Just back from a week in NYC. This hotel is a great base to explore the city, the rooms are small, clean and compact! The breakfast was very poor, the plates were dirty and the bread wasn't fresh, there is a good selection of food but as breakfast is served over a few hours in the morning it may be a hit or miss depending on what time you go down. I would come back to this hotel but it is quite expensive in comparison to other hotels in the area and considering NYC is a very active holiday not a lot of time is spent in your room. Collapse
Great central location

First time in New York and booked Riu Plaza as part of a package holiday with British Airways to be here for St Patrick’s Day. Trust me, you will not be disappointed! The hotel is busy, modern and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is satisfactory with good selection of hot or cold food. The restaurant can be busy but waiting time short. Our room is is on 27th floor with amazing views of Hudson River. The room is a deluxe king size and has all we require for comfort. So far we have walked everywhere and have seen most of the recommended sights (and we are both over 60). We still have 3 days left of our 7 day trip and loads more to explore!! Collapse
Amazing hotel, fantastic location and facilities. 10/10 it really is the perfect base to explore New York.

Wow! We were so happy with our choice. We stayed in a room for 4 adults and it was a great size! We were pleasantly surprised! We had 2 large doubles and a sofa bed. Our room was on the 25th floor which meant we also had fantastic views of the city. Reviews saying rooms were small gave us concerns before travelling but we shouldn’t have worried there was more than enough room for us all and 4 large suitcases. Another concern was the frosted glass for the shower - again total unecessary to be worried - yes it is glass but at most you can see a slight shadow/ silhouette nothing more so not a problem. The location is superb - less than a 2 minute walk to the heart of Times Square. We found it perfect especially as the hop on hop off tour bus tickets that we purchased had a bus stop right outside too. The company we bought from was Top View. Concierge were great at the hotel - they even loaned us umberellas free of charge when it was pouring down and sorted us a fixed rate taxi to the airport when we checked out. The hotel itself is ultra modern and rooms were clean and modern too - the front desk staff were so friendly when we checked in - really can’t praise them enough. Another bonus was the free breakfast we got with our booking - it was great - fresh and so much choice - perfect to set you up for a busy day of sightseeing. I don’t think we could have found a better Hotel for the money. I would definitely book this hotel next time I visit it was great. USB ports at the side of the bed for charging phones without a travel plug, water in the mini bar, hair dryer - it had everything that we needed and more. Don’t hesitate to book this hotel, you won’t be disappointed. Collapse

I read other reviews before staying here and was a bit concerned. So it was with much relief when we arrived to find a clean, bright, modern hotel that offered so much. Check in and check out were both smooth and quick and front desk staff were professional and courteous. We did have an issue with luggage storage. We arrived too early to check in and had to check out several hours before our flight so we left our bags with the bellman. On both occasions it took a long time to retrieve the bags. The room was more like a bedroom than a hotel room. It was small but had floor to ceiling windows, a very comfortable Queen bed, two night stands, a fridge with complimentary bottled water, a closet with a safe, iron and ironing board and a great flat screen TV with many channels. The WiFi worked well throughout the hotel. We were on the 17th floor and heard only the very occasional siren. Otherwise it was blissfully quiet. We were very fortunate to be near other quiet guests. We could definitely hear conversations from other rooms and the doors closed with a very loud bang if you weren't careful. But thankfully we experienced very little noise at all. The room was cool but we didn't want to play around with the thermostat because of the reviews we read about the potential heating concerns at the hotel. We simply called for a blanket and were quickly delivered a comfy fleece one that even matched the mauve colours of the room. The toilet would not stop flushing at one point and nobody came when we first called the front desk. The bathroom door is only sliding glass so it doesn't help with sound proofing. So we left the room and spoke to the front desk again. We returned several hours later to find the problem fixed and there were no other problems. Regarding the bathroom, it was just smoked glass so you could see the shadow of your co-guest as they were bathing. Not a big deal. There were shower caps, skin lotion, hair conditioner and bars of soap at the large sink and a squeeze bottle of body soap/shampoo on the wall of the shower. This squeeze bottle ran empty during our visit and was not automatically replaced. We had to call the front desk to have one delivered. The food at breakfast was ample and perfect for us. We have food allergies yet we had a lot of choice. There were bagels and breads, cereals, orange juice, coffee and several kinds of tea. The hot chocolate was a highlight for one in our party. Scrambled and sunny-side-up eggs, two kinds of sausage, bacon, waffles /pancakes and breakfast potatoes with peppers made up the hot portion of the buffet while there was smoked salmon, ham, salami and several cheeses in the cold section. There was also fresh fruit including various melons and pineapple. Last but not least was the excellent location of this hotel. Attending shows was our main reason for our trip. By staying here we never had more than a 10-minute walk from any theatre. At the same time we were just short walks to the subway, Times Square, the New York Times and the Hop-on Hop-off tour buses. The Riu concierge staff, near the front entrance, is extremely helpful and informative. Beware the tour bus ticket sellers outside the hotel (and all over Times Square). They work on commission and are very persistent. The Riu concierge staff was very helpful in ensuring we picked the right tour without the hard sell. The concierge staff was also helpful in booking a reasonably priced non-stop shuttle for our return to the airport (although if you don't have much luggage, the subway is a close, fast and inexpensive option). We were very happy at the Riu. It was a pleasant home away from home and would definitely return. We enjoyed our stay and Collapse

We arrived with 3 other couples for a few days in NYC, hotel was booked through British Airways in their sale, good price with breakfast. Check-in was quick and easy all our rooms were ready, although we arrived an hour or so before official check-in opens. Unfortunately, one room was on the 23rd floor while all the others were on the 18th. Our room was 1820, (others had 1822,1824). On first inspection room was clean, great shower, comfy bed, big tv etc, (its a hotel room, your not spending every hour in it). Outside room 1820, there is a plumbers cupboard,on the first night all we could hear was the buzzing coming from within. The following morning we reported it to reception, they said they would send someone up to investigate, on returning from a day out we returned to our room and the buzzing was still there, told reception again, was told again they would investigate, To cut a long story short, the buzzing was there all week but we were so tired that we completely forgot about it until we woke up. As for breakfast, great selection to keep any appetite happy, there is a 24hr Dunkin' Donuts directly opposite the hotel, for all you early risers who need a coffee fix before breakfast, (breakfast doesn't open until 0730). All in all, very happy with hotel, one block from Times Square, if we go back to New York, wouldn't hesitate to look at this hotel again. Just not room 1820. Collapse
