I booked a last minute trip to Tenerife for a five night break and happily the spot in the North of the Island was lush, green and very Spanish. An hour's transfer from the airport we arrived at a very plush looking hotel set in botanical gardens and proceeded to the Reception where our first hiccup occurred. The rather grumpy chap at front desk couldn't find our booking & when he eventually did with no apology, informed us that we couldn't check in until 3pm. We hadn't been made aware of this at booking. It was 1.30pm and we had been on the go since 4am! We wanted to dump our bags and get in the pool! He informed us we could wait in the bar area and come back "around 3pm". But we weren't shown where to go! The reception staff by and large are rather rude and unwelcoming. So wait we did - We had a drink in the outside bar and ordered pizza, which at €6 was pleasant enough. The bar staff by complete comparison to the reception staff are a delight! Special mentions to Pedro, Jeny & David. Eventually we gained access to our room and to be honest we were slightly disappointed. The bathroom was a good size and had a bath and a powerful shower and there were good views of Teide whilst showering! Unfortunately the actual sleeping area was quite dated and tired and not overly large. The balcony was a good size though. Everything was very clean. The AC unit was good. Bit puzzled by the addition of two picture hooks above the bed but no pictures? The room just lacked any kind of panache. But it was clean and functional. It appears that the hotel is going through a steady revamp as we saw a room with a garden terrace and it was huge and freshly decorated with a modern bathroom. The hotel itself is set within beautiful botanical gardens and it's really very pretty. The pool is large and never overcrowded. Sun loungers were always accessible. We found the lack of poolside music a bit of a shame however. Mixed ages of people there so we thought there might be a bit of liveliness. It was very calm and quiet, which was actually rather nice. There was entertainment every night, it's your usual cheesy music acts, but with a bit of Sangria inside you it can be quite good fun! We stayed half board and the food was really really good. Lots of choice and fresh and tasty. Very happy with what was on offer. We booked a half day trip to Teide through Thomson and it cost £40 - Not really worth it as you are travelling for two hours there and back and then basically whilst those who want to pay £30 each to go up in the cable cars, you have to wait around and go on a little half hour tour! It was super hot up there too. Do wander down into the town and get yourself into a Bar where the locals eat and drink. It's a pretty little town but has its share of smart shops too. Food is well priced in the town and the churros are a must! Also try a lovely little brandy coffee called Carajillo. Great for perking up after a hangover! It's always a good idea to get a cab back up the hill though for €4. Taxis are cheap and always available. All in all a lovely town away from all the commercial aspects of those in the South. Very Spanish. Very clean. Quite Bohemian too. I would return and if the rooms were updated would consider this hotel again too. Collapse

I have just got back and it was like a time warp, I last went here in 1984 and not much has changed. The sun beds are old some new ones but most are broken. We went as a family of 4 we did get adjoining rooms but they were the same fixtures as 1984 even the hair dryer should be in a museum. The food and the service by the staff was very good the reception staff not to good . The pool step's are a joke they are very narrow made of aluminum, and if you have trouble with your feet or your of a bigger size you will have trouble getting out of the pool. the pool is over 6ft deep all around. the kids area is ok. They look like they are up grading some of the rooms, but not all. They do have evening entertainment by the pool, singers and bands and an entertainer for the kids. There is a nice walk down to town if you go around the back pass the fitness park and then down the steps, super view then down pass the waterfall and you come out in the middle of the town. You can get a free bus in the morning and get a cab back it only cost's 4 euros and take about 4 minutes or less. You get a small fridge. There are no machines to buy a cold drink for or buy a small snack, crisps, chocolate, ect. We had breakfast at the hotel every morning buffet but when we went out for the day like to the water park we got back at 19.30 so we had dinner buffet at the hotel @15 euros per head and drinks are extra but it is good. Prior to booking a hotel I place a lot of reliance on Trip Advisor reviews but admittedly I don't contribute as much as I should. However, in the case of Parque San Antonio I feel compelled to as I simply can't understand the bad reviews as for the price this hotel is brilliant. My girlfriend and I have just got back from ten days at the hotel and we loved it. We booked our holiday via On The Beach and the vast majority of the cost consisted of the flights so we were a bit worried that the hotel was 'too cheap'. After a 1 hour 15 min transfer we pulled up the hotel and were pleasantly surprised. It looked just like the pictures from the online brochure and our room (1101) was on the ground floor and was modern. The only bad points were that it didn't have coffee making facilities but there was a machine by the entrance to our block where you could buy decent coffee for 1 euro. Also our double room was made up of two single beds pushed together but I actually preferred that as meant I could sleep without my partner stealing the covers from me. The air con was baltic and the rooms were cleaned every day. The breakfast was very, very good with a wide selection of hot and cold items. There were plenty of sun beds by the pool and it was quite quiet during the day (I would have perhaps preferred there to be some music). The only negative I would have is that the pool bar staff were slightly surly (other than the other guy) which is unusual as I usually build a rapport with them so I just stopped tipping them as much. The hotel is in a great location a nice 10 min stroll downhill to the main port town where there some amazing restaurants which I will review separately but yes a taxi back home to the hotel is a must and cost 4 euros although we always gave 5 euros and let them keep the change. In brief, I had very low expectations for this hotel but it really is very good. In fact, my girlfriend and I will likely go back next year! Collapse

My wife and I spent two weeks in this Hotel in Mid July and apart from the average quality food and very similar acts on every night for entertaining the guests we enjoyed our stay there. The staff are courteous and professional (especially Pedro at the pool bar who's a lovely chap). The rooms were cleaned every day without fail and we always found sun beds despite the usual crowd putting towels down at 0730. We rarely had to queue for food or wait to be served drinks in the dining rooms. I thought the safe charges were a bit steep (45 Euro for two weeks) but I have paid more at other hotels if I'm honest. Both my wife and I are able bodied but I would imagine a disabled person might struggle to get round this complex and it's a good 15- 20 minutes to walk into town. Add another 10 minutes on to the time if you're walking from town to the hotel as it's all uphill. There is a free shuttle bus and taxis are relatively cheap at around 3 1/2 Euro. The grounds to the hotel are lovely and covered in tropical plants. There are no Ironing facilities in the hotel despite it having a self service laundry. I did however manage to borrow an iron from the housekeeping staff, There are also no tea or coffee facilities in the rooms. Prices weren't too bad. 3.50 for a pint. 5 for a vodka and coke. 10.5 for a bottle of Cava. Cocktails around 5. Coffee around 2. The bar food wasn't bad too. Be aware that even if you are half board you will be required to pay for drinks at dinner. Water is around 1.70 for a small bottle. All in all we enjoyed our time there as we were looking for a nice quiet place to relax. I wouldn't take any children there though as there wasn't really anything for them to do. I'd probably visit again if it wasn't for the 1 1/2 hour journey to and from the South Airport . Thank you to all the staff who looked after us.You just might see us again in the future. Collapse
