We were looking for a bit of winter sun without having to travel to the Caribbean. Boy did we make the right choice. It's a great concept with 28 individual serviced villas from 1 to 3 bedrooms. Don't for one moment think that you'll get anything less by booking a one bed villa. All of them are luxuriously decorated in a kind of 'old world hacienda' kind of way, lots of wooden cabinets and the biggest double bed we've ever slept in! Every villa has its own private terrace with private pool, sun loungers, table and chairs and a 'chill out' bed. The pools in the one bed villas are more of a plunge pool affair and the larger villas have much larger pools and huge terrace areas. Each villa has its own fully equipped kitchen with washing machine and dishwasher so you can easily have a self catering holiday if you wish with room service on hand if you fancy a break from the cooking. Having said that, the quality of the food in the restaurant is absolutely first class and I would highly recommend going half board. The hotel has an agreement with a local restaurant group to provide dining at no extra charge from your half board arrangements giving you a great deal of dining choices. We ate in their Asian fusion and Italian restaurants and they were also first class. If you're a wine buff, leave yourself an extra half an hour to peruse the wine 'book'. It's the biggest wine list I've ever seen. A special mention for the staff at Royal Garden Villas, as any establishment is only as good as the people who provide the service, I'm sure you won't have any problems at the resort, but if you do, a smiling member of staff will be on hand to fix your problem. Every villa was occupied when we visited in November 2016 but the resort was always quiet and the staff always gave the impression of serenity which, for me, is the sign of a well run hotel. Damian on reception, Marilyn, Carlos and Delfin in the restaurant and all the rest of the staff are a credit to Fiona, the resort manager who will be on hand at breakfast to meet new guests and make sure their stay is without problems. One thing you should be aware of, and if you read other reviews of this resort, you will be aware that there is some road noise which is more noticeable in the one bedroom villas than the larger villas due to the fact that the larger villas are higher up and further away from the road. Having read other reviews of this resort before we came, we were well aware of this fact and I can say, it really wasn't an issue for us. It isn't a main road and during the day you may get a car or two every 20 seconds or so and at night, practically nothing. Suffice to say, I've just emailed the agent we booked it through to see when we can come again! Collapse

Superb food and drink, lovely attentive staff and luxurious high quality accommodation. Clean and tidy facilities including the squash court, spa and gym. Villas are spacious and well equipped. Location is away from the hustle and bustle of the main resorts, which is a positive however quite close to a main road so there is a bit of traffic noise at night. Tip if you have allergens or intolerances (like my wife) - ask to see the 'other' menu available in the restaurant - basically the room service menu but has all the allergen info listed. Much better suited (compared to the a la carte menu) if you have lactose intolerance, which we found out a few nights into our stay. All food is cooked and presented excellently. Waiting staff remembered our preferences eg type of coffee I drink at breakfast - making me feel at home. The tucan tucan pub was a bit of an anticlimax, not often open or staffed - I suspect it might get busier in the high season... The villa cleaning and turn-down services were done well and efficiently. The manager Fiona makes a point to speak to all guests which is a nice touch. Walk to nearest town La Caleta is about 30-40 mins downhill. Walk to supermarket is about 20 mins uphill. Golf course opposite villas looked excellent. Overall a fantastic place for a romantic getaway (and even for families) and despite some minor flaws, well deserving of 5 star status. Collapse

We stayed at Royal garden villas in March /April 2015. Upon arrival we were very warmly greeted with a glass of cava . My daughter and 2 grandsons were with me. The villa "Aloha" was something to behold. The villa was exquisite, nothing could be faulted. The housekeeping staff were marvellous as were the resteraunt staff. Every service they provided was of the highest quality. One of my grandsons was revising for university exams and as we were staying in we ordered room service for lunch. The food was delicious and the portion size was huge so much so I thought it was a mistake. Not only that the table was laid with lovely linen and cutlery. My daughter and her family are staying again in spring 2017 and I so wish I was going with them. Due to other family commitments I can't go. I am so envious. Thank you Royal garden villas for a wonderful holiday in fabulous surroundings. Collapse
