Booked at short notice as had to travel to near there to a funeral . I’d known of this Hotel many years ago and in those days it had a formidable reputation as a Hotel of exceptionally high levels of comfort and food . On our stay this weekend we can safely say this hasn’t changed . The view alone is stunning and out classes the “big” five star Hotels around Donegal which we have visited on a number of stays and from the word go hospitality and thoughtfulness is very evident . This Hotel may just find it harder to compete with the big marketing budgets of it’s competitors but we feel exceeds on hospitality , comfort and quality whilst coming across as hospitable and friendly with commited staff . Bedroom size over generous , warm and fires alit in public areas . CAROLINE in restaurant represents this Hotel to the very best an establishment and their customers would hope to meet- managing the restaurant and other areas professionally and displays great commitment to her Hotel and Manager .. but most so to her customer . She added to our stay along with the rest of the Team but she in particular should be considered for nomination for the Hospitality Industry Awards as a candidate for recognition . Will visit again in New Year and wish this Hotel every success . Collapse

Just home having stayed last night at the hotel.... This was a surprise trip for my fiance and we stopped in to have a coffee and whilst my fiance nipped to the bathroom I quickly went to reception and was able to check in without him finding out thanks to the bubbly lady on reception... Caroline I think.... Our room was room 253 and it was huge with a four poster bed and a fabulous view over the beach and ocean.... Absolutely beautiful looking out from one of the two sitting areas in the room. We went for a walk on the beach and grabbed lunch at smugglers creek nearby. On returning to the hotel we popped into surfers bar to watch the rugby.... And didn't leave until gone midnight...the bar even provided free pizza and chips to everyone during the game which was fantastic!! . Great wee bar offering fantastic Guinness and a wide selection of gins which kept us very happy! Breakfast was served to our table by very pleasant waitresses and we had fresh fruit, porridge, bacon and kippers all accompanied with some coffee and bread basket. The restaurant also offered fabulous views over the sea. All too soon it was time to leave but we will definitely return for another relaxing night soon!! Thank you to everyone at the Sandhouse and surfers bar!! Collapse

This is our favourite place to stay in Donegal. We loved it last year and the same this year. The rooms have a warm old fashioned feel and the staff are so friendly. Our view of the beach from the third floor was fabulous and when the tide is in you can almost touch the sea as you watch from lying on the bed. Restaurant food and service is top quality and the location is perfect to explore Donegal as it is so close to the N15. It is a home away from home for us. Collapse

Called in to The Sandhouse for a. Purple of drinks whilst staying in the area. Attended Surfers Bar and was served by Emma. I have to say, she was extraordinarily charming. Smile and chatty. Everything the hospitality industry could want in staff. Very knowledgeable about the local area and very attentive to the patrons using the bar. The experience of calling in and being greeted with such friendliness and charm has made my partner and I decide to stay there when next in the area. The hotel should hold onto her at all costs. Her demeanour and friendliness will make her stand out from the others should she decide on a career in the industry ( she's still studying) Never been before and don't know the girl but she left a lasting impression on my partner and I. It's the friendliness of Donegal people that make us come back time and time again. Will be back at The Sandhouse for sure Collapse

I'm heading back to the Sandhouse for three nights at the end of the month and I just can't wait. Have had two stays there in the last 12 months, most recently in June, and it's perfect every time. Both earlier stays were for family occasions, and Elizabeth and Caroline on reception couldn't have done more to help. And the other Caroline in the dining room is an absolute gem - the epitome of quiet, unobtrusive efficiency. She should be running the country! This time round, my stay is purely to feed my soul and relax - and it's the ideal place to do that. I love the fire in the lobby and, of course, the sea views. And breakfast ... breakfast is special, in that it's completely cooked to order and served to your table. No queuing up for overcooked eggs and greasy bacon, and none of those godawful toasters that have no setting between not-done and burnt! All told, it's just a special place, with special people, and special memories. Can't wait for the end of the month. :) Berna Cox Collapse
