Normally we stay at Renaissance Midtown Manhattan which is ALWAYS AMAZING! but this time my husband mixed up locations on reservation and we ended up at Renaissance 57... big mistake! On Thursday morning we arrived at Renaissance 57early so we although we were hopeful we were prepared for room not to be ready, so we drop bags and head out to breakfast.Upon our return stop in lounge ( as we are gold members) no beverages available and a dismal lounge:( not what we are used to as the Renaissance Midtown lounge is readily stocked with a variety of beverages) soo ok guess we will just go to room .We wait awhile for elevator to take us to 16th floor arrive in room 1606..room has strange layout with a connecting door? view is non existent .. I am definitely NOT at Renaissance Midtown where we always get Amazing views. Any how we unpack and head out determined to enjoy NYC we do and have a late night.Fast forward to Friday morning .. our plan was to sleep in. Curtains had been drawn prior to bed were sleeping late!.... NOT!! phone in room begins ringing at 7:30 am!! back to back and each time we answer ..NOTHING! finally we call downstairs to front desk they have o idea why phone is ringing and it actually rings while we are talking to them!! come to find out the mysterious "door" was an employee office/lounge and the phone line in there is crossed with our room so every time the hotel gets a call it rings in our room!! so now we are completely awake unfortunately and decide to just start the day. We leave our room at 9am with a plan to shop and explore the city come back before 8:30pm dinner plans take a nap and get dressed. we return to our room at 5:30pm .... Room has NOT been cleaned ..no beds made .. no clean towels. we call down to front desk again .. another apology:( they offer to send housekeeping we request they come at 7:30pm explaining what happened that morning and a need to rest before dinner. Front desk agrees , we prepare to take nap right?.. WRONG!! as soon as we lay down there is loud talking and laughter from the mystery room that connects to ours!! the employees are on break and apparently are having a BLAST! we ask them to quiet down explaining we are directly on the other side of door. Finally we can get at least 45 min nap before dinner.. WRONG again!! here comes housekeeping knocking at 6:30//!! WTH!! so now sleep interrupted its time to dress for dinner and they only bring two bath towels no wash clothes!! WTH is going on Marriott?? now after all this we are given apologies and promise of 20,00 marriott points for inconvenience .. I get home check our Marriott account and what do I see ?? only 10,00 points added . :((!! WORSE Marriott hotel experience EVER!! Never staying at Renaissance 57 again only gave it two stars for location. Oh and the phone call email from management we were promised has yet to come 4 days later.. we will be contacting corporate office. Collapse

Had a room with 2 double beds for my family of 2 adults and 2 kids. Was quite disappointed with the size of the room. Not much space to move around the bed. Hit my shin at the bed corner and ended up with a massive bruise! Rooms were dated and greatly in need of a renovation. Location of the hotel was fantastic though, 10min walk to central park, under 10mins to 5th ave, about 20min to time square and subway just 2 blocks away. Collapse
Great hotel, but terrible concierge lounge offerings.

I'm currently at the hotel. I've stayed here probably 5 times and one of the things I like the most is that the concierge lounge has a great breakfast. Espresso machine, nice food offerings, water and diet coke in the mini fridge. Well...I guess it's since the restaurant at the hotel is closed for renovations but the breakfast is beyond bad. Scrambled eggs with slices of American cheese (seriously? This is currently a $400 to $500 / night hotel. American cheese?) and poor quality cold ham. Crusty oatmeal, crappy sliced bread and fruit that tastes like it's leftover. If you're lucky enough to get any. Today the espresso machine wasn't working right, and the press pots of coffee were empty too. The fruit was almost gone and not replenished by 8:30 am and the eggs were cold. The bowl of mixed up kinds of yogurt didn't add anything. Yes there are still waters in the little fridge, but no diet coke. Ok, a small thing. But it's one of the little things I like about it. I was told that they ran out, then was told that they have some but have to save them for mixing at the bar in the evenings.... The elevators are driving everyone crazy they're so slow. It's a joke between everyone as it's so bad. On the plus side, the rooms are clean, small as everything is in NYC, and the staff is great. Even the housecleaning people are friendly and happy. As of today - hooray - I'm lifetime Platinum and have seen it all. I don't feel like this is quite up to the standards I've experienced in the past. I was hoping for an upgrade but they said since I'm here for 8 nights they can't do an upgrade for that many nights. I'm not feeling like a valued Lifetime Platinum member for sure. Hey, offer up an upgrade for my last few nights, even if it's a room change. I'm flexible! I might have to find a new home away from home in NYC. Collapse

Stayed at this hotel this week, was there for 2 nights. I can say I was disappointed. The first room I got had a wet carpet and although i was changed to another room it left a bit of a bad first impression. The rooms are very dated and small not worth the money asked. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment which means there is no restaurant or breakfast etc. If I had known that before booking I wouldn’t have booked. On a positive the staff after really great and very polite. Internet is great and good for business emails etc. Location is very good and you can walk to a lot of places Once the hotel is renovated it might be better but until then I am not sure I would book here again. Great location - close to metro and within walking distance to Central Park and most other tourist sites. Hotel has a funky/artsy vibe, rooms are a decent size and well maintained. The hotel restaurant was closed at the time of our stay (under renovations), however this was not a concern to us. The staff were probably the highlight - very friendly and helpful. Collapse
