We’ve recently returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel and I would personally struggle to find things to complain about. It’s in a great location and is surrounded by restaurants, shops, and public transport links and is only a few mins walk away from the harbor. There is a lovely square just over the road from the hotel where you will find some really nice restaurants that are reasonable priced in comparison to those on the ramblas (avoid eating on there if possible, it’s a trap for tourists and you will end up paying 20 euros for a beer and a water) The hotel itself is definitely not modern but I wouldn’t say it’s dated. It’s old and traditional and is exactly what you’d expect to find staying so close to the gothic quarter. A really modern hotel wouldn’t fit in with the surroundings and the hotel is spotless which is more important than the décor. We checked in quite late in the evening and were met with friendly reception staff who were very welcoming and keen to help where they could. We were also provided with a room key each which is a bonus! We had a double room and it was huge. We had 2 single beds pushed together, another single bed and a sofa bed so, as you can imagine, it was very spacious! The bathroom is a generous size as well with clean towels provided daily. The rooms were cleaned daily and there was air con available although the room stayed cool without. We didn’t have a great view from our window but there are so many other sights to see in Barcelona so it didn’t bother us. I read lots of reviews about the noise before travelling so packed some ear plugs for our stay but they weren’t necessary. There was a bit of background noise on the first night but it wasn’t too disruptive. Our room was at the back of the hotel so it was mostly quiet during the evenings, however, I can imagine it to be noisy until the early hours if you have a room overlooking the ramblas. Personally the noise didn’t affect us so I wouldn’t let that put anyone off staying here. Breakfast was standard hot and cold food with pastries, fruit and the usual tea, coffee and juice available. We didn’t eat in the restaurant whilst we were there but it looked busy every night. The staff are a real credit to the hotel. We met several different people on reception and they were all more than happy to direct you somewhere or recommend you somewhere to eat or drink. They were extremely pleasant and contributed towards a great stay. Excellent, friendly service – what more can you want! Overall we had a faultless and pleasant stay at this hotel with 0 complaints and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Don’t let the negative reviews put you off! Collapse

We spent 2 nights here and were very pleased. For a good value (this is not a 4 or 5 star hotel), you get a good clean room in a great location. It is right on Las Ramblas. Our room was average size room(not big but not small and we been in much smaller). Free wifi (password) was sporadic (first night fine. Second night kept losing signal). You have a small refrigerator with no mini bar, safe (2.50 E charge per night), a very nice size terrace with table and chairs (can't say if all rooms have terraces but floor 8 & 9 some have terraces), a nice sized wardrobe, hair dryer. There are several mercados close by on side streets. We were on 8th floor and the noise from Las Ramblas did not bother us but we had a connecting door to the next room and could hear talking through the door. We were fortunate that our neighbors went to bed before us or went out and did not come back until after we were asleep. Some parts of the hotel are tired but you get what you pay for. The breakfast was an average buffet breakfast (they will give you a takeaway breakfast if you leave hotel before 8 AM when breakfast starts (need to ask the morning before because breakfast buffet is not served by the hotel). The hotel does have bar & restaurant on main floor plus outdoor seating in middle of median of Las Ramblas. Don't expect a 4 star hotel this is a 2-3 star. The AC worked just fine and was not noisy at all. The towels are medium quality (one day was better than the other). The mattress was thin and firm, Only one pillow per person and they were small. It was not the greatest shower but it had a shower curtain instead of the goofy half glass door (hooray). They have 2 small elevators but we had no problems with waits (I thought we would). The bottom line is we would stay here again in a minute because of location (you can walk in 20 minutes to 75% of the places you come to Barcelona to see), price, and we are not there to live in the room.
