Great location but room and beds could have been better.

First impression: we walked in and stopped near the desk with computers that looked like reception. We could have been waiting there forever, turns out reception is around the corner, near the other entrance. They have only valet parking so if you don't want that you've got to find parking downtown Ottawa. I was surprised with the hole under our room door (see pics). We could hear and smell everything from the hall. Beds are supposed to be for two people but the impression is that they were not large enough. Overall: not sure it's worth the price. Collapse

If you're looking for a Fairmont or Westin, this is not you're type of property. Room was good, service acceptable for the type of hotel, generally clean and nice. The elevators are under construction right now, so there are extended waiting times. The food and service in the Sheraton club is really nice. Good selections and great service! Can order wine and other alcohol for a cost and the room so comfortable. Only a couple blocks away from Parliament Hill, the location is great for people traveling for business and for pleasure travelers on vacation. You can walk to Byward Market and all the usual attractions and museums. I would stay here again. Collapse

*** Full disclosure, I lean toward SPG properties and while I am loyal, I am also discerning and critical when necessary *** Look - the Sheraton Ottawa won't win any "pretty building" or "stunning architecture" awards - sadly, the building was a victim of the 70/80's building boom in Ottawa which saw sad buildings everywhere being built in the National Capital Region... but the Sheraton makes up for this with two things: AMAZING location and EVEN BETTER customer service. Here are some observations of my recent stay... 1. Lines - there are none... like never... it is a busy hotel... I know it is... but their front desk is HIGHLY responsive to guest arrival times and influxes of customers... a flux of people show up at the FD or the Restaurant... and somehow they make those lines go away by... (wait for it)... serving people fast and efficiently. 2. Customer Service - I travel a lot for work, not always to Ottawa... but these guys are great... I forgot my cufflinks... the got me some... no charge (I returned them for future use of other customers who forget their cufflinks). I needed an extended check-out... NO PROBLEM... the folks at the front desk are great, have a sense of humour, and when they ask how the day is going... they actually seem to care. In my most recent stay, my work day went side-ways and I over-extended my check-out time... not a problem, they looked after me, and did not pressure me to "get out" and extended my check out with a smile... (even after their normal time, which they are not supposed to do, but did so because they knew my day was hell). So KUDOS and thanks. 3. Details... the hotel is going through an 'elevator' modernization program and thus the service elevator for 'staff' who need to move things around is out of service (or so I think)... on several floors, staff waited until there were NO customers before they got on the elevators... I asked one of the staff why they would not get on the elevator and they said "that elevator is for you, I don't want to inconvenience you with my cart and duties"... dumbfounded, I insisted he come on the elevator... BUT... the sentiment is there and of course, that is the modus operandi... which to a tired traveler would be appreciated. 4. Main Floor Bar - this is one of those hotels where guests actually chill and hang at the bar... pretty cool... and hell... the dumplings and beer deal presently on offer is pretty fun too... (although... a few more dumplings for the price would be nice :)). 5. Cleaning/House Keeping Staff... rarely have I come back to a room to have my toiletries on the bathroom counter organized... where here I did. In a rush one morning, I dumped my shaving kit on the bathroom counter in a mad dash to find something I could not find (who knows what???). I came back after a long day to find that my dumped kit has been carefully and lovingly placed on a white 1/2 towel on the bathroom counter... all lined up and waiting for me... (sort of made me feel guilty for leaving a mess... but I was nonetheless impressed... it made my day and made me smile). 6. LOCATION - honestly... a great location. Close to Centre Town (4 min walk), stones throw the Parliament (2 min); 12 to 15 minute walk to the Market/Rideau Centre... 9 minutes to Chateau Laurier... 30 seconds to Timmys :) Well done Sheraton Ottawa! Well Done! Collapse

I travel for work quite widely bs I rarely review hotels. I have visited Ottawa several times over the last few years. Our stay at the Sheraton was quite special. Every single encounter with the staff warm warm and friendly. It became remarkable how welcomed we felt and how kind they were. The amenities were great the pool, exercise room, Lobby business area. My kids loved the lounge floor for breakfast. I highly recommend the hotel for the experience. Collapse

I stayed at Ottawa Sheraton for business in September 2015, for a couple of nights. I have no complaints, especially for business, but there is no wow factor. I f I stay for holiday, I might try to find something more special. Pros (1) In the heart of downtown (business district) Ottawa. Very convenient to go anywhere. (2) Hotel staff were friendly and efficient. (3) Clean, spacious room. (4) Wifi was free and offered good reception. Cons (1) Nothing "special" which is good in some sense... (2) When I was staying, one of the elevators was not working, and I had to wait for 5 minutes every time I wanted to use an elevator, or I ran down stairs. Collapse
