Stayed here for the 2 night B & B plus 1 evening meal package from Thursday - Saturday. This is a traditional hotel with accommodation attached to an old hall conveniently situated half way between Chester and Wrexham and near to the Wales / England border. Our room was on the 1st floor (Room 23) overlooking the garden. It had all you would need fro a short stay, but with just a smallish window and net curtains was too dark for my liking. Meals are taken in the adjoining 'Oasis' restaurant placed in the far end of the building. The evening meal give a good choice of 3 courses with a max of £20 each with the deal (gave you 2 courses). The food was well cooked and substantial, but as is often the case mid-week in these type of hotels very quiet with only 4 tables taken at 8pm. Service was good and staff pleasant. No real ale available on handpumps, but a fair choice of other drinks available. Now to the criticism - on the 2nd night (Friday) there was a wedding on which had loud music blaring away near our room until 1 am in the morning. Why did they not put us in another room round the back, which would not have meant there was so much of an intrusive cacophony in the 'small hours' when most people of our age are fast asleep? If an hotel wants to fill up their rooms with non wedding paying guests than this issue must be sorted! Collapse

We held our parents 70th Wedding anniversary here, they had also booked in for the night. Nothing was too much trouble, they were allocated a ground floor room as my mom finds difficulty with the stairs. The room was lovely and on arrival the staff had put a fantastic bouquet of flowers in the room as present for them, together with a card. The meal was in Oscar's for 29 people. we had put in a pre order and again, the service was exemplary. The food was tasty and we all enjoyed it. They even provided a cake stand with plates for us to enjoy the anniversary cake afterwards. At all times every single member of staff was courteous, pleasant and helpful. We would definitely come here again. Collapse

I stayed here for one night with my young son and uncle. Check-in was very quick and we were greeted very nicely. We had a family suite that was directly beside the lobby/reception room. It was spacious and the window opened overlooking the front garden. Everything was very nicely done from white duvet covers to biscuits on the mugs at the coffee/tea station. The bathroom was large, though a bit tired looking. I did find the room (#1) quite loud at times because it is directly beside the lobby and the walls are extremely thin. I could hear a telephone conversation very clearly as I was trying to fall asleep at 9:30. All in all, the location and gardens are very good, and the women at reception were very pleasant. I would certainly return if I was in the area. Collapse

We stayed recently for a family wedding and let me tell you this place is a gem! We are from the Wrexham area so didn't have far to travel but it is like another world when you get there. We arrived during a busy period due to others attending the wedding checking in too and so the check in desk was busy. With only 1 person on reception dealing with already tipsy wedding goers this could have been tricky, however the receptionist handled it with skill and calmness, effective banter and moving on skills politely ushering others back to the bar area after check in. The lady who I believe was also called Sarah (great name by the way) joked with us about having the same name and our sons also having the same name made us feel welcome and in good care. She made a lovely effort to speak to our little boy and let him ding the service bell (he loved this) we checked in and she made sure to ask if the room was OK when we passed back through. The room was beautiful, clean and fresh we loved it. Lots of room for us all. Only issue was lack of towels and milk in room but we rang 0 to reception and Sarah made sure this was replenished for us. The managers were fab ensuring we were all comfy during the meal and food was amazing. The gardens were beautifully kept and in keeping with the period building. Mick the manager was available throughout the day which considering it seems to be a busy hotel is very impressive. Bar was a little slow but the staff very friendly and efficent once seen to. There was a young man with a beard rushing round who seemed to be busy constantly. Staff really do bend over backwards. Hopefully we will be lucky enough to attend another wedding there in the future. Collapse

We stayed at the hotel for two nights for a wedding (not at the hotel). Having driven for over 4 hours to get there the receptionist was already dealing with a guest. Initially as she didn't make eye contact with us we brushed it aside as she was already talking to this guest however when it was our turn she didn't even say hello or lookup from her desk, just "checking in?" Not really the greeting we were expecting having had a long drive and checking into a hotel at £90 a night. The hotel room was clean and comfortable however the sink plug was stuck in the sink making it insurable.havibg reported it to the same receptionist it was not fixed for the remainder of our stay meaning we had to clean our teeth (and my husband had to shave) over the bath. Our room was not turned over for the second night which is fine but meant tea etc wasn't replenished. The final morning the restaurant was busy meaning we had to wait for a table. Food wasn't restocked and the tea we ordered never arrived. Better service at a Premium Inn (and cheaper too). Collapse
