We have stayed here on two or three previous occasions but unfortunately we feel that the hotel is gradually slipping and next time we will stay elsewhere in Barcelona. We have chosen it for proximity to El Prat and for their large family rooms - the latter rather rare in Spain. This time we arrived at 2:50 PM and were told our room was not ready. "Wait fifteen minutes". The lobby was overcrowded with restless people waiting for their rooms. After further waiting the receptionist phoned housekeeping, whispered " at least half an hour" in spanish to her colleague and said to me "another fifteen minutes" in english. All in all we waited over an hour. The room has good layout but this time the hotel was very crowded and walls are very thin which sets you up for a restless sleep. I could hear conversations from next door in detail from a couple who got up early to go to the airport. Breakfast is basic, without the special touches it used to have. Poor selection of bread, tiny cups provided for tea or coffee. I am missing the spanish almonds and other specialities this hotel used to serve that set it apart from the rest. Overall I believe that staff used to be more friendly and accomodating, both in reception and elsewhere. For instance, at the pool bar I ordered two glasses of cava and the bar man gave me one and a half - because that was all that remained in the bottle. Ridiculous. He gave me an uninterested shrug when I pointed out that one glass was half empty. Small things, but they add up. The hotel has expanded but instead of improving service it has slipped. Oh, and I forgot to mention - the room rate has increased 50% since we were here two years ago. Time to find other options. Collapse

Executive Rooms not worth the extra cost

Location of the hotel is OK if you are driving but otherwise it is a good 10-15 minute walk into the town centre and train station. Having said that, there is a large shopping centre almost next door which is convenient. Check-in was quick but the front desk staff lack much charm and I was surprised that they took full payment on Check-in rather than the usual check-out. I booked an executive room which are described on the hotel website as "It is ideal for resting and work affairs" - although room 130 that I was in did not even have desk so I am not even sure if it was an executive room. It certainly did not look like the photos on the website that show a desk! It was therefore very hard for me to have to work from a small round coffee table! It seems I paid somewhat extra for nothing, The room itself was clean and modern with good aircon. But there was no ironing board or iron which surely is an essential in an executive room these days. The TV was OK but only had BBC World in English which is boring after half an hour. I was disappointed that my room had still not been serviced by 4pm and I had to ask the cleaner to make it a priority. The walls between the rooms (certainly in 130) are paper-thin, and although my room was supposedly "Executive" I found myself next door to a family which included a screaming child that screamed all night while its parents paced around until 2am. I got no sleep - great for business! The swimming pool and outside areas are nice and have a good view of the sun all day. Prices at the bar are reasonable. The gym is well equipped and there is a sauna available as well. The main reason I am scoring a "poor", apart from the apparent non-executiveness of executive rooms is the fact that when I checked out I asked for a taxi to the airport. They called one for me then another guest arrived and asked where the free shuttle was to the airport. No one even advised me of this! Imagine my anger when the free hotel shuttle bus left before my taxi, got to the airport first and I lost out 25EUR. This was disgraceful customer relations. Collapse

The hotel is surrounded by main roads and is not secluded as the pictures on the website make it appear, but the upside is that it is about 10-15 mins walk to the train station and also close to the local town/beach. We arrived at around mid-day after travelling more than 18 hours to be told we could not check in until 15:00 despite having arranged for early checkin - because checkout is only at noon and the hotel was full. We argued our case and did eventually manage to get into our room earlier. The rooms are relatively spacious, clean and very modern in design. Beds are firm and very comfortable and there is aircon. Lots of storage (we were two female colleagues sharing) but could have done with more hangers for clothes. It has everything you need including a safe. Not all rooms have a bath (they do have a hairdryer) so you would need to specify and also take your own shampoo! We didn't need to use plug adaptors as all the various plug types were wall fittings (e.g. two-pin for iphone), which made life easier. The wifi in the hotel was free but extremely poor - our conference was held in the hotel itself and the connection would continually drop and we would have to re-sign in each time. This was extremely frustrating and we expected this to be better in a first world country. Great continental style breakfast with variety of cheese, cold meats, breads and pastries and the chocolate pastries are delicious - but avoid the scrambled eggs (dry). If you are from an anglophone country take your own tea bags (we found some PG Tips at a shop in Barcelona) as the Spanish tea is not good and if you are Italian the coffee will be very disappointing - but this may not be unique to the hotel. There is also a gym and turkish bath which is not specified on their website. And if you take the train from Barcelona, make sure it stops at Castadelfells and its not a long distance train that doesn't stop.....we ended up half way to southern Spain before we could get back.
