I stayed here in early November while attending a large conference. The hotel is tired-looking: large crack in the ceiling running the width of the room over the bed (paint and underlying materials cracked open), finish of mirror in bathroom deteriorating, exposing fluorescent lights behind. Dark carpet obviously not easy to keep clean-looking - carpet on floor in closet had a thick layer of dust around the perimeter. I lined up to check-in, got the key to my room and was told the room number (same written on the card holder). Went up the slow elevators, tried the key in the lock and it didn't work. Fiddled around for a while until eventually the lady staying in that room came to the door. Obviously, she was a little upset and so was I. Back down to the front desk, lined up again...found out that I was not assigned to that room but another one but was given the wrong room number by the previous staff member (verbally and in writing on the keyholder). No apology to me or the lady who I disturbed. Up the slow elevator again and this time into the correct room. The first day I was there, I did need to work in my room for several hours, had the do not disturb sign on and was not surprised when my room was not serviced. Returned to my room that evening to a phone message saying that there was a message at the front desk. Next morning down to the front desk, lined up again and asked about the message...the woman wanted ID - I tell her it's locked in the safe in the room (and here I am asking about a phone message left in my room and showing my key). The message: they were not able to service my room because I had the do not disturb sign on the door - great use of my time. However, for the following 2 days I was there, my room did not get serviced even though I was out of the room between 8-9 am each day until 5-6 pm (then in the room for a while before going out to dinner). I was not impressed. When I left to check out, I once again waited in line and the woman checking me out had a look on her face that clearly showed how little she liked her job and how little she cared about customer service. She didn't ask me how my stay was...I thought, ok, I'll post it to tripadvisor. She was unable to print my receipt, so asked her colleague (Francesco?) who did ask how my stay was. I said that it could have been better. His next question: Did you try any of the food? My response: Huh? His response: If you tried some of the food here, maybe you would have liked it better. My response: If my room had been serviced at least once during my stay, and if I had not had to pay for 24 h of wifi on the morning of my departure, it would have been better. His response: "Have a nice day." And, then neither of them would look at me or make eye contact. I realize that there will be a never-ending number of conventions in New Orleans that will support this hotel and their poor staff, but if you have the chance to stay somewhere else, I would recommend that you do. I spent a week at this hotel on business. It's a large tower block, very well positioned for the French Quarter (5 minute walk) or the conference centre (15-20 min walk). On the plus side, the room was clean and quiet (although the decor was very tired with scuffed furniture and a stained-looking nonslip mat in the bath), the bed was very comfy and the staff were mostly lovely (I'd especially like to thank Ennis the Concierge and Sabrina at the front desk, who went out of their way to be helpful and charming). However, this is not a great hotel despite some first class staff. First problem was the air-conditioning in the lobby which was turned up to arctic levels, despite the weather outside being unseasonably cold. It was too cold to meet colleagues in the lobby bar and we started to eat breakfast elsewhere as it was too cold to use the hotel breakfast area. Second problem was the awful smell which permeated the lobby - some sort of air freshener I think, but it was nauseating and at least half our large party found it increasingly unbearable as the week wore on. Third problem is that the bedrooms have ill-fitting wooden shutters rather than curtains, my bedroom faced east and there was nothing I could do to keep the light out. There is a nice outdoor pool, but it seemed to be closed more often than not, initially because of cold weather (fair enough but in that case why not save the planet and turn off the aircon?) but later in the week there was apparently some maintenance issue, though it didn't look like anyone was trying to fix it. Dear Sheraton Management team, your rooms need a serious makeover and please fit some proper blackout curtains (like every other hotel) at the same time. A fridge would also be useful even if you can't stretch to a minibar. And please please sort out the lobby fragrance and aircon if you want people to return to your hotel. I'm giving your hotel 3 stars and not 2 because your staff are so nice. Collapse

Hotel is much better than other reviews state. Yes the rooms are relatively small and bathrooms are tiny for such a place. The shower has poor pressure. The rest of the place is great. Food is good but you are in New Orleans across the street from the French Quarter. The bed is very comfortable but the thermostat motion sensor feature is annoying. We had maintenance change it so we could place it at 60 degrees but it was still hot at night and had to be sure fan was set at high constantly to get air movement. We still had to remove most of the bedding to keep from sweating. Staff is very nice and get a river view on a high floor and you will not be disappointed. Having said all this I will probably stay at Marriot next time because of the thermostat situation. Collapse

The hotel is well positioned for the French Quarter and had eateries nearby. There are several good restaurants near the hotel but within the French Quarter. There were no fridges in the room, despite the warm climate and the rooms had shutters but not curtains. Sometimes, the restaurant was closed and there was no Wi-Fi. The beds were narrow. The Starbucks in the foyer served good snacks and coffee. Collapse
