Great service - room not so impressive

Service in this hotel is exceptional - very attentive staff where nothing is too difficult. Really nice feel to the place although the rooms were not exceptional for the price but nonetheless were acceptable. The general decor was very nice though..!

Very poor security at the hotel. I stayed at this hotel for a 2nd time sadly and this time I was robbed my jewelries which were in my suitcase. This roberry was taken very lighly by the staff and no real efforts taken to attend to the case. Highly do not recommend as very low security and I doubt the theft was managed by their own house keeping as they were unable to confirm otherwise. Very poor service and complete lack of safety and security!!! Collapse

Our high expectations for this hotel after reading numerous reviews were dampened the moment we stepped into our room. The hotel itself is quite beautiful, a little dark, but trendy, boutique-style and modern. There is also a lovely lounge area and up-market restaurant on the ground floor. Upon arrival, we were offered a choice of two rooms, one on the first floor over-looking the canal and one on the top floor with ‘fantastic views of the city and even of the water’. We double-checked with the reception staff that both offered rooms were the category we had booked. We chose the top floor room (no. 431) because we are light sleepers and were worried about the noise. Unfortunately this was not a good choice (note to self: if you have the choice of two rooms, ask to see both before deciding). We had booked the Sir DeLuxe double. When we entered the room after a long day exploring Amsterdam we found it to be a small attic room with a roof-window. Far too small in comparison to any other 4* hotels we have stayed in, especially when ‘extra space’ for this category is listed on their website. For the ‘views’ you had to squeeze behind the bed and stand on your tip toes or crawl on top of the bed to get a peek out of the roof-top window. And there was no water view, as promised. Also, we expected a King-Size bed as confirmed in our booking. We didn’t have a measuring tape with us otherwise we would have measured – but we are almost certain that our bed was Queen-Size. We have a king-Size at home, so this feature is one we definitely noticed. Bathroom: there is none. From the entrance you walk through the wash station, which is basically just a small basin set on a small cabinet so not much room for your personal belongings. The WC is a tiny, separate cubicle as is the shower room (no bath tub) – although this was spacious enough. The soap and shampoo fixtures need tightening. The room temperature was set at 22°C and had to be maximized daily when returning to the room in order to gain a comfortable temperature for the evening. This is done solely through the air-conditioning, and only works when you are there and your key-card is ‘plugged’ in. The floor remains cold. The ‘fluffy bathrobes and comfortable slippers’ are standard; nothing more, nothing less – if you want something special check out the bathrobes and slippers at the 4* QF Hotel in Dresden! Special lighting with dimming controls: we missed having low bedside lighting; although you can have reading lights as spots above you, we found them to be too bright. So you choose the other option, but this comes with the lighting from the entrance/washing area (which you are lying opposite to), and which cannot be turned off separately. Either options are too bright if you need to use the bathroom at night and want the way lit. When we asked where we would sit if we were to order room-service, we were told by the unsympathetic staff at reception and in quite a rude tone that we could sit where we find space (!). The room lacked a seating area. Yes there is a small desk, with one small desk chair, but we were two. Our room must have been located next to a service-lift or similar, because at one point there was such a noise just outside the room, we were not sure if someone was trying to break in – we nearly called the reception, but then the noise stopped again. The coffee machine took a while for us to guess its functioning mode – we found in the end, that we were just pushing the button too hard! You can rent the hotel-owned bicycles. Upon leaving, we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay or if we will come back. Nor were we thanked or wished a pleasant journey home. Overall disappointed and possibly one of the more negative 4* experiences we have had. We will not return nor will we recommend this hotel to our friends or family. Collapse

The Sir Albert is ideally located, has a fantastic staff, creative and delicious food in the restaurant, Izakaya and never fails to impress in general. The rooms are well-equipped and very comfortable.
