We arrived back at this clean and tidy hotel after being impressed back in 2011. We asked again for room 211, but were late booking and instead ended up in room 134 which was nearer the road, but despite fears wasn't noisy. The room was nicely large for a myself and wife. The room door lock was temperamental but maintenance menr Benito initially and later Mendez did a good job in fixing the problem and generally appeared within minutes of us contacting Reception. Our room did have a visit from 2-3 large bugs on the room floor but lets face it we are in a totally different climate to West Yorkshire. The lady cleaner who visited the room was very good and always had a smile and took the time to clean all of the floor so we made sure she got a tip. In the Restaurant two ladies stood out as outstanding, Maria and Yardley they were constantly active and busy keeping the tables clean from used crockery but also all the time carrying a pleasant smile and having a great attitude, the older male restaurant staff were not as active but non the less acceptable. If you are on a budget hiriing a small car from reception for 3 days can cost 155Euros, we went downhill 200 meters on the quiet road outside of the Hotel entrance to a small Car Hire shop where we hired a Fiat Panda with full insurance included for 66Euros, and despite it having done 60,000 miles it got the job done and was easily good enough to despatch the dreaded road to Masca on one of the days. The Hotel has a free bus regularly down in to PdelaCruz but if you want to walk seek out the short cut round the back of the hotel which takes you through some quiet parkland and your there in 20-25minutes......steep walk back but still only 30 minutes for the averagely fit person. We are generally not ones for Hotel entertainment but we did see the Beatles tribute act and they were a real hoot, the Spano-Liverpudlian accents in between songs were unintentionally funny...if they came on at 9pm instead of 9:30 more people would probably stay to watch the whole act.. The reception staff could smile a bit more as its possible to be professional and pleasant at the same time but otherwise a good stay for the middle aged couple that we are....many thanks Sol Parque...we will be back. Sorry to read the poor reviews . we stayed for the last 2 weeks in october and can only think the people who wrote them didnt stay at the same hotel we did. Found the staff very pleasant, polite and helpful. An initial room problem was rapidly sorted out by the staff in reception in a professional manner, Domestic staff were hard working and cheerful and cleaning of the room was to a high standard.Restaurant staff were similarly very cheerful and efficient. Food at both breakfast and evening meals was varied , fresh and usually very well cooked and tasty. Fish and local dishes always on offer as well as various joints and grills etc. etc. People who moan about the food clearly very fussy or not used to decent fresh food. Wide Choice of salads, vegetables and desserts. Regarding the setting and location again cant understand the negative reviews. The hotel gardens are lovely and well kept, with the presence of the atmospheric" English library" in the grounds a real hidden gem and a vey special place to have a proper cup of tea and a biscuit after browsing the shelves. As for getting into town there is a free bus running weekdays but i would recommend leaving the hotel by the gate near the restaurant( opened by key card) and walking down through Taoro park. Stop off at the terrace bar or the water gardens on the way down for a special treat views amazing and very chilled out places for a drink. Would urge people to go to enjoy themselves and explore rather than going looking for things to moan about, Collapse

Spacious clean room, comfortable beds. Room cleaning was made every day. Beautiful territory with green garden all around. Quite dissapointed with the hotel. It needs renovation - It's quite nice outside but not so good inside. Old furniture and old-style decorated rooms were not as it looks like on a photo. Smell in the building we lived in was like from an elderly care home. Food had lack of taste, really not good as we expected. It will sound like - lot of food but nothing to eat... Collapse

As others have said the hotel grounds and pool area are really nice be aware a lot of the sunbeds are broken and do not stay upright. We stayed on 2nd floor room 233 which had a terrace overlooking a nice little square of vegetation but it saw no sun throughout the day. The room was clean and big with flat screen TV that only had 2 news stations in English plus a Disney Channel. Thankfully the TV is modern enough to take a usb stick so we could at least watch some films we had downloaded and listen to some music. The toilet leaked into the bowl which could be heard in the main room at night if you didn't keep the doors in between closed so not a major problem, the shower worked ok but not much power to it. There was a hairdryer in the bathroom. We booked including breakfast which was just as well as there are no alternatives in close proximity to the hotel. We had an evening meal only on our first night which was ok, eat as much as you like for 40Euros a head. Rest of the week we ate in town. It's a long walk down to the town, we followed the road down which takes in most of the grimier side of Puerto de la Cruz, I think there is an alternative route down through a park but the staff spoke little English so didn't bother asking, looking on google maps the only park showed it as a much longer route down. You'll need a taxi back unless you bring your climbing gear and I'm fairly fit! The taxi is about 4Euros but we just gave them a fiver each time. The staff were generally ok, didn't really deal with them much but it took me about 5 mins to explain to the barman I wanted a glass of rose! Only the pool barmaid spoke any kind of English. The pool attendant seemed to be the only staff member that actually had a smile for the guests. Overall not bad but could be so much better, it's definitely a hotel geared towards the German guests and having no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms is just ridiculous for a supposed 4* hotel Collapse
Horrendous! Avoid at all costs!

On arriving it is obvious that the gardens and pool area is well kept. They are beautiful. The only real positive. Unfortunately it went down hill from there. The hotel is classed as 4*... This is a 2*, 3* at best. On check in we were charged €41 for a safe in our room for 2 weeks. You only get €5 back on checkout, and you need to ask reception for this. This should be free like all other hotels we have stayed in. We stayed in B6, which over looks a main road, especially noisy on a night. The room is basic, no tea or coffee facilities. The bathroom is ridiculous, mould on the ceiling and around the bath. One night we got in and the shower was crawling with ants, despite the room being "cleaned". 5 days later the squished ants were still on the shower tiles, so the shower hadn't been cleaned since. No storage facilities in the bathroom. We booked a double bed, and ended up with two singles pushed together. The beds are hard and creaky and on several occasions covered in ants aswell. We have had several technical issues with our room, a broken wall socket and the lock on our door is tempermental to say the least and still hasn't been resolved despite several attempts. We have also fixed the flush on the toilet ourselves... Three times. We were woken at 8am by staff lugging furniture around in other rooms and outside, not fantastic if your wanting a lie in. Oh and to top it off we've also had lizards in the room that we couldn't catch. Next onto the lack of customer service. Apart from the short dark haired woman in the bar the rest of the staff might as well be sacked. Not one of them has a smile on their face, they all look miserable. A few barely said thankyou and on one occasion we were made to carry our own hot food/plates to our table from the pool bar instead of the table service usually on offer. On this occasion, the blonde lady on the pool bar spent her time stroking a stray cat which was on the serving counter. Then proceeded to serve drinks without washing her hands or wiping the counter which I am guessing would go against food hygiene regulations. The breakfast buffet is ok. Plenty of choice. However on reserving the room i emailed Melia hotels and the Manager of Sol Parque San Antonio explaining that i have Coeliac Disease, and therefore cannot eat Gluten. On both occasions i was assured it was fine and that everything was taken care of. On the first morning it took me asking three different members of staff about gluten free options as none of them had any idea. Very minimal gluten free options available. On the night time, the evening dinner buffet is €14.95 each and your expected to pay extra for water/drinks and the prices of drinks are very steep. Everytime we approached reception to try sort something or complain, they were barely helpful, to the point we gave up. I have just spoken to the manager again on checkout who basically shrugged his shoulders and couldn't care. Brilliant service from the manager. If we had the spare ££ we would have checked out early and continued the holiday at another hotel. We will not be visiting Sol Parque San Antonio again and will never recommended it. Collapse
