I took my partner and parents here in November and had a great time. It's a great place to stay in Clearwater, where I have generally found the quality of accommodation to be poor. Sandpearl is more expensive than most options in the area but it's certainly a high quality choice. The location is unbeatable, being right on the beachfront. My only complaint is that the hotel chargers more for guests to hire loungers on the beach. Quite unbelievable really that a hotel at this level is trying to raise revenue this way. I know it spoils many peoples very positive opinions of the hotel (after seeing several arguments on the beach) and this policy needs revisiting quickly. The rooms are very nice and comfortable, while service is great. Breakfast is average and isn't cheap. In November the hotel was a nice mix with adults/ couples and children, but I expect that during the warmer months the hotel is overrun with kids, which couples should probably be aware of. Overall we would stay again, but out of principal they should change their lounger policy, or else we will stay elsewhere. Collapse

Bay view is street view!

We had never been to this hotel before and booked a suite with what the hotel calls a "Bay view." In reality, this was a street view room. If you want a water front room, you must book the "Gulf view." This is not at all clear from the website and we were very disappointed upon arrival. I wish we had known this when we booked the hotel. Although we were on the 7th floor, the street noise was so loud (particularly motorcycles which frequently drive past the hotel) that we could not use the balcony or even have the sliding door open. Also be warned about the pricing. While the room itself was $567 per night, the hotel adds a daily parking fee of $25 (although the parking appears to be on hotel property) and a daily "Resort Amenity fee" of $29 which the hotel claims is for the coffee maker in the room, daily bottled water, towels, etc. These items should be (and generally are) complimentary in a nice hotel. The hotel also charges $6 per person for marshmallows if you accept the invitation for s'mores at the camp fire. In fairness, having stayed at Opal resorts before (Lake Placid Lodge, which is not substantially more expensive when the Sandpearl parking and amenity fees and associated taxes are factored in), our expectations may have been too high. On the positive side, it is a beautiful property, the room was very large with a full kitchen and very large bath, and was kept very clean by the staff throughout our stay. The hotel staff (particularly the bellmen and valet parking staff) were very courteous and accommodating. Overall, I would recommend this hotel (and will stay there again myself) to anyone who is staying over in Clearwater. Despite the criticisms set forth above, it is the nicest hotel on the beach. Just be sure to book the Gulf view! Collapse
Great on the outside, not the same inside.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights--outside was amazing! Awesome pool, look and feel to this place. The rooms were a great size and the staff were wonderful for the most part. The beds were okay, but we noticed it only had a ripped mattress pad and loose sheet on top--came off each night and was hard to sleep on. A few things we were disappointed in...the bathroom wasn't the cleanest and neither was behind the bed (I'm a sucker for beds being clean as anyone would be--dust and dirt lining the wall and bed skirt behind!!), the sink made noises when you turned it on, the bathtub was deep but had a bunch of chips all over in it and was dirty around the edges and in these chips, the AC unit was loud and made noises, the resort fee says it includes beach chairs, but be careful because they will charge you an extra $29 total just to use an umbrella!! Parking is also $25 a day--valet only. Items in the marketplace and gift shop were so high that we were in and out. We tried Tate's on a non-busy night, and we had the slowest service. We saw a couple get up and leave it was so bad. We ate off the property every time but this one time. All in all, looks are great, but for the price, the little things need to matter more. Not happy with our stay there, and we were happy to go to another hotel for our next three nights!! Collapse
