After reading some of the reviews about this hotel over the few months after we booked it, I was almost nervous about our stay. Not the case. Sure the hotel needs to be updated, it shows many signs of wear and tear, but any of those didn't effect our stay. We arrived at the hotel having booked a "Junior Suite" with a sea view, yes it did have a sea view but the balcony was a disappointment. It was very small, barely room for the two chairs that were there and as it was a room shaded by other parts of the building it didn't catch the sun early and a few hours later it was in the shade again. We mentioned this at reception and were offered another room with a private terrace, this ticked the boxes. Many complaints about wi-fi, we were on the third floor and the fourth floor and had no problems. The food was varied and excellent, though never very hot, microwave available in the dining room if you weren't happy, but the choices were excellent, even the fussy eater will always find something suitable. Some of the pool bar staff and indeed some of the senior dining room staff should avail of a customer care refresher course. Overall the staff are a credit to the place, special mention, hope I spell it correct, to Dashia at reception. As our flight home was late evening, there was a room where we could leave our luggage and we were offered the use of a room to shower and change before we left, much appreciated. The fridge in the room is in a locked press and once you agree to pay for it the press is unlocked, while it doesn't break the bank, on half board you have to pay for fridge, safe and if needed a kettle, lesser hotels often provide these items as standard. Evening entertainment was varied and enjoyable, even a magician on one occasion. I would recommend this hotel to my friends without hesitation, maybe requesting a sea view and a west facing room on the 3rd or 4th floor to avail of the evening sun. I would have given an excellent rating except for the wear issues that can be seen in the hotel. Shops and supermarkets a few mins walk, plenty local pubs for entertainment, it was a memorable stay. Yes we would like to go back sometime, but the world is too small, more places to see first. Collapse

This was our third visit to this hotel and it is just as wonderful as the first. The hotel is in need of a little TLC but its still a great hotel, the staff are so helpful anything you want just ask. When we arrived we had upgraded to a sea view room and we were not disappointed and to make things better the hotel had supplied a bottle of champagne and a plate of fruit as a thank you for returning a third time. That apart the hotel caters mainly for elderly people like us who return time after time and get to know the staff, but there are many young couples who go with young children. The prices are quite high at the bar but you expect this when they put on entertainment from 8pm to 12 midnight with very good acts. Do not be put off by the few bad reviews with petty problems, give it a try for your self and you decide Collapse

Stayed here for one week on an all Inclusive basis. Nice check in, porter takes cases up to your room. We paid extra for a sea view (well worth it). Lovely balcony. Mini fridge in room and bottled water topped up every day. Room was cleaned every day. Food was good, quite a variation (but if staying for 10/14 days would get repetative). Food wasnt always piping hot, but having said that, plenty of mircrowaves to heat food up. Always a themed section each night, Chinese was delicous. Breakfast, plenty of choice and the egg station was good, omlete made to order. Alcholic drinks were premium, ( i would recommend asking for the brand though, eg smirnoff), Pool/snack bar plenty of choice for food. Entertainment was good. the location excellent, so close to Playa del Carmen with all the shops/bars/restaurants. My only criticism is the hairdryer in the bathroom, OK if your left handed and have no hair!! power was very poor. Also, the staff around the pool bar need a lesson in customer service (!!) Admit they were always busy but customer service whatsoever. All in all, would come back, worth paying extra for a sea view Collapse
Bar prices are a little high

I have just returned from a week at this hotel. The room I had 2104 was a sea view room overlooking the gardens the balcony was bathed in sunshine in the afternoon. The room was clean and fresh but I agree with others that there is a shortage of electrical sockets in the room. The air conditioning in the room worked perfectly. The dining room was large but very busy and the food choices at both breakfast and evening meal were very good, I did not take lunch in the hotel. The bar service can at times be a little slow and the pricing is hard to justify, by this I mean that the pool bar charges €3.50 for a pint of beer but the upstairs evening bar charges €4.50 for the same product. If you are a person that likes to spend the evening at the hotel bar then it might be wise to upgrade to all inclusive at a cost of €28 per person per day. I know this sounds a lot but when you consider that a southern comfort and lemonade costs €7.75 in the upstairs bar then it does not take long to cover this charge. It also includes lunch. I did not go all inclusive as I liked to lunch out and also visit other bars in the evenings, I think the AI charge also covers the cost of the safe and fridge but not sure. I visited this hotel during term time as a solo traveller so I don't know what it would be like for families with children. I would also point out that at the time I visited the majority of guest were in an older age range but that might just be us oldies avoiding kids holiday times. Would I use this hotel again. Yes. Would I recommend this hotel to friends . Yes. Collapse
