The lodge is set right on the water and we had a beautiful large room with king size bed. The lodge has a country club atmosphere, which some might prefer but we felt was too stuffy for our taste. The first of three nights we are at the restaurant and were annoyed by the fact that the wait staff were interns from France with hardly any supervision. Later we found out there is a shortage of Irish people available to work in hospitality so many places bring on interns from Europe. So, not only was there a language barrier but the server did not know and had difficulty explaining the menu. I would recommend the concierge, Jer, who was friendly and helpful. As an aside, he recommended going to Gleninchaquin Park nearby, absolutely stunning pastoral setting with falls, sheep and a short walk to an abandoned stone and thatched roof cottage. Beware of rough narrow roads where you may be forced to back up if you meet an oncoming car! Proximity of the lodge to Kenmare is close and can be walked to easily. Collapse

I cannot say enough good things about this lovely property and would have to strongly disagree with anyone who gives an unfavorable review which I am sure are isolated incidents or rare unfortunate situations. Everything was fabulous! From the gorgeous grounds and property, charming, cozy, huge and clean rooms, great calming décor and atmosphere throughout hotel, friendly, kind and accommodating staff, delicious food, good service, lovely piano music during dinner, and unbelievable views of the falls and Kenmare Bay. Have I convinced you yet? We stayed 2 nights and hired a driver, arranged through the hotel, to drive us around the Ring of Kerry so we could enjoy the scenery and not have to worry about driving. He knew all of the key places to stop but I would advise that you should be knowledgeable about where you want to stop just to be on the safe side. We went horseback riding on property and the 2 women who were running the stables were great. It was my birthday while we were there and the staff recognized this by giving us a great table by the falls, complimentary prosecco for all at our table and a beautiful dessert with the plate decorated with "Happy Birthday". I have stayed in many beautiful hotels and am pretty fussy and particular about what I like and Sheen Falls Lodge fit the bill for me in every way. You MUST stay here! Collapse
The view is spectacular~but not the Lodge

We stayed at this lodge for two nights during our trip in Ireland. One of the reasons it was selected was it's location near the ring of Kerry at Kenmare as well as the five-star hotel rating and obviously the views. The lodge only has one restaurant which we ate in the first night because we were exhausted from driving. The restaurant is nice not great, but the service was very disappointing for the "5 star hotel" and cost of staying at the lodge as well as eating there. It seemed to us that the restaurant has some type of training program and/or student exchange program as most of the servers were young and English was clearly not their first language. As a result there were a lot of unanswered questions about menu items and a much slower service due to what we think was a lack of understanding of the menu as well as being able to communicate about it to the guests. The same was true at breakfast. The menu is not extensive and is pricey. We ate in a pub in Kenmare the second night even though we were exhausted from driving all day. In our room we had an issue with the shower in that we had no hot water due to silt from the river getting into the filters. I had to go to a separate unoccupied room around 11:30 pm to use the shower. Plus the water that came out was brown. It filled our sink with actual dirt upon draining. We also did not have turned down service on either room on the second night and had to call more than once just to get some fresh towels. Another issue was getting through to reception or the concierge. It would be busy for at least 3-5 tries over a 10-15 min span. We had to go downstairs the day we were leaving to ask for a porter after many failed attempts to ring for one to assist as we had no elevator on 1st floor. The hotel did offer a partial discount for one night due to these huge inconveniences. Also something I did not notice when booking if you plan to stay and have trouble with steps ask that you not be put on the first floor~no elevators. You actually have to walk steps up to the second floor to get an elevator down. If you are looking to stay on site they had a lot of different things to do which may be good. If you are looking for a place to sleep it is way overpriced for what you actually get. Would not give it 5 stars for service in the hotel or restaurant. The views and location are spectacular which is why overall rating was a 3. I have stayed in many different levels of hotels and B and Bs this would not be a 5 star experience based upon service and most importantly what they charge per night. Wishing we would have chosen a B and B in the charming town of Kenmare instead. Collapse

We stayed at Sheen Falls for three nights in May. Spectacular property and grounds with the Falls right outside. Close to Kenmare for shopping and dining too. Upon our arrival, the staff could not locate our reservation. They invited us to relax in the bar while they worked on the issue.I was able to provide the proper confirmation number. Several minutes later I was notified that our room was available and our luggage was being delivered. We were pleasantly surprised that our room was upgraded, as a courtesy for the confusion. The staff was outstanding with getting us settled in. The breakfast (included) and the Bar/Pub on site was excellent, as was the service. The room, bed and bathroom were all first rate. Extremely comfortable stay. Collapse

We stayed at the Little Hay Cottage, and I would highly recommend it for a family (teens) or two couples. There is a full kitchen (pretty much anything you would need). They even give you some items in te fridge to get you going, and is much welcomed after traveling. The view is great from the thatched cottage, and very serene. The cottage is lovely and upscale. It is a several minute walk to the main lodge for the pub or restaurant. The falls are very lovely and are right outside the pub. The walk to town is probably about a half hour (ok in daylight, probably not at night). The restaurant at the lodge is a solid 4, and the service is excellant everywhere on the property. Very convienent for doing the ring of Kerry. Kenmare Taxi can get you from Kilarney if you don't have a car (40-50 Euro). Collapse
