Our first impression we got while checking in was a rude one. We had booked online and everything had already been paid for except city tax which we had confirmed after online booking directly with hotel and was told payment upon departure. Instead at the hotel we were told it had to paid upon arrival, after 15 min of disagreeing with front desk clerk Vincent and showing him the online reservation which indicated city tax was due upon departure! This rude employee who might have been his boss ( Nuria) appeared from around the corner and very rudely told us that the payment was upon arrival it always has been. We told that not only does our reservation confirm that but we also called hotel upon reservation. She was very rude and loud and adamant that we had to pay upfront and told us how small the amount was and how much work they would have to do if it was on departure (which I still don’t understand why it would be). She had no customer service skills and certainly did not belong in the hospitality industry and would be much better suited in the construction field! The hotel itself is old and needs updating - the bedrooms are clean but very basic - uncomfortable mattress. The breakfast was decent - unfortunately the room was very cold to the point you needed a coat - a hot and cold bfast including eggs, bacon, sausages, beans and toast along with some cold cuts and cheese, fruit, cereal and freshly squeezed orange juice. This is a difficult one to review, the Hotel is clean & in a good location on Las Ramblas but.... It’s located next door to Dome Nightclub & a Flamenco Club. The decor is dated but could be embraced & dressed to make it look used, instead it’s just been left & looks uninviting. Not everyone wants an ultra modern look. So much could be done for very little effort. We changed rooms after our first night on the fifth floor by the lift in an internal room, you can hear the running of the lifts, guests coming in for the night & water gushing through the pipes like there’s a waterfall in your room. If I was on a nightclubbing type holiday, this would be ok because we would have been coming in at 3/4am like others but we came this time for all the architecture, history & culture. The room was clean & tidy but you can hear every noise! Earplugs are needed. I read reviews on here & saw others upgrade for 10€ a night. I went & asked if we could have a quieter room & was told the hotel was full, well the rooms at our price and was full. There were 10€ or 30€ a night upgrade. No offer to give an upgraded room to ensure we got some sleep, we’d clearly have to pay :( Only prepared to pay 10€ we were offered a room on the 9th floor to the rear. It will never be noise free being in the centre of a busy area but the loud noises stopped. You can here sirens, dogs barking & faint music but all far better than the internal rooms, we actually got some sleep & enjoyed the last two nights of our stay. Breakfast, what can I say, very basic & again a sad & unloved restaurant area with staff that seem like they don’t want to be there. Only good thing was the freshly squeezed orange juice. This hotel should give a room only price. With a wealth of fresh bakeries surrounding the area, it’s s shame that pastries & cakes are in plastic wrap to keep them from drying up so they can be put out day after day. Just give this a miss & go out in the area & buy a lovely fresh coffee & a pastry for 3€ It seems like nobody cares here, they keep it clean & maintained to a standard & that’s it. Didn’t seem to care if you enjoyed your experience staying in the hotel or in Barcelona. My husband booked this as a gift, I don’t think I’d re-book this hotel when there are so many other lovely places to stay, especially with AIRBNB & others. Don’t just book this because it’s easy & on Las Ramblas, there are so many other places in the surrounding areas, it’s so easy to get around Collapse

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. It is right in the heart of La Ramblas. However, the accommodation is old and run down and they use so much cleaning solutions in the bathroom you can't even stand in there you just want to throw up. We booked a double room through our travel agent. We have been travelling a very long time and we are pretty sure a double is a double bed and a twin is two singles. Our booking document confirmed the double and when we checked in we were given a twin. We went to ask to switch rooms to which we were told there are none available. The manager came down and she hurled abuse at us saying 2 beds is all you require and if we want one bed we can pay to upgrade. She was absolutely horrible. She was adamant that if it is a double she only has to provide 2 beds regardless of the booking site or wherever it is sold. There is no customer service skills whatsoever in this hotel and I have never been treated so rudely in all my life. We will never return to this hotel and we would never recommend it to anyone. Visited as a couple in the end of November, stayed 3 nights. We had mixed feelings about the location, it is obviously good that its on Las Ramblas very central , short walk to plaza Catalunya and the sea in the other side and in between two metro stations. But, theres a casino on the left and a night club on the right . we got a room facing the street couldn't switch and it was very noisy at night as well as the walls are thin. The room was ok, spacious enough, bed was comfortable , air conditioner that kept us warm during the night. The bathroom ceiling was kinda out of place and noisy. The breakfast was basic but ok, loved the freshly squeezed orange juice! The staff were nice and friendly. For those of you who have flights in the evening, theres a storage room available with no cost. Enjoy ! Collapse
