This hotel is one of my favorites in Spain. The FIRST thing you will notice is how professional the staff is and how clean the grounds are. I was traveling with a party and the staff immediately accommodated us using all available check-in areas. This was really nice because they got us all processed in minimum time after a long flight. Our staff member was Marc Lana and he is the ultimate Ambassador and face of the Renaissance hotel chain! His professionalism and customer service skills are outstanding! When I travel, the FIRST think I will look at before I write a review is the cleanliness of the hotel and the staff attitudes. Marc did not disappoint and he should be recognized by his supervisors for a job well done. Not only was he efficient when we checked in, but he had local area suggestions as well as hotel options for us to consider. I was very impressed at how he engaged us in conversation while checking us in. Marc was genuinely concerned that we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay! It was mentioned by several members in my group how professional and nice he was and how refreshing it was to be greeted in such a nice manner. The hotel is immaculate! I never once saw any of the housekeeping staff, yet this place was sparkling! From the lobby, to the elevators, to the hallways, and the rooms...all SPECTACULAR!!! Well done and kudos to the housekeeping staff! All items were well stocked in the room and everything was perfectly placed. The room has many amenities, but you may have to look for the closet. It is cleverly hidden behind the half mirrors next to the bed. There are also outlets next to the bed, so you can use and charge your devices at the same time while in bed. The bed itself is very fluffy and comfortable. The room is comfortable and the air conditioner kept the temperature steady at the set temperature. The bathrooms are very nice and it even includes a heating device mounted on the wall next to the towel holder. The shower is spacious and it drains well along with excellent water pressure. The WiFi in the room is also very strong! The security is excellent at the hotel and there always seems to be someone near the door and in the foyer "watching". That made it very nice to feel safe, since the hotel is located on a busy corner. There is a nice dining area with a great selection. Once again, the staff there is wonderful and accommodating. There is also a grocery store right across the street if you need anything extra. Overall, you won't be disappointed if you select this hotel. I highly recommend the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel to all of my friends and readers. If you need anything at all, be sure to ask Marc and the rest of the staff! I've always said that if you have a happy staff, it is because management is treating them well and doing things right! Well done managers! Collapse

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights during a conference. I would say is a good hotel. Rooms: Are nice and clean, but a little bit outdated. And the cleaning should be a little bit better for a five stars hotel. Location: Is great near the main street of Barcelona. The hotel has also a rooftop bar which is very nice and you can also have a dinner or take a drink there, which is not bad. Breakfast; very abundant and good. Staff: Very friendly and professional. I would recommend this hotel Collapse

The room we had been assigned, 1008, was tiny, adjacent to the elevator, looked old and tired and smelled of mold. We informed the front desk that it was unacceptable and were shown a second room, which also smelled of mold. The third room was better, but also very small. I asked if we could get a bigger room for an additional charge and was told that everything was sold out for that night, but that higher category rooms were available the following day and that we could move for the remainder of our stay. The following day, we were informed that there was only one room available in a higher category. It was either that or stay in the third room we were given, which was also very small, but at least didn't smell bad. Since we were staying for 5 nights, we really wanted the larger room and king bed, so we accepted to move. The room we were then given was on the 7th floor, number 719. It was indeed bigger with a king bed. It also looked worn and tired, floor scratched and stains on the walls, and smelled somewhat strange, most likely air freshener and/or cleaning supplies, masking what would turn out to be a very unpleasant surprise. During the following days we were there, we noticed a mildew smell in this room also that kept getting stronger. On our third night, we saw water on the floor upon returning from exploring the city. We thought maybe it was still wet from having been cleaned. On our last night, we noticed a huge water stain on the ceiling and water running down the wall and dripping from the ceiling. Upon a closer look, we noticed mold growing in the floor board. And the room now reeked of mildew. We called the front desk and the manager came and took a look. She assigned us a different room for our last night, just to sleep in. That room was a suite of sorts. We were happy we didn't have to sleep in our old room. My partner had been coughing a lot and we now attributed that to the mildew in room 719. Maintenance came the following morning as we were checking out. We received 20% off our last night stay as compensation and 20,000 points. The entire hotel appears to have a problem with mold. We smelled it in the rooms and the hallways. In addition, some hallways also smell of sewage. I consider mold a serious health hazard and am truly shocked by the state of this property. I am not sure how maintenance can miss these issues. I feel as though our health has been compromised by our stay. This property is in serious need of a complete overhaul. The room we were in should never have been assigned. I sent a letter to Marriott complaining. I followed up on my letter to Marriott via a phone call. I was told that the matter had been escalated above the actual hotel to Marriott's Consumer Affairs Department, and given the name of the person handling it. I left a detailed voicemail for her that same day together with my contact information. As I didn't hear back for over a week, I phoned back and was able to speak with her. In a rather curt fashion, she informed me that the hotel's efforts of discounting our last night's stay by 20 per cent and the offer of 20,000 rewards point for my account, had been deemed sufficient, and there was nothing further she would do for me. I was speechless and told her that much. When I asked her why she didn't have the courtesy to contact me, she simply stated that she had closed the matter after having felt satisfied by the hotel's gesture. That was it. I am a loyal Marriott client. I might not be the most frequent guest, but I do seek out Marriott properties for my travels. This was a rather lousy experience. Collapse
