Our flight got cancelled and we were stranded in Amsterdam. We got lucky to find this place. It is very well styled and decorated, and in a brilliant location. A super comfortable bed and lots of modern touches make the rooms a very nice place to be. The shower is amazing and the products supplied are very nice. Robes, slippers, an actual hair dryer, iron and ironing board make you feel looked after. There’s plenty of options for food in the area and good access to transport. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A couple of minor things that would’ve made it perfect: - more hooks: there’s nowhere to hang your towel in the bathroom to dry out. - information: instructions on how to work the fancy lights and what is and isn’t complimentary would be appreciated. - notice: there were works going on in the hotel and very close to our room, but we weren’t told and caught unawares by the banging in the morning. Having searched for a reasonably priced but comfortable Amsterdam hotel as a surprise weekend away for my daughter's birthday, I came across the Sir Albert Hotel and decided to book it. It was the right decision! I contacted the hotel in advance to advise it was my daughter's birthday, and that we would be arriving mid morning, so could we at least leave our bags before heading out for the day. Of course, came the reply. Our flight from Glasgow was delayed by an hour due to fog, and when we arrived at Amsterdam it was freezing, so we wrapped up and headed in from Schipol, found the tram at Central Station, and got to the hotel just before 11am where we were met with a warm welcome and a lovely cup of coffee while we checked in. Our room was ready so we were shown up, and found a lovely message and a set of balloons on the bed for my daughter (she is 22 but still loved them!). The room was bigger than I expected based on the reviews I had seen, and well equipped with lovely toiletries, lovely comfortable beds and great pillows!. The shower room had a lovely waterfall shower, which was excellent. The only slight niggle I would have is that the toilet door was a swing door with no seal, so if you weren't close with your room mate it could be quite awkward! We hadn't booked breakfasts for our trip, but it looked fabulous so we booked it for our two subsequent mornings. We also booked some trips through the reception staff who couldn't do enough for us. There is a little, welcoming lobby area, set out as a cosy study with comfortable chairs and a lovely fire to sit beside - not at all like your usual hotel lobbies! The hotel itself is only about a ten minute walk from the museums, and a further 5 minute walk to the main restaurant area, so we had plenty to do and see. We booked the open top canal tour of the water light art - the only downside of our trip to be honest - we were promised a hot drink which didn't materialise, and the guide had obviously only just learnt the route and the various art installations and didn't give us any additional information around where we were through the trip so I wouldn't recommend using them (Blue Boat). After a drink and a nice meal to warm up, we headed back to the hotel and had a glass of wine in the study area. After a great night's sleep we headed down for breakfast, which on Sundays is served until 11am, however it was extremely busy, and we were asked to sit at the bar area while we waited for a table. It was obvious that there wasn't going to be one for some time, and so we asked if we could just eat at the bar (as other people were doing) and were told that was fine, however no-one then set us a place, or gave us information around the options for breakfast, so we found our own cutlery, and made use of the buffet. The breakfast was great, and most of the staff, although exceptionally busy, were helpful. We headed out again for the day, and visited the Anne Frank museum which was a great experience (note you need to book online in advance at the moment), and then had a wander through the shops, stopping for coffee on the way. After a rest back at the hotel we headed back out for dinner and drinks, and then back to crash for the night! Breakfast the next day was much quieter, and we were offered individual cooked items from a menu as well as the buffet - it was at that point we realised we should have been offered that before. The food again was lovely, and we both ate extremely well, setting ourselves up for the day. On checking out I mentioned the breakfast, and the receptionist was most apologetic and took our previous glasses of wine off the bill. We left our cases and headed to the MOCO for the Banksy exhibition, and the the Heineken Experience, returning to the hotel late afternoon to collect our bags. We decided to have another couple of glasses of wine there before finally departing for home. Overall, a lovely hotel, nice comfortable room, but what really made it was the staff. Every member of staff was friendly, took time to ask how our day had been, and offer advice and assistance. I would definitely go back! Collapse

This is one of the most original hotels I have stayed in, strong music theme throughout, rooms are small but very well decorated and organised, there is a bar/restaurant downstairs that is open 24/7 with live music on weekends. It’s just outside of Amsterdam and you need to take a boat to reach the city but boats leave every 10min as 24/7 so really convenient. If you’re with kids and want to stay away from all the drunks and less nicer characters in Amsterdam then this place is just perfect Collapse

Sir Albert is my favourite hotel in Amsterdam. The design aspect of the hotel, the smell inside, the rooms I could go on. My last booking was in March 2017 but I've been after this date with friends as they've booked. This hotel is the one we stay at and have done so for the past 3 years! The staff are super friendly and the check is always really quick and easy. You'll always be greeted with a beverage and some sweets. You'll then be taken to your room. The rooms have similar interior design. The beds are centred with a desk on the end usually and the small amenities around the room. The small quote stuck onto the mirror is a cute touch. Side note.... the bed is UNBELIEVABLY COMFORTABLE!!! I've had a time where I wasn't completely happy with my room and the team were happy to switch my room! The staff were super helpful with this request There is a coffee machine for the morning espresso. Food in the hotel that I've experienced has been amazing. Izakaya asian restaurant was great. We stayed over a Sunday and we managed to go to the Sunday brunch. Room service from the The Butcher Burger is always a pleasure. I haven't had the breakfast but judging on the entire hotel I can imagine it being amazing. The lobby area is very comfortable with a small fire place and comfy sofas. Even if you wanted to sit in the lobby to read it's a great ambiance. I can imagine in the evening it's not quite so quiet from the bustle of the restaurant just opposite Anything you need help with the staff are usually amazing. I love art and restaurants so my friends and I always come to Amsterdam for both work and pleasure. When ever we ask for advice the team are always on hand for new spots to visit! Sir Albert is always my place for us to stay. Collapse
