Unfortunately this was my first time at this hotel and I do not anticipate going back unless it's for work. This trip was a long weekend get-a-away with my girlfriend. I am a Gold Eilte and travel fairly often for work/pleasure, along with having a Marriott card. We visited Renaissance Waterfront from 8/17-8/20. Okay, so we got in around 9pm on Thursday the 17th, I did drive and was expecting to use the valet service. My girlfriend and I get out of the car and there are a couple gentlemen standing there, part of the valet service, nobody comes to greet. So I start to get our stuff out. Still nothing. So I walk up and ask if I can have my car checked in, looks like they must have been watching something on their phones and were distracted. It's not a huge deal, but normally when I visit staff is extremely attentive. I go to check in and again, nobody seemed to be pleasant or willing/wanting to assist. So I just walked up to the counter and gave my name. Usually I am offered an upgrade if available, but this was not the case this time around. No big deal, but would have been nice. We get to the room and I called the front desk 4x and the room service button on the phone 1x. No answer...we were hoping to order food and a couple drinks since we were starving. I made my way downstairs to the restaurant and just ordered to go. Next morning I asked to have my room serviced as we were leaving for the day, whoever at the front desk seemed to be bothered and just transferred me. The next person I spoke with (assuming this was housekeeping) very pleasant...along with the housekeeper, she was great. Also, I will say the concierge personnel...fantastic! Amenities...I read somewhere that the hotel had a steam room, but they do not. A sauna, it did not seem to be working the morning I used it, sitting around 97F, I did see it working two days later...Maybe I got there at a bad time and the saunajust takes longer to warm. They do advertise a spa on the Marriott App...it's not a spa. They have side rooms, but it's not a spa. That was disappointing. The hotel was very busy and I am assuming this is why the staff may not have been so attentive. Things just did not seem to click on this stay. Very off-putting. Basically, the moral of the story is that the service just seemed to be lacking. The overall hotel was nice, but I have stayed at other Renaissance hotels which I would highly recommend. You stay at lower-end Marriott hotels like a Springhill or Courtyard and staff is on point. I did not expect this here. Usually my girlfriend doesn't care, but she also observed the lack of enthusiasm/caring from many of the staff members. As we checked out, no "goodbye" or "how was your stay?" Which is unfortunate because they have such great reviews. Maybe I caught it on a bad weekend. Next time I will consider the Envoy, Residence Inn or stay at one of the Full-Service Marriott's downtown Boston. We did go to Maine for a quick stay on 8/20 - 8/21 and stayed at Marriott's Press Hotel, it was night and day between the service and attentiveness. Collapse

Both my husband and I are Platinum members with Marriott and we were upgraded on a points stay to a king suite, but with a parking lot view. The Concierge lounge was one of the worst we have ever encountered .... during our 5 night stay, we visited the lounge 2 evenings and found it to be a disappointing experience. And we were shocked at the families - don't the rules about one guest per member apply here? Maybe that is why the lounge offers 5 snack sized bags of potato chips???? Anyway, the hotel is situated within walking distance to so many good restaurants - Legal Harborside, Del Frisco's, Morton's, Ocean Prime, etc. We love Boston and will definitely be back, but we won't be staying here again. All staff were extremely friendly, very helpful and this place has class! From assisting book sight seeing, helping with internet connection, changing out keys they provided great service. All with a smile and efficiency. Great they have a Starbucks in the lobby area. Trolley bus stops just across the road very convenient. Caught water taxi from airport with just a very short walk to hotel. So convenient and much better than taxi or train. Collapse

We were in town for a volleyball tournament on the coldest weekend of the year. The hotel does not offer shuttle service but is only a short walk from South Station. Our room was exceptionally clean and the hotel brought us additional shampoo and conditioner when requested. We ate in the restaurant twice and it was excellent. It is Boston, so I thought it was a bit overpriced. One of the elevators was down during our stay, but it didn't affect our access to our room as it was quickly repaired. I am planning on staying at this hotel again when I return to Boston. Collapse

I had a pleasant stay at the Renaissance. Positives: The rooms were about average sized, and very clean. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the sites to see. Great location for exploring. Concierge service was impeccable. The views were pretty amazing. Negatives: The rooms need some upgrading. It was far from quiet, so kinda difficult to sleep. Housekeeping staff did a bare minimum job of cleaning the room while I was gone. All in all, it wasn't too bad of a stay. If I return to Boston, this would be probably third on my list of hotels to stay at again. Collapse
