Dated room and unpleasant experience

As a business traveler, I value cleanliness over anything. Rooms are dated and there is no thermostat in room to control temperature. AC is loud and located in the corner of the room. The most upsetting thing is to find bugs in the room. It was crawling all over the carpet and made it to the wall. By the time housekeeping sent someone up, the bug already crawled out of the room through the door crack in the bottom. (Not sure if it is better or worse because now I have no idea what can come in from outside). The staff just shrugged it off and said "you are fine. Just a millipede. They like water." It was 11pm and I was getting ready so I didn't request a room change. But the staff's attitude didn't help at all. 2nd morning - the housekeeping lady knocked on my door by accident early in the morning. Last day - When my colleague and I wanted to retrieve our luggages from the door bell desk (for which no one attended to), we waited for 10 mins and nobody came to help. The check in staff just kept assisting other guests who came to check in and didn't acknowledge us. I had to line up in the same line at check in and asked for assistance. At that point he still didn't offer to help us immediately but decided to call another staff to help. The only positive thing I remember from this hotel is the staff at the executive lounge who always greet the guests and have great attitude. I will avoid this hotel at all costs and forgo the Marriott points if I return to Cleveland. Collapse

The building of this hotel is a must see, even if you are not staying there. We stayed in July 2017 for a night while passing by. From the first hello to the last goodbye we absolutely have had a wonderful experience. The parking was $27 if you park yourself in the garage right next to the hotel or $32 if you use a valet service. Which also included in and out privileges. Our room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was white with black veined marble, well lit and clean. When we asked for an extra pillow they immediately brought it up and the gentleman who brought our pillow even asked if we needed anything else. Our room also had a fireplace to add it to it's charm. The pool needs a bit of paint over probably as it was peeling in some spots, but the location and the ambience of the pool were fantastic. As we were having our breakfast the two wonderful ladies who were attending to us gave many great suggestions about what to see in the short time we had in Cleveland. The check out process was easy and pleasant. We would love to come back and stay probably little longer to both enjoy the hotel and Cleveland. Collapse

Gorgeous hotel with nostalgic charm. Our deluxe room on 9th floor was spacious and had a wonderful view of Public Square. Bedding was very comfortable. Mini fridge and microwave in room. Getting in was a bit tricky as you should not check-in from the Public Square side but around the corner. After that all was great. Highly recommend valet parking if you drive here. Employees are friendly and helpful. There is a "Navigator" to help you with directions, special requests and information you may need during your stay. You can walk from the hotel to Tower City and Jack Casino without ever stepping outside too which was a plus since it rained some of the time we were there. Close to attractions, shopping, dining, and transportation. Ornate lobby with sitting areas for relaxing or visiting. Indoor Pool and weight room on site. Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Plain Dealer available daily for guests. Free Wi-Fi for Marriott Rewards members for up to 3 devices. Sans Souci Restaurant on site does breakfast 6:30-11:30 AM but not dinner. There is a bar in the lobby and room service is available. Club Rooms have extra features and extras but we did a deluxe room and were very happy with it. Not as pricey as you might think when you compare with other area hotels. We utilized AAA rates for substantial savings. Location is everything and this one puts you in the center of the city with lots to see and do and plenty of places to eat. We were very pleased and hope to return here on a future trip. Thank you for our enjoyable stay. Collapse

The Marriott Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland is housed in an older, classic building. It is right in the middle of what appears to be, the center of the action for Cleveland. I was really torn about this review. In some ways I'd like to give them a higher rating and in others a lower rating. I really love interesting or classical architecture and the Renaissance certainly had that part covered. It had several impressive features in the main floors (entry, lobby, etc.). The room was very spacious and the beds were very comfortable. We were up on the 14th floor with a view of the city and one of the Great Lakes (Erie) in the background. The hotel was directly across from the public square park. It was only a few blocks from the Quicken Loan Arena and the baseball stadium. In addition, it was walking distance to a wide variety of restaurants (from fast food through gourmet options) and the city's Jack Casino. The hotel staff were very nice. Valet parking was available and somewhat reasonably priced ($32). Less expensive self parking was readily available next door. There were downsides though. The older building showed signs of wear and tear. The floor we were on (I assume they are all similar) needs a renovation. There was that typical musty smell that you get with old carpet and walls. Good news is that it did not extend to our hotel room itself. Another concern is a general one for the area and not specific to the Renaissance. This area of Cleveland appears to be trying to reinvent itself and upgrade the area. In the same area you will find new properties, renovated properties, classic buildings as well as, properties that are shuttered or in serious need of repair. I get the sense that they may have an issue with safety and security in the area at times, given several factors and the general vibe of the area around the hotel. Collapse
