This hotel overall is very good, especially for families. The hotel is very clean and kept clean every day,the pools are unreal, the facilities are great,we stayed b&b and the breakfast was great, the staff were helpful and the entertainment at night was fantastic. I only have a couple of negatives and they are 1 the kids mini disco is no where near as good as most of the other places I've visited, it last for about half hour/40mins they dance to about 4 songs and play 1 game and it's a bit erratic my kids preferred to play on the park or arcades and the staffs English wasn't great at all, 2nd and this is probably the worst is the sun bed problem around the pool, the hotel is huge so there are lots of people after the first day I realised I had to set my alarm to get a place around the pool because even though the beds are locked until 9am people use plastic chairs to reserve there place from about 7am. They say they remove towels if you reserve a place, no they don't at all they have one guy that walks around at about 10am and leaves a note if your not there within an hour of him leaving his warning your towels are removed but everyone is by there beds by then. It's an absolute joke I had to set my alarm on my holiday. They need to create more area around the main pool there's no where near enough space for all the guests. Overall it was a good holiday. Stayed in the Sol Principe for 10 days in early - mid July. The hotel itself is very clean, there is an abundance of facilities for adults and children alike. It's in a lovely quieter area of Torremolinos. We went half board as we got a great deal, but probably only used it a handful of days, the dining room was too loud and busy for us but the food was lovely, there was a great selection and no waiting for tables - we just preferred to dine in the restaurants along the beach. If I were to stay again I would only go B & B. There are two pools, it was impossible to get sunbeds in the main pool area they are reserved at the crack of dawn but there is no problem with the smaller pool along the beachside of the hotel and personally, I preferred this pool anyway as it is quieter. The only fault I found was with the Kids Club, we were massively, massively disappointed in it and in the Hotels response, or lack thereof, to our complaints about it. We found the staff did not speak English to the children, I complained about this twice, nothing changed after the 1st occasion which we were subsequently told was because they noted our room number incorrectly, on the 2nd occasion having found my daughter in floods of tears alone in the Kids Club I asked to speak with a Manager who profusely denied all of the issues I brought to his attention, as did the staff from the kids club - they all insisted that they do speak English to the children, having followed them on a treasure hunt for 15 -20 minutes and observed them on several different occasions (not just at drop off or pick up times) I did not hear them utter a word of English when there were always at least a handful of English speaking children at the club. The Manager advised me that at most 15% of their guests at the time we were there (mid July) were from Ireland or the UK so this would mean, that 85% of the children in the Club do not have English as their first language, obviously I expected the staff to speak mainly in Spanish, but I did anticipate that the kids club would cater for the children who had no Spanish and repeat their instructions in English. They don't. I would definitely consider staying in the hotel again but would not leave my daughter in the kids club, in addition to the language issue, a lot of their activities were water based, my daughter is 5 and very tall for her age but could not stand in the swimming pool they take them to so could not join in and was left sitting on the side alone with the 2/3 other children her age - again the Manager profusely denied this and told me the pool was not too deep for a 5 year old but it most definitely is not possible for a child of 5 or 6 to stand in the water they take them to, I'm not sure why the man I spoke with thought he knew more about my daughter than I did, he was quite certain that the issue was with my daughter as opposed to the kids club which was obviously fairly offensive. She has attended lots of kids clubs in the past and there has never been a problem - The experience I had with the Manager was so poor that I intend to write to the Hotel Group about it - we are not liars, neither were the families around the pool that we spoke to who also experienced this issue - there is little or no english spoken in the Childrens Club. To it's credit, she took part in the Lion King Show twice and very much enjoyed it, despite them not explaining anything to her in English. She also loved the go carts, the splash park and the mini arcade games. I was told that nobody else ever had this issue however I see a recent trip advisor reviewer reported the same issue and as already mentioned, we spoke to several families at the pool whose children only went to the club once because of this. It's a shame that the other families didn't report the problem to management. Despite the issue we had, which did upset us quite a lot, I would still recommend the hotel, it's in a lovely area, lovely fish restaurants along the beach and very clean. With the exception of the manager I dealt with, I found all of the other staff very friendly and helpful. I'd highly recommend hiring a bali bed while there too. Collapse

This was our second holiday at the Sol Principe hotel in Torremolinos and it felt like going home. Although our side sea view was not quite as good as last time (where we were on a higher floor), the hotel room on the second floor was clean and comfortable. My bed was definitely more comfortable this time as we had two single beds and not a small double bed which bowed in the middle (like last time). The only down point was that our 7 year old's daughters additional single bed only just fitted next to our beds, but with no leg space in-between so I felt crammed in as I was in the middle between my partner and my daughter. But this was better than having our daughters bed at the foot of the bed, which is the way the room was set out originally. The food, entertainment and lagoon style swimming pools at the back of the hotel were great. My daughter also enjoyed the splash park (you have to wear shoes) and said it was 'amazing', even though the slides were a bit small and the bigger slide was better in the little pool (like it was last time) in my opinion (but my daughter didn't remember). Personally, I was disappointed that the little swimming pool had been changed. My daughter and I had been looking forward to swimming around the little island again, but it was not to be…. The pool had been levelled off (so that there was no deep end) and even made smaller and I ‘m guessing that this was to make more of a stage area for the alternative (non-theatrical) evening entertainment. My daughter and I enjoyed the Mamma Mia and Lion King shows once again in the outside theatre by the lagoon pools, and my partner enjoyed the free Wifi (not being a fan of drama). Also like last time (in 2015) the choice of ice lollies in the lagoon pool bar was disappointing. Lime ice lollies were advertised, but you could only get strawberry or tropical flavours – neither of which I like, so I had to get chocolate based ones, which were not really what I wanted in the heat, but unlike last time, I couldn’t be bothered to go to the kiosk outside as I had an injured left foot this time, and it would have taken too much effort, especially as we favoured the lagoon pools this time and not the little pool. We got pool side beds on 6 of the 7 days we were there, but there was a lot of towel depositing early in the mornings by others, which I hate. I saw notices being put on beds to say that it wasn’t allowed, but nothing more was done about it as far as I could see. We were once asked to move our sunbeds because of health and safety, but this was okay as better positions were found for us by the pool staff. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and Torremolinos as a holiday destination and I will definitely return yet again in the future. Collapse

I was not sure what to expect as this was my first visit to the Costa del Sol. The Sol Principe was busy and no frills, and was not outstanding in any way but was not terrible either. The staff were lovely, that did stand out, so if friendly service is important to you then you should be happy with this. The main pool area was nice but can get crowded and it tucked away in amongst high rises of hotel rooms. The bar has a bleak area overlooking the sea which is better than sitting inside the bar with its non descriptor, non offensive decor. Rooms were of reasonable size and clean and comfortable. I had good views up the beach towards Malaga. There is a small gym with barely adequate equipment. The hotel is reasonably located with a 10 minute walk to get to Torremelinos town centre. Food was average but plentiful. Collapse
