Summarising the good points first: * Overall staff were friendly and courteous with Petra (front desk) proving very efficient and helpful. Juan in the bar served drinks with a smile. * Location of hotel good, close to shops, bars and seafront * Bedrooms clean and well made-up by cleaning team Summarising the negative points: * hotel is dated * Not enough staff on the floor during mealtimes and also within the bar area. Clearance of tables was slow especially at peak meal times. * Coffee machines in dining area are crap. Perhaps it is the quality of the coffee used * Food - not great in my opinion, better selection and presentation at other 4 Star Spanish hotels that I have stayed at * Beds I found to be okay unlike other review comments regarding firmness of mattress. Down to personal choice i suppose. Twin beds only available throughout the hotel, we were informed that the hotel had only four (4) double beds !!! * Bedroom was spacious, but dated. Balconies small. * Bathroom area with shower over bath not to my liking, no separate shower. Toilet area tight against a wall, not suitable for persons of larger proportions. * Soundproofing within bedrooms was crap, noise from adjacent rooms, guests within corridors, noise from the plumbing / water systems very much in evidence * Pool area poor, small, not very imaginative or enticing. A total enclosed area, well shaded i would imagine even on the hottest of days. * Rooftop area / hot-tub - cannot comment on this area as we did not make use of it due to the inclement weather. This section appeared fine with bar area available with restricted service time slots during off season months e.g. November Overall We had an "okay" stay at this hotel, would I go back again I am afraid my answer would be "no" Collapse

How this hotel got a 4 star rating is behind me, the beds are rock hard, when I asked for a bed topper to help soften I was told by a very snotty male receptionist , Estas brome ado, (You must be joking) he thought I didn't speak Spanish. Went down for our first breakfast and it was like cattle market, there was only one waiter clearing tables, it was total chaos, we cleared our own in the end, the food was constantly running out and loads of people were complaining, reception again , no help at all. The walls in the rooms are paper thin and every noise from 2 floors could be clearly heard. Overhall it's the worst 4 star hotel I have stopped in by far and we have been around a good bit. Collapse

we're moved to this hotel as the one we had booked was unavailable for some reason, very pleased with the location and friendly staff, however unable to get sunbeds on rooftop area due to selfish residents putting towels on beds and not appearing till hours later, went to nearby beach, Holiday spoilt by two londoners playing music and singing til 5am, took 3 attempt for staff to move us, clients like that should have been thrown out, pool in shade . food, plenty choice and varied , hotel very clean , bar prices expensive Collapse

New rooms which look already outdated...new build with broken walls.....bathroom smells like a sewer. Staff is not unfriendly but also not friendly. No asking 'how was your trip', not asking 'how was your stay'. Breakfast was OK, but clumsy and coffee machines are old and do not work properly. Theme dinners were..... well.... stick to your theme.... Asian is Asian an not 10% Asian; Italian is Italian and not only a pasta and some starter. Missed chances here..... Top roof was OK.... but take action on those Dutch and Germand who make reservations with their towels. Collapse

We reviewed Hotel ROC Lago Rojo, Carihuela, Costa del Sol after our first visit in 2011 and have just completed our fifth visit with three weeks from 25th Oct to 15th November 2016. As on most previous visits, we were on full board. This was a wise decision as the variety and quality of the food has improved distinctly within the past year. Congratulations to the chef, kitchen staff and management who are clearly investing more in the food side of the hotel; the lunches were especially good - it was a matter of choosing what not to have rather than what to eat. Some Trippers have commented negatively on the rush in the evening and the consequences of that - queuing, for example. As when we originally reviewed, there is one sitting and people can arrive when they wish, from 1830 to 2100. There is an inevitable rush when so many people want to dine at the same time - as early as possible - perhaps afraid that the food would run out! Our solution was to choose to dine after the early evening rush - still fresh food, still great choice and, sometimes, even a different meat dish or two. The alternative of two distinct sittings would probably also irritate some customers who like the flexibility of choosing when to dine. The Hotel is catering to a very multinational range of clients, with differing food preferences so there was always a wide range to choose from. We dined at the hotel for about 17 of our 21 days and did not have one lunch that was less than GOOD, most being VERY GOOD. Of the evening meals, most were GOOD, some were VERY GOOD and one or two were UNINTERESTING (an Asian evening and an Italian, neither of which would interest us but which appeared popular with other diners). The hotel was very busy during our stay and it is good to see that the rooms are being refurbished over time, though the same physical shape remains - a Junior suite with separate sleeping, living and bathroom areas (the bathroom is old-fashioned in its design). The suite was spacious enough for us to spend 21 days there without feeling claustrophobic or cooped up. As others have commented, it is irritating that fellow guests block sunbeds on the terrace for hours on end by just leaving their belongings on them. Perhaps Management might be able to sort out this problem - and it is an irritating problem. All in all, we feel that Lago Rojo deserves its four star status within its category as a well managed value hotel with decent facilities, good food and an ideal location for a relaxed holiday. We are certainly looking forward to returning to Lago Rogo in 2017, with its efficient chambermaids, smiling waiting staff and welcoming reception staff. Muchas gracias!! Collapse
