This is our third stay at the River Palace and again you can't really fault it The location is very convenient just before Piazza Poppolo which gives access to the main shopping strip Via Del Corso and off here you will find the Spanish Steps and The Pantheon and Piazza Navona The uMetro is a ten minute walk away if that so the location is fine The hotel itself has some rooms which are very small (standard room) which we have never stayed in as they look quite claustrophobic however the deluxe rooms are a good size The quirky thing about here is the lift to get you beyond the first floor which you have to use - it's very small - lift to the first floor standard size This time we treated ourselves and stayed in the Villa Borghese which is a suite on the 8th floor - I have to say I was a little disappointed - the advantage of this room is that it has a large balcony with two sets of furniture on it and in spring summer this must be wonderful and even in December we used it three times however we found the room overly fuzzy and a little on the small side as if it had paid a price to have a balcony Also and this is the truth I have never stayed in a hotel room with no shower- yes there is an attachment but it can't be looked up so not trashy sure of its use - the feature of the bathroom is the jacuzzi bath which is huge and sorry I haven't got enough time in a morning to wait for this to fill up - it is also passed it's best and looks worn - we had to have maintenance up as it couldn't produce any hot water - this was rectified only to fault again the day after - we couldn't be bothered to phone again as we had no intention of waiting half a hour to have a bath - my recommendation to the hotel is to rep it out put in a nice bath with a shower over it - this room is £200 per night!! The couple of good things about here is the 'happy hour' which I think starts at 5.00pm where wine and other drinks are half price and nibbles are served at the bar Italians call this Aperotivo (not sure of the spelling) Also the breakfast is good but there is nothing cooked fresh for you e.g. Omelettes etc and the bacon was always cold when we had it but there is a great choice so it was only a little gripe Another thing about the room there was no information about the hotel and its services which is a little odd Overall if you choose here you won't be disappointed because it offers great value for money - check out some other hotels they are not cheap As we've now been to Rome three times not sure when we will come back but if we did we would try elsewhere now only so we have something to compare the hotel with One last tip if you want to see Rome completely decorated and lit up for Christmas you need to leave it until about the 10th of December as now they are still decorating it and not everything is lit up Collapse

The hotel is very close to the Piazza del Popolo but is quiet and this is conducive to a good night's sleep. We stayed in a superior double room. It was very clean and comfortable. The room was a little small in size but this was not. a problem for us. A turn down service is provided in the evening too. Breakfast choice was excellent and service was good. The hotel has a good happy hour from 5 until 10 pm each evening. The main hotel areas are comfortable, exceptionally clean and the decor is pleasing. Staff in all areas are friendly and always eager to assist with information. Everything for us was within walking distance of the hotel. Collapse

Loved everything about this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. The happy hour spread was incredible. The Pantheon is 1.1mile away so we walked over. The walk was easy the street is full of shops to look at or stop in during the walk. We were prepared for the room being a little small thanks to other reviews. We didn't mind. The shower was a lot smaller than expected but you get used to it. We weren't in the room much we got up got dressed and went on tours by the time we got back we were exhausted and went straight to bed. My fiance (now husband) and I went to Rome to elope. When we returned from our ceremony the hotel manager sent up a bottle of Champagne. It was very generous and we definitely appreciated it.Overall it was a great choice picking the River Palace. The hotel entrance and corridors are very grand, so I expected slightly more from the rooms. They are typically decorated (nice touch of painting a blue summer sky on the ceiling) but there isn't much room to move as the bed takes up most of the room. The breakfast is lovely, offering hot and cold options. It is well located in Rome, and easy to find. I was in room 307 and the only down side (other than the size of the room) was the fact that either the walls are very thin or I was right next to some water pipes, but there was a fairly regular water noise that made it sound like it was chucking it down with rain outside. I sleep like a log so it didn't affect me, but if you are a light sleeper, room 307 isn't for you Collapse
