This is the first Kimpton Hotel I've ever stayed in...this hotel was selected for me by the group hosting a meeting in DC... Arriving at the hotel, the guy out front who worked for the hotel didn't offer any help...the lobby is fairly small and the front desk is to the side...the hotel is dark and rather drab...the furnishings were nice and in good condition, but it place just seemed too dark and stale... This hotel needs to be refreshed...it looks like a 1970's interior design...dark and "old" looking...even if just another shade of red is used... When I arrived at 1:45 pm on the day of check-in, a room wasn't yet ready...no problem, I went to the small restaurant section and found a seat with an electrical connection so that I could charge up my iPhone...at 3:00 pm, I checked and no room was ready yet...at 4:00 pm, I checked again and no room was ready...I told the front desk staff then that I needed a room to change clothes for a 5:30 board meeting...I finally got into my hotel room at 4:30 pm... The room was nice with dark colored gray walls and some red highlights, just like the hotel itself, obviously playing off the "rouge" name...the room looks like it too needs a refresh... I took a shower and the vanity was quite small with little room for anything but some soap, an electric toothbrush, and a hairbrush...there were two glass shelves on the wall, but I couldn't put anything like underarm deodorant or pre-shave liquid on the bottom shelf because the space between it and the next shelf wasn't high enough - ugh!...the shower had good pressure, but strangely the shower curtain wouldn't stay next to the wall to prevent water from going onto the bathroom floor by the door...why?...because the shower rod wasn't level - it was hanging down and so the shower curtain wouldn't stay by the wall, it would, every time, slip about a foot from the wall...since I was only there one night, I mentioned it when I checked out and hopefully staff got it fixed...the hair dryer though worked well and it had good speeds to dry your hair quickly... The closet is a very small space with a fabric shower curtain covering it...weird and uncool... The room was drab (see pictures) looking...and the designer seemed to have a good idea about putting a red leather wraparound on the edge of the bed especially on the foot end of the bed...it wasn't wide enough to sit on, but it certainly was wide enough to hit several times as I walked around the bed... The flat screen television worked well, but the hotel's selection of video channels sucked!...no TBS, no Science Channel, no Discovery, etc...some sports channels, but the selection was lousy... I won't stay at this hotel again because it's just not light, airy, or inviting...the staff is pleasant, but not real friendly...the price was quite reasonable for DC, but I'd rather pay more and stay someplace else...also this hotel is across the street from the Australian Embassy and there were other embassies nearby...so, the area is nice, but it's just too far away from other parts of DC where I normally stay... A Disastrous stay ! I shared a room with a couple of strangers- they separated one massive space into 2 rooms with a partition- I cannot even begin to describe this surreal experience- In all my years of business traveling, I never thought this possible- I checked-in very late, and the hotel was sold out- no options were offered to me or to the "other guests " on the other side of the partition- the partition was also too short and heard each other sleeping & more! my bed was a pull down from the wall- UNACCPETABLE - I have yet to hear from the GM whom was absent the next day- I have paid for my room in advance, I have left this property speechless, traumatized and disgusted by the Kimpton group! Let me first say Kimpton Rouge staff were genuinely apologetic and generous. Returning from all day away, I reported housekeeping had closed bath door where I placed liter box. My 16 yo, 7 pound cat doesn't have strength to push open. But she was a trooper, holding it in til the wild dash when I returned. Overall the hotel accommodations are excellent. Great decor, good in room bar / snacks. I'm a bit disappointed in bedding (compared to Sofitel and Marriott). Kimpton has exceptional staff - and they were extremely sympathetic But be forewarned: "pet friendly" clearly means dogs. I only brought my cat because I'd been away 3 weeks. I brought disposable litter box, toys and food. There is no nearby store to buy these. I left a note for housekeeping asking they not vacuum as it frightens her. So make a clear check in request for kitty courtesy. Reception staff remarked they don't see many cats. Collapse

Was in DC as a touring couple. Our room and even bathroom was super chic and modern. It was also very big in size and roomy. The hotel room itself had all the amenities needed for a stay as well as a tv which was nice and wifi. The hallways looked a bit dated and could use brighter lighting. The location from the attractions was pretty good for the affordable price we paid. They also had a really nice bar and restaurant connected to the facility and received a $10 credit for it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only downside was the price of parking. Yes, DC is a tourist area so parking could be far fetched, but after all the fees included in the price, $50 parking was a little excessive to me. There was one hotel that was also in a good location offering $20 parking but unfortunately was fully booked for that weekend. Overall I would say I would recommend this hotel to travelers and couples more so than families. Collapse
