On our way back from two weeks in Disney and glorious hotels, we arrived in the rain to find an unwelcoming hotel. The entrance to this monstrously large hotel is tiny - in fact, I'm still not sure that was the right place to go - we weren't sure so I pulled up - no one came to the car, no one moved - guess it is ok to park there. Went inside and checked in. I asked how/where should we bring our luggage in. The woman stared at me and said - well, um, the parking garage is full - I can park way down THERE or over THERE she said pointing far away. Great. Granted this was a Saturday night in Nashville - guess I didn't realize how much of a party town this was. We unloaded all our luggage there at the front. They had one of those carts there but when I went to take it, the bellman wouldn't let us use it unless we hired him to move our luggage - of course... I HATE that. We only had one bag per person so we carried our own stuff up. While we were doing all of this, the lobby had maybe 50 people in and was so loud I couldn't hear the woman at the desk. At one point I looked around and said I can't believe so few people can make so much noise and she agreed. Once I started listening to the cursing and yelling I realized they were all drunk... they were outside too blocking access to the car and the doors. The bellmen seemed more interested in checking out the scantily clad women (in the rain no less) then ever talking to me. I went around and around the block to figure out where the closest public parking was ($36/night). I hope my stuff is safe - I have yet to go to the car. I'm sitting in the uncomfortable lobby drinking my $5 starbucks coffee writing this at 7AM after getting up at 5:30 and giving up on any possibility of sleep any more. Having little kids in Nashville is pointless. We checked in around 7PM and asked about the Honky Tonks that are about a block away - could we bring our kids there to eat? The woman transferred me to concierge who never picked up - well... the great customer service just keeps happening. I asked about walking through the adjoined convention center to leave the massive building closer to the honky tonks so we wouldn't have to walk in the rain - nope, she pointed to that same front door - you have to go out there. As we walked about 3 blocks, I noticed plenty of people walking in the convention center - we could have easily saved ourselves plenty of wetness by just not listening to them... We got to the first place we could find - Rippy's Ribs. I'll review them later but at 7:30 on a Saturday night, there are LOUD bands in every room and barely a table to be found. We found one right in front of the speaker - holy cow was it loud. No sense in talking - I think the waiter just reads lips - no way he heard us. The food was ok - service minimal - whatever, get me and my family the heck out of there! We walked back - snuck into the convention center using a not-closed-all-the-way-door and enjoyed a dry walk to our hotel. Frustrating. We got up to our floor - #12 - to find a party so loud we heard it from the elevators on the opposite end of the floor - room 1225 was blasting music with what sounded like 100 people in their room with the door propped open - I was close to opening it to see the party going on but we continued on 2 more rooms to our room. This was maybe 8:30 - we figured no one is sleeping so we'd watch TV... by 9 the kids were complaining and wanted to sleep. I brought a bag full of earplugs - boy did we need them! The Honky Tonks were SO LOUD no sane person could possibly sleep with that racket going on out there. The party across the call was so loud, we couldn't sleep - people walking up and down the hallway loudly all night. The couple next store was even loud. We never complained to the front desk - what's the point? They already proved to me they are a party hotel meant for party goers - not families. At 9:30, 10:30, 11:30 and 1AM, my 5-year-old got up absolutely crying - he just wanted to sleep and the earplugs wouldn't stay in his ears. Each time, I'd get up and take my own earplugs out and be amazed at the noise level from all around. Even at 5:30 this morning, there was still noise from our neighbors - not sure what they are doing - I realize the hotel can't control everything but wow. Apparently, the best way to stay here is to party hard and pass out so you can actually sleep. Two beers at the honky tonk ain't going to do it. My wife and I were planning a weekend stay in Nashville and we _were_ going to stay here - this was sort of a trial run - wow - I'm glad we know to AVOID this place at all costs. Oh, one note about cleanliness - our bed had hair on it as does the wall of the bathroom by the toilet - not sure when bigfoot stayed in our room but it is kind of gross - after all the problems, the cleanliness is the least of my concerns... I have always stayed at this hotel when traveling to Nashville - it's a great place to stay. But during my last trip I left something of value in my room. Hotel security was wonderful. I spoke to a man who took down all my information in a professional manner and told me they would look right away. Then Jeanette from hotel security returned my call and was wonderful. They found my item right away - didn't wait until the room was cleaned. Jeanette was responsive and worked with me to get my item ASAP. While one would expect this service - hotel security went above and beyond in helping me. Kudos to Jeanette and their team. thanks!!! Collapse

I'm a frequent "Nashie" but staying here was a first! Upon arrival our first question was "what do we do with the car while we check in?" There wasn't a spot to pull thru & leave the car, but there were about 6 spots to park directly in front of the doors which were all full. We drove around the block & came back just in time for someone to be pulling out! We were greeted by the valet manager who was extremely helpful. As we entered the building, the lobby was huge with very modern decor & the place smelled amazing! I noticed a heavy police presence & asked thinking maybe a celebrity was staying. No....it was the Vanderbilt football team! So we proceeded to the desk to see if we could check in early. No such luck. Due to the football team, we were told we couldn't check in until at least 5pm! They allowed us to claim check our luggage so we could walk around the city. Valet parking was high at $40/night with unlimited come & go, or park yourself in the structure across the street for $28/night (paying that price every time you entered the lot)! So we headed out for a walk to see where we wanted to go that evening & received a call about 5:05pm that our room was ready. Walking several blocks back, but still convenient to 2nd & Broadway, we barely had time to check-in, get our bags to the room, change & walk to our dinner reservations at 6pm. The rooms were awesome, clean & inviting!! Within 15 minutes of getting to the room, the Lead Housekeeper knocked on the door to assure the room was fine & everything in working order! Nice touch!!! The beds & pillows were to die for & didn't want to move once morning came. Wanted to bring them home with me! Their restaurant The Commerce Grille ok. They had a huge buffet with omelet station that were brought to your table when ready so you didn't have to stand & wait. The coffee carafe was filthy & we were left with the remainder of someone else's creamer. They did allow us a late checkout of 1pm & allowed us to claim check our luggage & stay in valet parking until 5pm! Lots of restaurants within walking distance as well as the Ryman Theater just across the street! I would certainly stay here again, but utilize their bridge bar instead of the restaurant just off the lobby! Collapse

(from my daughter) We stayed at the Renaissance Hotel and we loved it. We got an incredible view from the 23rd floor of the city and the pool, hot tub, and workout room were nice too! At the bridge walk, there would be people in the evening performing songs that they created. It was truly amazing to hear what people created and why. The day we had to leave this outstanding hotel, I forgot six movies and a dvd player. Four days later, after realizing it was missing, we called and Trevor found all of it, and made sure that nothing was missing, and got it sent to my house right away. Trevor was extremely helpful and we hope to visit again. Collapse
