Stayed in a Valley Wing Deluxe room recently for 6 nights and everything about the stay was exceptional - the room, the service, the attention to detail, the ambiance. From the moment we checked in we were made to feel welcome. Check in was quick and efficient and concluded in the room. We were given orchids as a welcome gift which was a pleasant surprise followed by a welcome drink of hot tea delivered to the room. The room itself is large with a separate dressing area and a large picture window. This doesn't quite make up for the lack of a balcony but the view of the pool and the rest of the hotel was lovely to wake up to. The bathroom is also large with a bath and separate shower and the usual L'occitane amenities. Non-alcoholic drinks in the mini-bar are free but since drinks of all kinds are available all day in the Lobby lounge there wasn't really time to take advantage of this. Breakfast is held in the Summit room with both a small but complete buffet and a la carte service. Afternoon tea and evening canapés are served in the Lobby lounge. Verve Clicquot champagne appears to be the drink of choice but a variety of wines, spirits and cocktails are also available. A special mention must be made of the staff, all of whom go out of their way to make your stay one you will never forget. Collapse
Beautiful gardens and pool but a large part of the hotel is being refurbished

The staff are so friendly and helpful and give you a good welcome. Due to the refurbishment the reception area is very small and busy. Our room was very comfortable, quite with everything you need, including a kettle and ironing board. Several of the restaurants are closed to be refurbished, I am sure it will be great when it is all done. Its at the top end of Orchard Road, so quite a distance from Downtown Core, which is really the place to be. The pool is amazing but very average service around the pool. Would probably choose a hotel in the downtown area next time. Collapse

I wholeheartedly recommend the Valley Wing. While it is decorated in a slightly old fashioned way, it has everything you need for a fantastic stay including large rooms (we are Jade members and were upgraded from a standard room to a big suite and able to check in very early which was great after a long flight), a nice aspect and luxury toiletries. The staff were lovely and very indulgent of our slightly noisy 4 year old. The free flow champagne, afternoon tea, snacks and canapés, and beautiful a la carte breakfast, made the fairly high room rate sensational value. Singapore is very expensive, especially alcoholic drinks. The pool is large and good for families. Nice lush gardens too. Would definitely stay here again. Collapse

My wife and I have stayed at the Shangri-la, Singapore hotel many times in the past and have always been impressed. As they have a demonstrative attitude to loyalty, each time we stay exceeds expectation. Due to extensive renovation being conducted in the Tower wing, we were upgraded at no cost from the Horizon Club, where we have stayed many time in the past, to the Valley wing, a separate building with a separate entrance from the road but easily accessible from the main hotel. How did the Valley Wing compare? We were further upgraded to a 91sqm suite which was superb; certainly the best hotel room we have stayed in. In the past we have stayed in the deluxe Premier Room in the Horizon Club which was about 70sqm and also an excellent room, certainly well above the average hotel large deluxe room. But the Valley Wing suite was even more luxurious. Following the Tower Wing refurbishment I believe the rooms will be reclassified so I will have to wait to see what the new Horizon Club rooms offer. The canapés at night in the Valley Wing were more exotic and individually served rather than the buffet setup in the Horizon Club. Is it better? It really is personal preference. The liquors and wines offered in the Valley Wing are of higher quality and would suit the connoisseur. Breakfast in the Valley Wing has a larger à la carte menu that the Horizon Club but a smaller buffet. There are more interesting offerings on the Valley Wing breakfast menu. We are happy with either. Of course one can still go to the Line Restaurant for an over the top breakfast which features a huge buffet to suit all tastes and nationalities. We don’t go there because we will overeat! Overall the Valley Wing is a higher standard of accommodation than the Horizon Club but it is an individual decision whether the extra cost is justified. The leisure features of the hotel are also excellent. The pool is large, about 40m at the longest axis with comfortable lounge seating around the pool and on the adjoining manicured lawn. There is a full featured Spa. A massage therapist is also available around the pool should you desire a leg massage or even a full massage. Mr Mohr does a great job! The health club is a full featured gym which should satisfy most gym junkies. The service in both wings is exemplary. We have always found service at the Shangri-la excellent. The hotel offers a unique loyalty in which accumulated loyalty points can be used for food and services within the hotel – really great is you don’t have sufficient points to redeem a room. To summarize the Shangri-la is a wonderful, full featured 5 star hotel where comfort and service are of the highest standard. Collapse

Absolutely memorable. Check in was upstairs at Horizon Club and my kids were indulged with cookies and hot chocolate. The room we got was a bit dated but it is huge for a club room. Almost suite like. The bathroom was huge, suite level for some other comparable hotels. Service from Shangr-La is top notch and is something i am coming to expect from them. Nothing but the best from them. Had my breakfast at The Horizon Club and the egg benedict was done perfect! The yolk was 'runny' and the tenderloin that was served with it was cooked to the right doness. Steak and egg. What a treat! After my 'could have been better stay" at Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, see my other review, this stay at Orchard Grove Shangri-La more than made up my initial dissapointment with the Shangri-La branding. A class act from the guys in Orchard Grove. Service and Staff is professional and i should have signed up for the Golden Circle loyalty program. Collapse
