Booked afternoon tea here with a groupon voucher, and we were very unsure of what to expect. Arrived 45 mins earlier than we'd booked and we were given a table with no problems. A very nice, filling and delicious tea was brought out! All was very fancy with great service. Special mention to Prescilla and Stella who served us with a lovely smile throughout. We were offered more tea, nibbles or even champagne at no additional charge, but were more than happy with what we'd already had. The assortment of sandwiches and pastries was very nice and even catered for a request for now chocolate on the desserts. Collapse

We had a severe "nor'easter" on the east coast of the United States. I had to change my flight because of it and cancel my first night of a 4 night reservation at the Royal Horseguards hotel. When I cancelled my reservation for that night and asked the hotel if they could issue a refund in light of the situation I had no control over - they responded by saying no - it was against their policy. In my opinion this is an exhibition of immoral business ethics and says a lot about the hotel. During my stay I had several other additional issues: 1. There was only one electrical outlet in my room that did not work. They provided an adapter to a different type of outlet. However this only allows charging one device at a time... and the outlet location was not near the bed. 2. They charged a hold on my bank account for £372 pounds WITHOUT my authorization. That is essentially stealing money without my permission. On the first night, the receptionist explained that it was a mistake and that it would be reversed. On the second day after I noticed it wasn't reversed the receptionist argued with me that they were charging for the day that I cancelled (even though it was pre-paid). After she reached out to her manager they explained that these charges were just holds for services that I might use during my stay - but the funds would be released if I did not use them. This is a horrible policy in my opinion and more horrible that I did not authorize the transaction. 3. A fire drill occurred during my stay during the single time I was catching up on sleep. I understand that these things happen - but I received no apology from the hotel. Collapse

i dont know why this place has so many good reviews on tripadvisor or anywhere for that matter. We stayed in this hotel for about 7 days(yeah i still regret choosing this over mayfair) and had a horrible experience. First off the room which they allocated was very very small for two of us to even move. For the price we paid that room size was not worth it at all. We requested for a bigger room and were charged 40 pound per day and still not the same room size nor the same service as Mayfair. Also the house keeping dept is downright rude and the maid there shows attitude if you tell them to come later in the day for cleaning room. Oh bdw nobody in the house keeping or room service department would answer your queries if you call them after 07:00 P.M. They are just asleep or lacking on staff. "Make up Room" service is just arranging your sheets and putting fresh towels it doesnt include vacuuming the room even if you are staying there for more than a week. i complained about vacuuming the room and putting some air freshener and that was never done. So i had to escalate to their manager to have it cleaned neatly. Dont even get me started about the breakfast, the fruits seem stale and most of the cold stuff is not ok. I dont have experience with their restaurant so cant comment on that. May be if you are staying for a day or two and want to be near Trafalgar square then this place seems ideal otherwise i wouldnt see a reason to spend so much money on this crappy place for longer stay. Oh bdw their Firealarm goes off quite often which happened twice during my stay. Overall if you are on a buisness trip like myself and want to try a new hotel please avoid this place. Collapse

We wanted a hotel that had character, that was not modern. We exited the tube station and the hotel is literally just across the road. It’s in a great location. As we stepped inside the hotel the doorman made us feel welcome. Checking in was quick and easy, staff were polite, professional and friendly. We loved the large reception area with comfy seating area and huge fireplace. We were here for 2 nights... unfortunately there was a problem and we moved rooms... however We loved this hotel and what it represents. Our first room was on the first floor with no view and no bath. Our 2 Nd room was on the 8 th floor with a view of the thames and London eye. This is what we felt was missing from the first room, this was what we had come to enjoy. Reception Staff dealt with our problem without question, professionally and politely offering us a quick solution. Breakfast was lovely, loads of choice but of course 5 star prices. Shame not to experience it but if you want cheaper than it can be found just 5 minutes away. The beds are fabulously comfortable..... the towels and gowns fluffy and white..... Collapse
