Just returned from a 7 night stay at Hotel Roc Lago Rojo. A brilliant place if you're looking to stay in God's waiting room - not so good if you have a young family. This was my first every holiday in a different country and maybe I was expecting too much. The gentleman on the reception desk was very warm to the Spanish contingent ahead of us checking in - but more methodical and cold in his approach to ourselves. Upon checking in we found our room was nicely made and very clean - but very dated and the beds resembled more butlins than 4* hotel. The smell from the drains in the bathroom was a little off putting but with the door closed you don't really notice it. Our stay came with breakfast and an evening meal. Out of 7 nights there was one good evening of food. I suppose it would be difficult to cater for everybody but I didn't feel a fair attempt was made. Bar prices were shockingly expensive - €9.50 for a Jack Daniels and Coke! On the whole I would stay again however I wouldn't say this is a 4* hotel anymore. But it was extremely clean and the roof terrace was brilliant in the sun. Collapse

I expected a **** hotel on the beach (???) and found a ** hotel. To reach the beach we had to pass to narrow access between two blocks where they said that the hotel was only 50 meter from the beach, if you leave the hotel at Calle Miami the beach is more then 150 meter. You can see the see only from the rooftop. The entrance is cold and very small. Lucky that we received free internet on the room because the really free internet is only in the too small lobby, in the dining room and the bar (both next to the lobby) was no free internet. But the food was not sad but very sad, the cutlery is often not clean. the water for the ice cream creator is never clean. Even water on the table is to paid. The waiters and the other personnel did their very best, they were really huge super. We slept every night very well in a rather to small be, the room was not really pleasant, a to small table fridge on the ground, at the seat in the salon we sat on iron. so every day we sat on a plastic chair. The noise of the adjacent rooms was often too loud. During our stay we visited other **** hotels in the area (Torremolinos - Benalmadena) and the difference was horrifically large. The people we met in the hotel was very kindly. but many were not satisfied by the food and the hotel in General Our next stay will certainly be in a different hotel. Collapse

Just back from a 3 night stay with friends to celebrate a friends up coming wedding. Welcome at reception was fine but with a large group checking in would have thought they would have had more than one person on reception. Rooms were large and clean but a little tired especially the bathrooms. Beds were comfortable and TV had a few English speaking channels. We booked full board but drinks including water you had to pay for. Breakfast you were able to have juice and hot beverages free. Food was a variety of cold meats, salad and a few hot food options and deserts. Sometimes a little cold there was a microwave to heat up if needed. Waiting staff were constantly busy and at busy times you had to wait for some tables to be cleared to get a seat. On our first night we tried several times to get waiter to take a drinks order but ignored us. Even when one of us went up to a waiter and point out our table looking to order a drink no one came. Not a good start. Swimming pool closed as it was been retiled and the hot tub on top floor was also out of use. If you plan to go in the winter months be prepared to lack of full facilities and staying in what you could call a large retirement home! Hotel didn't appear to have any child activities so I wouldn't recommend it for families. It is located close to beach which has some play areas. I would say in the summer months the hotel would have more mix of age groups. Drinks in the bar were expensive (close to €10 for a spirit and mixer). Collapse

I would personally return and give this hotel another go but out of a group of 33 of us there were mixed reviews to it. We were a been party of all ages, from 21 years old to 63. Some loved their rooms, some didn't. Some thought food was good, some didn't. I can't fault Petra at reception. She was extremely friendly and each of our rooms were given a free bottle of wine and as the Bride to be, I got a free upgrade to a top floor room with sea view. The room was huge, as was the bathroom. Beds were comfy. Extra pillows supplied and a good balcony. So we were definitely happy. However the internet in the rooms had to be paid for, as did the safe. There were free alternatives for both in reception but it is nice to have that in your room. We were half board but it was a waste of money. Poor restaurant service in night 1 put us off the other 2 nights - we couldn't even get a glass of water. Only 2 staff on for the whole floor. Food was just ok. Breakfast didn't have a lot of hot food on offer but the continental style things were plentiful. It was a pity the pool and Jacuzzi were not open, nor the terrace bar as such a big crowd of us would have enjoyed all 3. The terrace was a nice area to relax in though. Bar prices are horrendous. I bought 1 Jack and coke the whole time because it was 9 euro 50 cents! My friend paid 17 euros for a double. What the hell! Entertainment seemed non existent. Location was good if you enjoy being very close to a beach and other bar and restaurant options. The hotel were also good enough to only charge 50 euros for damage to a bathroom door in one of the rooms. Rooms were serviced every day but wardrobes need hangers with hooks to hold vest tops and dresses Collapse
