SB Plaza Europa - nice clean hotel. One room smelt of sewerage a little. The breakfast was ok but we found all the "hot" food (eggs, bacon etc) wasn't! It was all cold! Needs to be on a hot plate. See more

Just stayed here at SB Plaza Europe for four nights with the wife as a treat for my 50th Birthday. Superb hotel in a quiet, out of the city centre location. This was a great find by the wife. It was a nice clean hotel, modern, with a bar, restaurant, snack bar and gym-sauna-steam room. The rooms are modern with A/C, TV, Wi-Fi, shower and a free to use built in safe. The rooms are cleaned daily and towels changed as per usual hotel rules. We stayed in a room on the first floor right next to the main road but the glazing is that good the noise from outside was minimal and did not disturb our sleep once. The traffic on the roads is not mega busy anyhow. The restaurant is nice, with a good choice. We only had a breakfast on one occasion so can't comment on dinner menus. We had an all you can eat breakfast which was €15 each and was nice. We never got round to trying out the gym, sauna or steam room. There is also a roof top bar and outdoor pool but they were both closed for the duration of our stay. The hotel is served by 2 metro train stations, one slightly closer than the other. Ildefons Cerca the closer and Europa-Fira being slightly further away. Both only a 10 min walk tops. From here you can get to anywhere in Barcelona within about 30 mins tops including changeovers. The metro is truly superb. Metro buses are also regular and stops nearby but we only used the trains. There is also a taxi rank right outside the hotel lobby. Europa-Fira is a direct route to the airport, both terminals. But be aware that Easyjet flights go from Terminal 2C which is a good and I do mean good trek from the metro station. There is a superb shopping mall about 200 yards away which has a few nice cafes if you want a continental style breakfast and a browse of some good quality shops. There is also a fantastic supermarket in the mall. The mall is called Carrefour Grand Via 2, as from the outside it is strangely hardly to tell what it is. Personal tips for a more enjoyable stay in Barcelona. If arriving late get a taxi to this hotel. It will only cost €20 it is better than messing around on trains when you don't know where you are going. If you are happy with a coffee and a croissant for breakfast, go to the mall. For 2 this will cost about €5. Much cheaper than the hotel. Buy a T-10 travel ticket which will allow you 10 journeys on the metro. You can share it with your partner. Basically swipe one through and pass it back. It's not being naughty, thats how it works. You can actually swipe more than ten times as long as you do your swiping within 75 minutes of your first swipe of the day. They last until all 10 swipes are used. The tickets are validated by the swiping machine stamping the back with a time and date each time you use it. Be aware though that if you try to use your last swipes to go to the airport it will not let you through. You have to buy a separate airport ticket which cost €4.20 each. These tickets are easily and simply available from ticket machines in the train stations. Work out your itinerary for the day, where you want to go and download a Barcelona metro app from your phones app store. Barcelona metro by mapway is brilliant. Plan your route and write down your lines and changes beforehand. You wont believe how much easier this is for a stress free trip. Some stations are multiple changeovers and are extremely busy. Make sure you are going in the right direction. Whichever way you are planning to go the diagram on the station map on the wall will be colour coded to the line in that direction, the other direction will be plain white. Book your trips to Gaudi Park or Sagrada Familia online as when we went to them one day both were sold out all day. The Nou Camp is busy but you can get in anytime. Do be aware of who is around you and what they are up to. Pick-pockets are rife but we personally didn't experience or witness any. Do the open- top bus tour first as this gets you an idea of where everything is and the size of the city plus sights that take your fancy and merit a more in-depth visit. Take a good pair of comfortable footwear. Believe me you'll thank me for this advice. Take an umbrella in April. It maybe Spain but it does rain and heavily. Collapse

Stayed here for four nights between the 23rd and 27th April. This hotel was modern, very clean, with nice relaxing public areas. Our room had a very comfy bed and although was at the front of the hotel we heard very little noise. The room itself had everything you needed including hairdryer and ironing board with iron. Had breakfast at the hotel the first morning however after that ate in the local cafes for a very reasonable price. The hotel was located close to the metro which offered easy access into the centre and all the attractions. From the airport we got a taxi from outside, very well organised and only €20. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again when we visit the city again. Collapse

I love this hotel, it's one of the best hotels I have stayed in, staff are very helpful and accommodating, we had booked 2 separate rooms online and wanted rooms next door to each other, there wasn't any available on our arrival so we got upgraded to a junior suite and a triple room next door. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the rooms the just wow. Very clean and love the interior design of the rooms. The bed and pillow were the most comfortable than many other hotels I've tried. Only downside was that the shower and the tap flowed together but that was minor. It was too cold to make any use of the rooftop pool but still the terrace area was lovely. A wide range of selection available for the buffet breakfast, only thing missing were baked beans. At first the area where the hotels situated is a little quiet but you get used to it and like it after a busy day in the city which is just 15 mins away in the metro...best to buy a T10 metro Ticket to the city and don't waste money on taxi's. The staff gave us very useful info regarding any travel questions. Opposite the hotel is the Gran Via shopping mall, has a food court, supermarket for food and toiletries and a mixure of shops like Hollister, kiko, JD, Pandora, Zara etc... Also we discovered 4 little play areas/ parks for kids to enjoy at walking distance from the hotel. Collapse

Our family of 5 stayed here for one night. It's close to the airport (but not too close to hear planes landing/taking off). We had a good-sized family room (for European standards). The breakfast was very good and staff very attentive and friendly. The pool on the rooftop was fun, but freezing in July :) It's also located across a shopping mall with restaurants and good shops. Recommended if you need to stay close to the airport, otherwise I would've stayed closer to Barcelona's city center. Collapse
