Three nights together with my daughter & 4 year old grand-daughter. A nice short break though the flight timing was such as to make the travel tedious. Spent some time by the hotel pool where the 4 year old had a great time - didn't want to leave. She made a good friend of about the same age. Service at the hotel pool was good - nice cafeteria lunch. Spent a day going to Malaga: an easy trip by train from near the hotel. Took the roun city bus tour - highly recommended - highlights were visit to the Picasso Museum. Congratulations to the Spanish football team & the Spanish supporters in Torremolinos who made a lot of noise but no drunkness or nasty behaviour. Collapse

well situated hotel in the centre of town about a 20 minute walk downhill to the beach. plenty of bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk.large reasonably comfortable room although the bed was on the hard side. main downsides were air con was pretty useless and as previous reviewers have mentioned the walls are thin and you can hear everything going on. would recommend earplugs if you're a light sleeper. good buffet breakfast and staff very helpful. pleasant bar on the 2nd floor which offers happy hour from 5-6 and 11-12 along with some evening entertainment. We stayed at the Roc Flamingo last week. Firstly it's location is perfect. It's right in the resort centre on the main through road so it's great for getting picked up and dropped off. Great for buses, train and the beach.Yes the hotel is in need of its face lift which is in the pipeline, but the place is clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room 512 had a small balcony and not a great view, but this isn't important to us so I didn't count that against them. The lifts only hold 6 people so they were really slow and usually full. We went bed and breakfast, but we paid to go for both a lunch and a dinner and I have to say they were great value for money, as you get soft drinks, beer and wine included in the price. The pool area is really nice and wasn't busy at this time of year which may have been the reason there didn't seem to be any bar staff early on. It was hot by 10am and a lemonade would have been appreciated but usually there was no one there and one day we went to order food around 1pm at the pool and were told we couldn't have any as they were busy with food for the dining room. It didn't bother us as we just went out. The reason I dropped a star and it's not really the hotels fault, is the noise. The air-con is very noisy so we switched it off most of the time. The walls seem really thin. Our neighbour got a wake up phone call (we assumed) which we heard...and it didn't get answered so it rang several times which was annoying. The doors of the rooms are also quite stiff and heavy and bang quite a bit. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Flamingo and would have no hesitation recommending it or indeed staying again. Collapse

If you are looking for somewhere with excellent bus and train links and easy access to the the town. this is the hotel for you. We traveled regularly by both bus and train, with the stops/station all within yards of the hotel. The town center was also on the doorstep and we enjoyed the buzz of walking through the town in the evening. The beach can be reached by foot, taking about 15 mins. but does mean going down and up the steps. there is a shuttle bus every 40 minutes which we used, but it does not run in the early afternoon (from memory i think it stops around 12:30 and restarts about 4 hours later). I think this is because most of the guests were elderly Spanish who may like a siesta. This was annoying, since we sometimes wanted to go to/from the beach around/just after lunchtime, but the bus did not run then. The food was good with dinner having a good a mix of seafood (including mussels, ray wings and prawns - much to my wife's delight) pork and chicken dishes, as well as plenty of soup, salads and puddings. Even on half board we had drinks included - you help yourself to wine, sangria, water, beer or soft drinks (coca cola, fanta, sprite etc.) Be warned that the red wine is served chilled - this is because the machine also serves the white wine and sangria, so everything is chilled. My wife liked all the alcoholic drinks she had with the meals - I kept to soft drinks which were good and not the watered down drinks I have had in other hotels. The pool area was small and it was difficult to get any sun, especially with people hogging the best sun beds with their towels. The hotel is popular with elderly Spanish visitors - so be prepared for some noise - their philosophy seemed to be 'why talk when I can shout'. If you like an early night I would recommend a room facing away from the pool, as the entertainment goes on until midnight and, even on the ninth floor it was noisy, there is not much chance of sleep before they finish. They also now charge 5 euros a night for a pool view. I would also warn that we struggled to sleep at all on this holiday, as other guests were incredibly noisy throughout the early hours, not just because of the entertainment. Our first night was a taste of things to come as the elderly Spanish couple next door had the TV on full blast at 1:15 am to watch a show with loud Spanish music, this was followed throughout the holiday by lots of slamming doors, loud conversations, banging and moving furniture all through the night. We have been to hotels all over Europe and have never had this problem before. The room was small but comfortable and in need of redecoration, but then they are being refurbished in a couple of weeks. The bathrooms were cramped and the toilet was difficult to sit on - it would have been better to switch the position with the bidet. As others have mentioned there is no fridge (although you can rent one for 40 euros) or tea/coffee facilities. the staff were friendly and helpful when we needed anything. Collapse

We have visited Torremolinos many times, always in the summer & in a beachfront hotel (as we did this year). As this was an 'extra' holiday, we wanted a cheap week away in the sun & the Roc Flamingo seemed excellent value for money. It is in a very central position, very close to the train station (a few minutes walk if you are looking for a cheap transfer from the airport). The hotel is very dated and is in serious need of a refurbishment. However, our bedroom was a good size. The balcony, overlooking the pool, was very small, as was the bathroom. The furniture & decor is quite drab (especially the bathroom - chipped tiles, rusty sink), but I believe these are being updated later this year. It was clean, though, and perfectly functional. Breakfast was good. Enough choice of hot and cold dishes, and the food was replenished regularly. Dinner was a bit of a let down. The food was fine, but was very repetitive and definitely not enough choice. A week was long enough. There was, however, complimentary drinks at dinner. A choice of water, beer, soft drinks, red/white wine & sangria. This was a nice touch. Usually we've had to pay for drinks with our meal. The pool area is a good size. We didn't use the sunbeds, as they didn't get much sun (there are a lot of trees overlooking the area), but we sat at the tables surrounding the pool and it was lovely. There was entertainment on every night (bingo, singers, dancers, birds of prey show etc). We usually went out & about at night as the hotel is so close to the main Calle San Miguel shopping area, where there are loads of bars and lots of people watching to do. It's a lovely walk down to the beachfront & the elevator is really handy for getting back up! It's only 50 cents each. Bear in mind, though, it closes at 10pm just now (much later in the summer). There are loads of bars near the hotel, though, and it has a Happy Hour between 11pm & midnight (also between 5pm & 6pm). We were Half Board, but it also has an All Inclusive option. This runs from 11am to 11pm. The staff in the hotel were all very friendly & helpful. The guests were mostly older couples when we were there (as are we!) All things considered, we would return in the future if looking for a cheap & cheerful week away. Collapse
