Originally booked this hotel through a third party booking site for a good price considering the star rating of the hotel and its position within Amsterdam city center. We stayed Thursday - Sunday and managed to check in at 12.30pm. I stayed in the REN Room for a little extra charge however the free minibar and WIFI was worth it. Staff were great and cleanliness of the hotel was outstanding. I would recommend this hotel to a friend 100%. Now for the bad points... Asked the room service staff to come back in ten minutes so that we could get out before-hand however when we returned later in the day we saw the room hadn't been cleaned at all. I did inquire to see if my room could be cleaned but was instead just asked if i needed towels/minibar.. Little disappointing. Not sure why the rooms get "security checked" without telling you this is part of the regular routine. As we walked out the room and down the corridor slightly we saw two members of staff just gain entry to our room for no reason? My Credit Card was billed £800 whilst i was staying at the hotel and i hadn't even been informed of this until check-out when they realized they weren't meant to of charged me, i was told its going to be refunded however its just the fact i wasn't told it was getting charged in the first place..? Finally just the television was a little "old" for such a modern and high class hotel, with cheap budget hotels in Amsterdam offering Smart TV's i was disappointed with the selection we had. HOWEVER.. even though there's a couple of bad points the pro's defiantly outweighed the cons and we very much enjoyed out stay at The Renaissance Amsterdam. Thanks, Sean Collapse

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of our Viking cruise down the Rhine. Tremendous service from the start with help to take our luggage on an early morning arrival. When we came back around noon we were pleasantly surprised to find that our room was ready. They obviously cater to Viking Cruise people. The room was smallish as expected but very nice. The breakfast buffet was stupendous with everything imaginable although it was packed the first morning (Friday). Excellent location just a block away from a pedestrian street that went to the Central Train Station in one direction (several blocks) and the Dam Square in the other. Collapse

Spent five nights in this hotel after a Viking River Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam. It is located in a quiet neighborhood a couple of blocks from the heart of the action. The staff were great. The concierge set us up with the info we needed to take trains to The Hauge and Delft on our own self guided adventure. 3 to 4 days was more than enough to see all in Amsterdam. Collapse

You never know what you're going to get with an Amsterdam hotel, but this is definitely the best one I've ever stayed in. The rooms are spacious and it's in a great location (cheese shops and drug parlors everywhere). The staff is lovely. I had reward points for frequenting Marriotts, which resulted in some pretty nice perks (free drinks from the lounge and access to nice snacks whenever I pleased.) Breakfasts are good, but in a different location on weekends. I highly recommend this place! Collapse

Booked as part of a Viking River Cruise for a couple of days in Amsterdam before embarkation. Very centrally located, so ideal for a whistle-stop tour of the city. Quite a small room, especially for a so-called 5 star hotel, though there were two chairs, which was something. So often, one of us has to sit/lie on the bed. The carpet was quite grubby, which was poor for a hotel of this supposed standard! No bathrobes or slippers, either. Nice toiletries in the bathroom, replenished daily, which was a plus point. On checking in, we were forced to leave a mandatory deposit of 75 euros on a credit card, despite having paid for the room in advance as part of the Viking package! We had dinner with friends in the hotel restaurant on the first night, and that was interesting! The waitress spent about 10 minutes trying to explain the “Italian” menu to us, insisting that the menu was intended for sharing – we were supposed to order lots of dishes and then share them, and if we wanted more, they would keep it coming! We ended up sharing a couple of starters, but each eating our own selections thereafter. It seemed simpler. Food was quite good, though not spectacular, but it was the company – friends we hadn't seen for a long time – that more than made up for this. Breakfast was rather frenetic – it was very crowded and not easy to find a table where four of us could eat together. Eventually, we got a table, and enjoyed a wide variety of dishes, all the usual stuff, scrambled eggs, sausages, good American-style crispy bacon, hash browns, tomatoes, baked beans, etc., though none of it very hot. A good variety of “cold cuts”, cooked meats and salamis, smoked salmon and smoked mackerel, croissants, different cakes and breads, toast, etc. Collapse
