SB Plaza Europa - nice clean hotel. One room smelt of sewerage a little. The breakfast was ok but we found all the "hot" food (eggs, bacon etc) wasn't! It was all cold! Needs to be on a hot plate. See more

We come every two months to Barcelona and we like this area close to Gran Via 2 and easy to come from the airport and to go Barcelona city center Comparing to other hotel in this area the basic rooms are ok nice to have a great gym place and roof terrace even if the swimming is very small The breakfast experience was very poor always having to ask to replace food or drink even some waiters not very pleasant bad quality of fruit Juice Most of tables dirty with all dishes of the previous customers Collapse

Introduction: We stayed in this hotel during a weekend trip with my partner in March 2017. We left the hotel with mixed feelings (mostly bad) mainly due to the quality of the room and the provided services. There are some positive attributes though, like location and the range of available facilities. Read further if you want to know more. Location (4/5): The hotel is relatively close to the airport (19 minutes driving). Not sure about public transport but there is a large shopping center opposite to the hotel (Gran Via 2) so I assume there are a few bus stops nearby. The hotel does not offer airport shuttle service. The city center and the port are also 10-15 minutes driving distance. My rating here is 4 stars, 1 star minus as the hotel is not walking distance from the city center. Exterior (4/5): The building has a nice modern design. There is a pool and a sun lounge on the rooftop which you can see on all marketing photos. There is a main road at the front and a side street where you can access the underground parking facility. If you are coming by car there is no parking at the front but you can use the underground parking which is free of charge. There is also a public parking nearby. Interior (3/5): The lounge has a really nice decor, with huge bookshelves and very comfy sofas. There are several large desks and sitting areas for guests. There is also a bar here which is accessible from the street and serves food all day. There is a dedicated seating area for breakfast (behind the bookshelves), a conference room at the back, toilets, 3 computers for accessing the Internet, the reception area (3 counters), the elevators (4 cars) which run from the garage (levels -2 and -1), fitness and spa (level -1) through all floors (level 0-8) to the rooftop pool and bar (level 8). The reason of the 3 star rating here is the corridor leading to the rooms and the overall quality of the interior. The corridor is very dark and there are marks all over the floor carpet and the walls. These are mainly spills of some sort of liquid but you can find scratches and other small damages as well. Rooms (2/5): Our room was standard room with minimal furniture. Size is above average, furniture is pretty new. The bed is comfy (medium hard), there is a desk with a chair, one bedside table (the other one was replaced by a stool). The flat screen TV is wall mounted and a good size (approx. 32"). The bathroom is pretty small and has a shower and a toilet only. The tap and mirror are in the room which I personally do not like. There is also a cupboard with a safe and a mini bar under the desk. Air conditioning is working OK but a bit loud. There is a floor to ceiling window which can be opened. There is a curtain which is highly recommended to use or otherwise the room can be pretty hot. There is free wifi in the room and basically everywhere within the hotel, wifi signal in the room was OK. Soundproofing is very bad you can hear every noise in the room next door and in the corridor. Street noise is minimal on the 4th floor. The reason of the 2 star rating is the mould in the bathroom (on the shower head) and the spills all over the wall. General quality of the paint, sealing, laminate floor, plugs, furniture is poor. Looks good for the first sight but you can find issues if you take a closer look (see the attached photos). Service (2/5): The overall service we received was poor. Staff generally can speak English but there are not really helpful. We had several issues that we reported but were difficult to resolve. The second day we could not leave the underground parking without paying for the ticket (parking supposed to be free of charge). It turned out that you do not need a parking ticket but just call the reception from the gate and they open it. They had to cancel the original ticket and gave us a temporary ticket which was not working. Finally they could manage to open the gate but the whole procedure took almost 2 hours. In another occassion the cleaners used some very strong chemicals to clean the room. The smell was so unbearable when we entered the room that we could not stay. My wife even fainted due to the strong smell. We opened the window to let is some fresh air and flagged the issue at the reception. When we came back a few hours later the smell was still very bad and the window was closed... Price (3/5): The price is average but there are a wide range of facilities included (Gym, Spa, Pool, Parking) which makes it a better deal. Buffet breakfast was 15 EUR and the food was OK. We have not tried the bar as there are plenty of bars in the shopping center across the road (if you like meat try the Brazilian Rodizio restaurant). Summary (3/5): As I said in the introduction we did not enjoy our stay in this hotel. Although there are a wide range of amenities available, the fundamental requirements for me are the room (where I can have a good sleep) and the service provided by the staff. Collapse

I stayed with my 10 year old daughter at the SB Plaza Europa and we are extremely content. Very clean, modern building, very friendly staff - all English speaking - and very quiet at night. The breakfast table is great and the seating outside is lovely for sun deprived Scandinavians. Roof terrace is also nice. Didn't try the pool. Easy to get to the Metro and taxis are always on the doorstep. Collapse

We stayed here for 3 nights and were satisfied of our experience. The rooftop deck unfortunately was closed (it was cold) so we didn't get to use the pool. We actually booked the hotel for this deck. Anyways, the staff were friendly, had no issues with theft and the guys in the restaurant were nice. I wasn't blown away with the restaurant menu, heavy on meat and bread and not enough vegetables but when in Rome...The décor was quite cool in the lounge area. The only downside for us was the area, it was in the business district so it wasn't close to any of the attractions or restaurants, but the metro was literally 5 mins away and we cabbed to a lot of places. It's fairly close to the airport though. Collapse
