Stayed here 3 nights at the start of our vacation. Seriously jet lagged upon arrival we were able to get into a room a bit before check in which we really appreciated. We booked a superior room and were offered an upgrade (one night free, then we could switch back or pay a supplement). We kept our room because it was on a higher floor and didn't want to move things after a night. The upgraded room had a tub and was bigger, but otherwise similar to the room we booked. Area is near attractions but in a quieter area at night so street noise wasn't an issue. AC in room was great. Bathroom was a nice size, though shower may be narrow for some, my husband found it a tight squeeze. Hotel staff was very friendly and professional. Walkable to area attractions but also close to metro. Collapse

We just returned from an 8 night stay in Rome and stayed at the River Palace...and let me tell you, it was amazing. Before even arriving in Italy, the hotel reached out and made sure that we would be picked up by private car (for a reasonable price) and taken to the hotel. They were very accommodating with holding our bags, as we got in very early in the morning. Once time to check in, the front desk staff gave us a selection of two rooms (the one we booked, or an upgraded one with a much larger bathroom and in a secluded courtyard section of the hotel). We did not feel pressured to "upgrade"...it was just a genuine concern for our comfort as we were staying over a week. The graciousness from the front desk staff, housekeeping, and the breakfast staff continued the entire week...always friendly, smiling, and willing to help. The room itself was immaculately kept and extremely clean. Turndown service was given every night with candy and a next day weather report. Housekeeping was great and the room was made up perfectly every day. Once major perk of the hotel was the free breakfast buffet offered every morning in an adorable breakfast room...that felt like a five star restaurant. The selection of food was vast and delicious, with meats, eggs, cheeses, pastries, cereals, juices, teas, and fruits. Also, any type of coffee you wanted (espressos) would be made to order. The staff here were also exceptional. The hotel itself is a 2 minute (if that) walk to the metro station and is surrounded by multiple restaurants and markets. It is across the street from Piazza Del Popolo...so the location is excellent. The ONLY downside to the hotel is that the air conditioning didn't get quite as cool as I would have liked, but this was a small concern as the bed was comfortable and the room was so pleasant. Also, many movies and TV stations for those of us that didn't speak Italian. There was also a minibar with cheap snacks and drinks. Upon leaving, the front desk staff made car arrangements to take us to the airport...which was perfectly on time. I would HIGHLY recommend the River Palace for any stay in Rome. Thanks! Collapse

We stayed here for a 2 night stop before heading out on a longer trip in Italy. The Hotel is just great. Great staff, great breakfast and great location. First up - Rome is expensive, and properties tend to be smaller. Although our room was gorgeous, it was small - and by small, I mean really small. Not a problem for a couple, for a couple of days. If you need space, pay for a Deluxe room. The fittings and furnishings are lovely, the bathrooms are modern, clean and well-appointed. Amenities are generous and high quality - I really liked the room. Breakfast can be a mixed bag in some hotels. Not here. The dining room is spacious and well laid-out. Food (lots of food) is arranged in each space, so there's no 'crocodile line' to the food serving area. Coffee is dispensed in large flasks, always fresh and plenty of it. Lots of choice for breakfasts, so probably something to suit all tastes. Location is Brilliant, Via Flaminia is right beside Plaza Del Popolo, and has it's own Metro station. You are 10 minutes from The Spanish Steps (with views and lots of designer shopping), 15 minutes from the Pantheon. You can get to most places you want to see in under 30 mins of walking. It's a great location and we really enjoyed walking around from here if you want a taxi, the hotel will get you one, or there's a large taxi rank in the Plaza del Populo. The staff here, whether front desk, food service or rooms are all lovely, multilingual and can't do enough to help. "Bravo e Brava" to the staff at River Palace for great service and a great welcome. So. Location, Service and a great breakfast - result. My top tip - get a room facing the courtyard and buy your metro tickets at the newsagents, not the pay machines int he station (long queues) Collapse

Almost a hole-in-the wall, this charmer has a good feel to it. The welcome is warm, the lobby a place where you can find privacy while the front desk guy works out the admin for your stay. Well presented in every way, the detail of the decor escaping you unless you stop to take it in. The elevators are "cosy" and to get past the first floor you need to change cabs, the second elevator only just big enough for two and their luggage. It's a preview of our room, just big enough for two and their luggage. We didn't opt for a bigger room, staying only 2 nights. The bed occupied about 80% of the floor space so pack so you don't have to unpack, if you get my drift. The bathroom has the best heated towel rail ever, and exudes quality. Everything works well and the room size soon becomes a non-issue. The housekeeping is excellent and the room was quiet. The tariff included breakfast and in a pleasantly surprising way was not limited to cold meats, cheese and bread. A full round-the-house breakfast is available in a quiet and cosy dining room. Your choice of real coffee with your breakfast is a big plus. The staff was courteous and unobtrusive and we had no quibbles about the bed or pillows, both of which are highly subjective, of course. Location is quite good and the walk to most places of interest is what we needed for the relief of jet lag and cramped seats for the economy class travellers that we are. We recommend this little gem for its friendly staff, good location and warm atmosphere. Collapse
