We are a couple from Finland, stayed in this hotel for the second time, this time two nights, arrived at the hotel early, around 1000 hrs., still got the fantastic room (adin pjat adin, so 515) immediatelly, what a room with a separate living room, bedroom, toilet, shower and a bath (even a fully equipped kitchen-which we did not use due to the massive choice of restaurants in the city), two flat screen TV:s, and free use of the spa! And great breakfast, friendly and helpfull staff (speaking english well, and some even Finnish). Room keeping and the service at the lobby bar was also great. And the location of the hotel... that`s why five stars... and will get back again! Collapse

I used to stat in this hotel three previous visits in Spb, and this was one of the most recommended hotel due to good quality of service and excellent spa. Check-in: After a morning arrival I headed to a hotel. It was around 09:00 when Inarrived. At the Desk, I submitted my docs and asked if the early check-in was available. The Receptionist told that the room was available for an early check-in and it made me feel so happy; however, she said that 50% of the first night rate should be paid to get that room sooner than 12:00 which I believe might be a good business practice but it is not something that a loyal customer would expect from a hotel that you visit 4th time in two years. Spa: All good, same old spa that needs some renovation Bar at the Spa area: They should be more customer friendly, bcs it is not very funny when the bartender cannot start preparing your order before you pay them; on the other hand going around the spa with money is not convenient as well. I believe I would not stay at this Hotel anymore and if you like spa, maybe you should consider going there once or twoce by paying admittance fee (1500 rur per person or so) and stay at different location. I stayed in this hotel in the end of September. As someone already mentioned, 5 stars is really a joke. Let's start with the good things: Room was beautiful and spa is included in the room rate, that's a plus. Dans le Noir restaurant is an unforgettable experience. WiFi works very well and they have computers for customers' use. Good things, but the bad ones make your stay rather bad. The worst: cleaning. When we arrived, the room was very dirty and there were hair on the floor both in room and in shower. Only one towel for two people. Be prepared that the cleaning may occur even at 7 pm in the evening! I stayed there with my wife and we left the hotel around 10am, spent the whole day in the city and returned around 6.30, tired of walking and sightseeing. Of course we thought that cleaning would have been already made and we could relax in the room a little bit before our reservation to Dans le Noir. We were wrong - the cleaning lady came to our room at 7 pm and didn't even knock the door! Just entered the room without a warning. Absolutely not the kind of behaviour you would expect to get in a five star hotel. On the next day we didn't get cleaning at all. Second con: the customer service in the Spanish restaurant and lobby is horrible, almost non-existent. Rude, slow-working staff who have no motivation to serve foreigners. They probably have no idea how good amount of money they could get from foreigners now since foreigners have much more money to spend because of exchange rates (RUB). Night shift receptionists were more concentrated on joking with each other than serving customers - also a thing you would not expect in a five star hotel. However during the daytime there was a really friendly Scandinavian trainee who spoke very good English. Also the concierge Svetlana was very helpful and professional about St. Petersburg, thanks to her we really got the best of our holiday and saw great places. All in all: if you find a great deal, choose this hotel. With their usual rates, don't bother - there are much better hotels nearby. Collapse
Spa and hotel

If you want to combine relaxing spa to the city trip, this is the place. Nice and tidy rooms, big breakfast. and the place's real specialty is dining in the dark, Dans le Noir restaurant. Book it in advanced if you want to get there.

The hotel is a resort and spa so you should expect a large pool and a humongous gym with a nice spa. Considering that almost all other hotels in Saint Petersburg don’t have a pool or gym or have a very small one, this is thumbs up for the place. The hotel building from the outside does not resemble a five-star property and if you are not acquainted with the place beforehand or haven’t seen pictures of it, you would not realize you have arrived at your destination. The lobby and reception desk are also a bit off. They by no means imply five star quality; nonetheless, after a couple of nights of stay you get used to that. The rooms are good enough especially if you get street view. The bed is comfortable and amenities are acceptable. The best part is the restaurant and bar area, nicely decorated with architecture to give a sense of the city’s culture and architectural design. The hotel boasts one of the world’s very few dark restaurant which I can’t persuade you enough to dine there if you ever stay at the Solo Sokos Palace Bridge. But beware you need to make reservations in advance and be there 30 minutes before the time of your reservation. The breakfast buffet was extended enough and I especially liked the grilled salmon, on the other hand, the lunch buffet failed to reach my expectations. The staff were helpful and the receptionists, especially the guys, were exceptionally good. One very disappointing experience during our stay was that upon arrival there was no one to help us with our luggage up the many stairs to the lobby (see picture). About the location: Although it is close to attractions such as Hermitage and Nevsky Street is 10 minute walk away, the hotel is on Vasilyevsky Island meaning you won't have access to it after the bridges open at around 1:30 am and you would have to wait for them to close to get across to the island. However, if you cross the bridges in time, it would be nice to wait and watch the bridges open. Overall, I can't say it was my best stay, but I am not unhappy about the whole experience. I could say it was mostly average in all aspects for a five star hotel. Collapse
