This was a trip for my daughters 21st and we had asked for a room with a view and a higher floor. We arrived to check in and the lady checking us in seems hassled. We ended up on the 8th floor with no view. When we went to bed that night I noticed that the springs on my side of the bed had in some way collapsed and the mattress was lop sided! We didn't complain as every time we walked by reception it was always so busy. On 4 occasions we had to return to reception as the key card wouldn't work for us and again, the staff seemed hassled and frazzled. We ate in the restaurant on one night and the food was ok but I ordered a bottle of chardonnay from the menu. The server came back confirming that they were out of chardonnay. I then ordered pinot and he returned again to say that all they have was sauvingon! I brought my glass of wine to the room on the 2nd night to finish it and the glass was still in my room when we left 4 days later! Positives - Room is small but functional for 2 people. Everything was very clean when we arrived. Lifts are busy but not too much delay at all. Hotel is 3 min walk from times square and there are plenty of coffee shops etc around it. Breakfast was in a large area but was constantly busy. Food was good with a large range of hot and cold items. Wifi is "free" however on leaving expect approx £130 extra on your bill for taxes and hotel charges! Collapse

Visited riu plaza 17-22 April.. lovely modern hotel right in the heart of new york... ( times square) Check in pretty straight forward and quick...some reception staff were lovely, others forgot they were the first face of the hotel and were pretty lacking in manners and personality.. Gorgeous bar and coffee shop with Apple crumble donuts to die for.. Brekky... Very busy buffet style Plenty of choice for drinks and food Hot food - not hot ( didn't really bother me but some will find it a major downfall) Bagels, cheeses, cereals, pancakes, toast, nutella, maple syrup, pastries and muffins... there's plenty to go at if luke warm scrambled egg ain't your thing.. Was my birthday when there and they brought me cake and sang to me which was a nice touch.. Room.... Spacious, clean, comfortable, modern... Loads of towels No tea or coffee making...took our own kettle which took an age to boil but kept us going.. .you can actually take drinks from brekky to your room. Hairdryer was fast but my hair styling tool just didn't work on their voltage.. .my friends straighteners seemed ok though.. Little fridge in room and lots of wardrobe space ( only one tiny drawer though) and free safe.. So so so noisy from the street outside...incessant beeping of horns but I defy you to find a central hotel where this isn't the case. Room cleaned daily... Would I go back to this hotel? Yes Collapse
Poor service for the money.

The decor of the hotel was cool and very European, however, the other things about the hotel will cause me to never stay there again. (#3 below is the main reason). 1)The room was hot, and I'm pretty sure the thermostat was just for looks - didn't seem broken, just seemed fake. I called downstairs to ask for someone to come up but no one ever did. 2)They didn't have bottled water available on the property after their store closed. I'm not even kidding. I was relatively ok with no ice machines and not a vending machine on site (too American for this cool Euro-prop), but when I went to the bar to buy bottled water, he only had 2 bottles. Again, ok with that, but the next night I went back and he had none. None on the property. I went to the front desk and actually had to complain that it seemed crazy to spend $815 for 2 nights and I can't buy bottled water??? After a few minutes of complaining, the front desk clerk went to a manager who was listening in the background at a desk, but never atttemped to come intervene, and he ok'ed the release of 3 bottles of water from some secret place in the back. It was just weird. 3)The final and biggest issue making this property a poor choice for any traveler....When we were ready to leave, I gave the hotel attendant my parking reciept. He said the car would be around in 20 minutes because of traffic. This was at 4:07 pm. I didn't not get my car until 5:10 pm. It was ridiculous. He forgot to put the request in the system to retrieve the car from the parking company that they contract with. I found this out after waiting for 30 minutes and going up to ask what the deal was. It took another 30 minutes to get the car after they realized their mistake. At this point, I insisted they bring our bags to the front, because I didn't want to lose more time once the car finally arrived. Our large duffle was missing, and a back pack belonging to someone else was on our cart. So after all this waiting time, I asked the bellman to ask the manager if she would consider paying the $120 for my parking, since I lost an hour because of their mistake and I also would have lost a duffle bag filled with valuable shoes. The bellman came back telling me the manager said she can't and won't pay it, and the only way I would get it paid was if the hotel employee himself would pay for his mistake." Totally unprofessional. Total disregard for hotel guest. The kicker is that the gentleman who worked for the parking company, and brought me my car (not an RIU employee), told me "they will probably pay for it, they've done it before". So I know that the woman who was the manager on duty, on Friday, April 21st around 5 - 5:30, simply didn't care. Please reconsider staying here. If you like the decor, go to the bar for a drink. We've stayed at the Crown Plaza when my girls want to go to Times Square and it was very nice and the rooms were twice the size. They were booked so we tried RIU. Collapse

Riu Plaza is ideally situated 400 metres from Times Square and is very modern hotel with nice decor and very nice staff. We stayed in room 2301 on the 23rd floor and the views were great. The room was made every day with clean towels supplied, a great walk in bathroom , huge beds a large TV. The buffet breakfast was great with a very well run team seating a lot of people very quickly. The choice for breakfast was very good with everything you could think of to start the long New York day. Bar staff were good and we ate one evening in the restaurant which was lovely.25 mins walk to Central Park . All in all a good Hotel choice for New York City. Collapse

Wow, wow, wow... Riu said they had been looking for 10 years for the right place in New York, well let me tell you, they have. What a stunning location, fantastic hotel and great staff. This hotel is literally 2 minute walk(when you can cross the road that is) from Times Square. It's central to everything you want to do, where you want to go. Can't fault this place at all. When we checked in, there was confusion with my booking, but this could have been due to us rescheduling our break, all resolved quickly and our room upgraded to boot. The rooms were lovely, functional but lovely, I mean you don't go to New York to live in your hotel room, bit like going to Paris. Comfy, cosy, warm, room with a view. Well done Riu, we loved it, we will be back to the same place with our girls. Oh and when in New York... use Uber, best way to travel by far. Don't know why I'm begging this hotel up.... it will be booked up now when I want to go back cos you all gonna book it lol... go ahead, it's great. Collapse
