do more and just enough entertainment! Collapse
