My husband and I booked this hotel due to the location, with rooms offering either a sea or park view. We were delighted to discover that we had a sea view but this was sorely let down by the fact that the restaurant bins and generator/fan are also on this side. This meant that instead of opening the window to hear the sea, the generator was all that could be heard along with staff chatting at various points throughout the night. Unfortunately, a block of apartments are being built next door which also meant that builders were on site early in the mornings and the machinery could clearly be heard even with the windows closed. We stayed for three nights, arriving on the Thursday so we assumed that the builders would not work on the weekend. However, the builders were on site on the Saturday morning as well which is something to be aware of. Our room was also located next to the lift, which wasn't a problem on the Thursday night as the hotel was quiet. However, on the Friday and Saturday night the hotel was very busy which resulted in the noise of the lift being pretty constant from 8pm to after midnight and again from 7am in the morning. The noise of the lift was extremely irritating and did prevent sleep. I personally wanted to change rooms after the Friday evening, however with one night to go we agreed between ourselves to grin and bear it. The room itself was ok. A basic premier inn style room with the bathroom and hanging space as you go in, opening to the rest of the room. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. (The nets were beginning to grow a small amount of mould from the condensation and there was a small area of mould developing in the grout in the bathroom but this was minor). The room itself appeared clean. Next, the other design flaw of the hotel-the restaurant and this is a real shame because the food was outstanding. The design of the hotel downstairs is open plan which is sectioned off into comfortable sofas (bar) as you enter the hotel and the restaurant at the back. The reception is located opposite the comfortable seating. We had booked dinner for early Friday night and when seated, the bar and restaurant was fairly quiet. However, during the starter a large group arrived in the bar area which meant that the noise in the restaurant became unbearable. Being open plan and having tiled floors meant that the noise from this group overtook the area, ruining the quiet meal we were hoping to have. I cannot fault the food, it really was delicious, however, being unable to hear each other meant that we swiftly departed after the main, which ruined the experience for us as we would have loved to have stayed to eat dessert and have coffee. We returned to our room rather deflated and decided that as the group were staying we would try breakfast in the room to avoid the crowd the next day. Unfortunately this didn't start well either. As instructed by the card in our room we filled in our breakfast selection and hung it on the door handle outside, selecting our time slot. Unfortunately, our time slot came and went with no breakfast. A check outside confirmed our order was still there. A call to reception remedied this and the staff were extremely apologetic claiming the night porter had been kept busy due to the amount of people in the hotel the night before. Which was fine but disappointing all the same. Again, the food was outstanding. The final night we chose to eat elsewhere but opted for the room service breakfast again. This time all went fine apart from having to collect the menu card from reception as the one in the room had not been replaced. Nothing major but slightly annoying. I absolutely cannot fault the staff for their friendliness, they were lovely. However, we were put off talking to them at reception due to a large crowd of people being in the area of the bar. The hotel seems great for groups but for a quiet couple we felt quite let down by the facilities. Collapse

I have taken to put on this review due to the fact that I have sent 3 complaints to the hotel regarding our awful disappointing Christmas day dinner we were a party of 11 people most of which returned after last years xmas day . What a contrast of standard the food and service was this year Spending £605 for the dinner without the bar bill ok so starter was ok it was after that it went down hill main course was served to soon , which would not have been to bad if it was enjoyable The turkey must have been coming to the end as we did not get much on our plate The gravy was black and very salty The roast potatoes were soggy as if they had been cooked and left There was no mash potatoes The small bowls of veg had only Two sprouts in on our end of table, and after my wife asking for more were given another (soggy) bowl of veg.....again only two sprouts !!!! I did not even get one ! last years veg was more than plentiful and was served with separate roast potatoes as well as mash in between was a sorbet again although not meant to be a lot was again looking like it was running out fast and only a tiny scraping in the glass now the service as this was going on, courses served to fast, plates rudely asked "give us your plate" ! The pudding was ok The tea and coffee was served......oh and no sugar bowls .. had to go and get them ourself NOW Change of shift from the 3 waitress to one OH HANG ON....... WE Had not received everything we had payed for? YES they had forgot to serve the cheeseboard selection ! we pointed this out to the waitress who did say sorry we were then given a plate of cheese with two individual portions of butter(for 11 persons) and a few crackers no chutneys etc which were again served last year also last year as a nice touch there were complimentary chocolates , again none this year Now just to clear one thing about the veg we buy from the same supplier, local farmer bri radcliffe whos veg is always fresh, so I can only presume that it was down to the cooking of it and maybe a very short supply of sprouts !!!!! I did not get chance to complain sooner as we went away and there was no manager when we left only the one waitress , but having sent 3 messages and not receiving one reply which itself is awful customer service decided that I should write our review about the terrible meal to conclude our disappointing Christmas lunch after us spending and also paying in advance at the start of December feel that for the price paid the meal was completely unacceptable and a total opposite of last years meal needless to say we will not be returning xmas 2017 Collapse

We went for an evening celebration meal during mid December. The setting was bright, modern and tasteful. The staff serving were friendly & helpful. Our disappointment was that though a Christmas menu seemed to be advertised by the literature, that it was a regular hotel menu - which felt more like a good pub lunch menu than a premium hotel menu. The food was fair, but felt overpriced for what you got. Fine to go once, but I wouldn't be tempted back in a hurry. Collapse

First time eating there and what more could you ask for for 19 persons, lovely staff, perfect food in large portions, excellent. The dining room is a combined bar/reception area but you would not know as it is warm and draught free.
